Chelsea ace Loftus-Cheek posts injury update with midfielder nearing comeback after missing West Ham defeat

CHELSEA ace Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed he is on the comeback trail following his horrific injury.

The England midfielder has been on the sidelines since May after rupturing his Achilles in a pre-Europa League final friendly against New England Revolution.

Last month the 23-year-old revealed he was “close” to making an eagerly-anticipated return to the side.

And it appears he has further stepped up his rehabilitation after being put through a series of drills at the club’s training complex.

It includes standing on a balance board that stretches the muscles around the ankle including the Achilles.

Loftus-Cheek is also tasked to participate in some simple stretches alone in the gym that further proves the muscle is almost back to full strength.

He is also then asked to stand on one foot and use the other to pass the ball back to the trainer.

The Chelsea midfielder has come a long way after revealing he needed to learn to walk again following the injury.

Last month he said: “I’ve actually had a few setbacks that have put me behind which has been quite frustrating to be honest.

“I’ve had to learn to walk again and I’ve only just got pain free but for sure I’m going to come back stronger, sharper and do whatever I can to be in better shape.”

Loftus-Cheek still hasn’t made an appearance under boss Frank Lampard since his appointment in the summer.

He could play for the youth side this month with the aim of breaking into the first team in the New Year.

But he faces stiff competition following the emergence of Mason Mount in midfield.
