Cardiff City name ex-Milwall boss Neil Harris as new manager to replace Neil Warnock

CARDIFF CITY have appointed former Millwall boss Neil Harris as their new manager.

Harris, 42, has signed until the summer of 2022 and replaced 70-year-old Neil Warnock, who left last week after three years in charge.

Ex-Lions chief Harris – who beat Lee Bowyer to the job – will be joined by former Millwall assistant David Livermore while coaches James Rowberry and Andy Dibble will remain at the club.

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan said: “I am pleased to appoint Neil as first-team manager of the club.

“I have full confidence in Neil due to his principles on and off the pitch and enthusiasm to succeed. I am glad to offer him this opportunity and look forward to seeing what he is capable of achieving with Cardiff City.”

Chairman Mehmet Dalman added: “Neil is a passionate manager who has all of the right attributes to take the helm at Cardiff City.

“I know he’s eager to get to work and we look forward to seeing him strive to get the best out of our tight-knit and talented group of players.”

Harris resigned as Millwall manager last month.

He will take charge of his first Bluebirds game on November 23 when Cardiff – who sit 14th in the Championship – travel to Charlton.

Harris, who made a full recovery after being diagnosed with testicular cancer aged 23 in 2001, scored 138 goals over two spells with Millwall as a player.

He took over as caretaker manager at The Den in 2015 and guided them back to the second tier in 2017.

The Englishman briefly played on loan for Cardiff in December 2004.

He stepped down as Lions boss after a seven-match winless streak left Millwall five points above the relegation zone.

Warnock has since been linked to Hearts, where he could team up with former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson.
