Ashley Cole tells old club Arsenal to go all out to get Carlo Ancelotti as new boss

ASHLEY COLE has told Arsenal Carlo Ancelotti is the ideal man to bring the club back together and return the club to the top stage.

Ancelotti is one of the managers on the Gunners’ shortlist as they search for a successor to Unai Emery.

And ex-Arsenal star Cole is convinced the Italian is the ideal man to come in at the Emirates having worked under him when he guided Chelsea to a Premier League and FA Cup double.

Cole said: ““When he talked, everyone listened. Now it would be great if he went to Arsenal.

“Carlo would bring togetherness, in terms of being a friend and someone who is not always serious.

‘NEED TO HAVE A LAUGH’

“You have to go out on a training pitch ad have a laugh, to enjoy what you are doing and he brought that in training sessions with his coaching staff.

“But when you went to games he gave you that love, that push and the understanding of what it means to win games.

“He has won so much in his career with Milan as a player and as a coach.”

Ancelotti’s lawyer was in London meeting the Gunners yesterday, though they face a battle with Everton to land the 60-year-old who have also opened talks with him.

Cole is convinced the Gunners are not far from being a club able to compete, and Ancelotti is the man to make the difference.

He added: “Maybe the defence needs to defend, but they have the quality in terms of attacking threat.

“If they just address the defence and add a bit more structure and philosophy in terms of how to play with the ball and without the ball, Carlo would definitely do a great job there.

“I don’t think Arsenal is a step down for anyone. It is still a big club, they’ve not won a lot in past seasons but they’ve got a starting eleven that is definitely good enough.”
