LEWIS HAMILTON’S vegan diet has fuelled Sam Bird to glory in Formula E’s season opener.
Londoner Bird put his win in Saudi Arabia down to a summer transformation – which saw him go vegan and lose six kilos.

Hamilton, 34, as made his passion for going vegan public and Bird has taken note and gone on to reap the rewards in the opening race.
Bird said: “I wanted to push myself, I set myself a target – I entered myself into a half marathon, I’ve enjoyed the process and the application.
“My wife has made me go vegan, I can’t pretend that I am fully doing it – but I can definitely feel a difference in myself.
“I have more energy, I’m lighter on my feet and I’ve got a spring in my step.
“I have lost six kilos – myself, Jean-Eric Vergne and my wife really believe in it.
“The best racing driver probably of all time is an avid vegan.
“There’s something in it, there really is.”

The Virgin driver fought from fifth to win the Diriyah ePrix – becoming the only driver to win a race in all six FE campaigns.
Bird battled through the field leaving Mercedes, Porsche and BMW in his wake.
The 32-year-old’s victory comes on the fifth anniversary of his and Virgin’s maiden FE race win in Malaysia.
