Lotterer was Jean-Eric Vergne’s teammate when the latter won two back-to-back titles with Techeetah.

But the German hopes he can build his own legacy with Porsche.

Lotterer said: “You can definitely shape things around you and around your driving style but its not like you have a thousand options.

“There’s one way how the car works well and I have got a pretty good picture, thanks to my last year at Techeetah.

“It’s been a good reference obviously with the results we had and this is something I try to chase constantly.

“It’s something Vergne and me were on the same page and it makes sense to push the team to what feels natural to me and hopefully we will get it sorted step by step.”

Lotterer is aware Porsche will be up against it in their debut season before they will be fighting at the front of the grid.

But it’s the 37-year-old’s dream to win a championship with the German outfit, as they compete against Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

He added: “It’s my dream, that’s the plan and hopefully that will unfold.

“For sure it is going to be a difficult beginning. As teams have learned a lot about Formula E, all the little tricks as it is a different animal to all the other race categories.

“You can’t come with revolutionary technology, but Porsche as an engineering probably has the best technology out there.”

He added: “At the beginning we don’t know what to expect and how we will be.

“I am very optimistic, I want to be on the podium in Riyadh, that would be fantastic, and I am doing everything for it. And we’re here to win.

“Of course we may need to be patient at the beginning, but we don’t really know.”
