RB LEIPZIG defender Ibrahima Konate has allegedly passed medical checks ahead of a £34million transfer to Liverpool.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the 21-year-old Frenchman was on the verge of a summer move to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is desperate to reinforce his backline after his team’s title defence was scuppered by injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
The Reds are now believed to be prioritising a new centre-half as their No.1 piece of transfer business.
And according to RMC Sport, Konate has already passed some of the medical examinations required ahead of a switch to Merseyside.
The star has impressed with the Bundesliga outfit this term and has a £34m release clause in his contract.
However, this latest report states Konate’s representatives remain ‘cautious’ about Liverpool’s progress.
And they insist ‘several clubs’ are still in the running for the star’s signature at the end of the campaign.
Leipzig’s sporting director Markus Krosche recently claimed Klopp’s team was ‘not an option’ for the ace and revealed he hoped to keep him at the club long-term.
When asked over Liverpool’s interest, he told Stats Perform News: “I can’t say anything on that topic. I think that this is not an option for Ibu.

“He has a long contract with us and he knows what we mean to him and what he means to us.”
Krosche added: “He was unlucky last year as he had a longer injury but this year he is in a good way and he is an extremely important player that has a lot of potential.
“We want to help him to further develop, and we play internationally, have a very good team, so I don’t see a reason for him to leave us.”
