Celtic could be given title as Dundee Utd, Raith and Cove handed crowns after Dundee vote YES to end season

DUNDEE have now voted YES to the SPFL’s resolution to end the season amid the coronavirus shutdown – meaning Celtic can be declared Scottish champions and Hearts relegated.

SunSport understands the Dark Blues finally submitted their vote to Hampden bosses this afternoon, five days after the initial deadline.

And the SPFL have now confirmed in a statement that the resolution has passed.

Dundee’s vote means Dundee United, Raith Rovers and Cove Rangers have been declared champions of their respective divisions.

Partick Thistle have been relegated to League One, while Stranraer fall into the bottom tier.

The SPFL now also has the power to declare Celtic champions in Premiership if matches cannot be completed, while Hearts can be relegated.

Premiership, League One and League Two clubs voted to pass the season-ending resolution last Friday.

But Dundee were left holding the balance of power after their own vote was not registered, and the Championship was left one vote short of the 75 per cent threshold.

SPFL chairman Murdoch MacLennan later confirmed the Dark Blues withdrew their submission.

The Dens Park club have since released two statements in which they made no secret of their desire for league reconstruction.

And it appears they finally got their wish for progress on the latter.

In their statement this evening, the SPFL confirmed that Hearts chief Ann Budge and Hamilton chairman Les Gray had been appointed to lead a league reconstruction task force.

That could prove to be good news for the Jambos, Partick Thistle and Stranraer, who could all be saved from relegation as a result.

While vital end-of-season payments will now also be handed out to clubs based on their positions.
