Man Utd’s crunch clash against Copenhagen HALTED by pitch invader as Champions League future hangs in balance


MANCHESTER UNITED’S Champions League clash with Copenhagen was momentarily halted by a pitch invader.

In the ninth minute, a man ran onto the field while the ball was in play.

The players had to wait for the pitch invader to be removed

The supporter, who was holding a Palestine flag, ran around the pitch.

They were eventually caught by stewards and removed from the field.

Following a short stoppage the match was able to restart.

The incident occurred with Man Utd already leading 1-0.

Prior to the match, Copenhagen displayed a huge tifo behind one of the goals.

A message read “Your Theatre of Nightmares”.

The Red Devils coped well initially, taking an early lead through Rasmus Hojlund.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s smart reverse pass sent Scott McTominay racing in behind.

The in-form Scot squared the ball for Hojlund, who gratefully tapped home.

Shortly after the pitch invader ran on Man Utd lost Jonny Evans to injury.

The Northern Ireland international had again been selected alongside Harry Maguire ahead of Raphael Varane.

French international Varane replaced Evans.

Play was then stopped again, when a fan was taken ill in the crowd.

Players waited around as the supporter received treatment, before the match got back underway a few minutes later.

Hojlund then doubled United’s lead on 28 minutes, prodding home from close range after Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was parried.

Things turned into a nightmare for the Red Devils in the 42nd minute, when Marcus Rashford was controversially sent off.

The match turned on this moment, with Copenhagen dramatically going on to win 4-3.

Marcus Rashford was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Elias Jelert on 42 minutes.

And their lead vanished by half-time, with Copenhagen levelling courtesy of strikes by Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves.
