ANDRE ONANA was praised for his mind games with rowdy Copenhagen ultras before Manchester United’s Champions League clash.

United travelled to Denmark needing a win to keep their knockout qualification hopes alive.

And rowdy Copenhagen fans did their best to get inside the head of Red Devils stopper Onana from the get-go.

But the Cameroonian stood firm, deliberately walking to their end to check the goalposts – even giving them a cheeky wave back as tension began to build in the stadium.

BBC reporter John Southall said: “You can hear the boos in the stadium and that’s because the Manchester United goalkeepers have come out to warm up 

“About half-an-hour ago he came out on his own, the stand on my left was already full of vociferous Copenhagen supporters, he marched towards the goal at that end, he chose that end.

“He got to the goal, he walked along the goal line. He walked back across the goal line, you can imagine the reception he got, he touched the post, he waved at the fans and he walked off.

“Very, very brave man.”

Ex-United defender Steve Bruce added: “He’s got a bit of character about him that’s why I think everyone quite likes him and want him to do well.”

Onana was brought in for £47million from Inter Milan after Old Trafford legend David de Gea’s contract ran out.

But the former Ajax man has suffered inconsistent form with mistakes costing United points.

He has maintained the backing of manager Erik ten Hag as the club look to turn their season around.

Onana said: “We have great players, young players, who bring a lot of energy and team spirit. They fight.

“Today it was important for us to win, when you’re playing for Manchester United you always have to try and win. they came in, they did a very good job and I’m very happy for them.

“”Now it’s time to focus on the next game – it’s going to be a fight there but we are Manchester United, we’re going to be ready for them.”
