MANCHESTER UNITED have confirmed they’ve agreed a stunning deal to sign Ajax star Antony.
But despite costing £85.5million, the Brazilian will NOT be United’s most expensive signing ever.
Indeed, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba cost more than Antony – despite being signed five and six years ago respectively.
Expectations for United’s newest forward will be high as Erik ten Hag looks to bring the good times back to Old Trafford.
But how did the Red Devils’ other big-money signings cope with the pressure?
SunSport’s Anthony Chapman takes a look to see if they were a HIT, MISS – or simply in between.

ROMELU LUKAKU – £90m (Everton, 2017)
MISS
Having banged in the goals at Goodison Park, Lukaku managed just 28 league strikes in 66 games for United.
The Belgian was targeted by fans for his lack of effort and poor runs in the final third.
Lukaku was shipped off to Inter Milan after just two seasons, and did little to change opinions during last term’s infamous campaign at Chelsea.

PAUL POGBA – £89m (Juventus, 2016)
MISS
Arguably the most overrated player in Premier League history.
Having ditched United for Juventus on a free transfer in 2012, Pogba was marked as United’s saviour when he returned home.
But he never lived up to his potential in six injury-laden years and has ironically rejoined Juventus on a free transfer AGAIN.
HARRY MAGUIRE – £85m (Leicester, 2019)
MISS
Booed by his own fans during pre-season, Maguire’s Old Trafford spell has been nothing short of a nightmare.
United’s captain has struggled while playing under three managers, making several high-profile errors.
He now finds himself dropped by new boss Ten Hag and faces a huge battle to get back into the side this season.
JADON SANCHO – £73m (Borussia Dortmund, 2021)
JURY’S OUT
Silky winger arrived with big hopes last summer and looked sharp straight away.
But Sancho’s form took a significant drop and his season ended not with a bang but a whimper.
He is looking better under Ten Hag but must continue to maintain high standards if he wants to be declared a hit.

CASEMIRO – £70m (Real Madrid, 2022)
HIT
It might be a bit cheeky to call Casemiro a hit considering he’s only made one brief appearance from the bench.
But the signing of the five-time Champions League winner from Real Madrid has instantly galvanised United.
The club have won both games since Casemiro’s capture after two opening defeats, and his elite pedigree can only enhance United’s game.
