Pep Guardiola reveals keeper Ederson may be Man City’s new penalty taker after Gundogan’s latest miss vs Liverpool

MANCHESTER CITY boss Pep Guardiola has revealed keeper Ederson could be their new penalty taker.

Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan missed from the spot in City’s 4-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

And with other players such as Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling having also missed penalties this season, Guardiola is now thinking of turning to his No1 shotstopper to finish their chances from 12 yards.

“A lot of emotions, many things happening in the game,” Guardiola told the BBC.

“Gundogan missed a penalty, it’s like a routine against them, but we started really really well, doing what we want to do.

“In the second half, the way we react to the goal, the way we played with quality made the difference.

“We knew that we should continue with what we have done the last month or two months, and that’s what we did well.

“For many years we were not able to win here, hopefully next time we can do it with people. Anfield is so intimidating.

“It’s a problem that we have. In important moments, we cannot miss it, and it doesn’t matter the taker. Again, I’m going to think about Ederson, he might be the taker next time.”

Man City moved five points clear of second place Man Utd with a scintillating display at Anfield.

Guardiola is hoping to clinch a third Premier League title in four years having relinquished the championship to Liverpool last season.

Next up for City is a trip to Wales to take on Swansea in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.
