MO FARAH’S athletics career appeared to have been ended today – by a club runner who PAID to race against him.Ellis Cross, 25, who works part-time in an athletics shop in Teddington, stunned Farah and the crowd at the Vitality London 10,000m in front of Buckingham Palace.

Cross ran away from Farah with his final kick to win by 10m in 28minutes 40seconds.
It left the four-time Olympic gold medal winner and six-time world champion, 39, conceding his elite track career IS over.
Farah said: “When I line up I’ve got to be the best athlete I can be and I have to believe I can win.

“I’m just being honest with you guys. In terms of track, that’s it, I think.
“There’s a potential of going to the Commonweath Games in Birmingham or the Europeans this summer.
“But with the World Championships, because I’ve been there and done it, unless I can compete with the guys and be competitive, you’ve got to kind of be honest and make that decision.

Farah revealed he had missed five months of training after tearing his right quad after his failed attempt to gain selection for last year’s rescheduled Olympics in Tokyo but was not making excuses.
Meanwhile, still “pinching myself”, Cross revealed he had splashed out the £37 entry fee and was “hoping for a top five”.
He said: “No-one knows who I am. I’m just a club runner.
“I didn’t get elite entry – I got turned down for that. So I had to pay the entry fee, sleep in my own bed, wake at 6am and take the train in.
“When I was running round everyone was calling Mo’s name because they know who he is and I don’t have my name on my bib. It’s unbelievable.”

FORMER Germany athletics champion Alexander Lubina has died aged 42.The long-distance runner was involved in an accident in Mallorca, leading to his death.

According to the Spanish Guardia Civil, Lubina descended a cliff to a cave in Cala Serena but a storm caused high waves which threw the runner against the rocks.
Divers later salvaged his body from the cave during the night.
A police spokesman told German outlet Bild: “It is a dangerous place where, unfortunately, there have been several accidents and deaths.”
Lubina became Germany’s 10,000 metre champion in 2002.
