The moment Klopp ‘knew he wanted to sign Red Bull Salzburg star Minamino’ after stunning goal vs Liverpool

JURGEN KLOPP is set to sign Takumi Minamino in January – and it could be thanks to his sensational goal AGAINST Liverpool earlier this season.

The Reds boss is set to activate the Red Bull Salzburg star’s £7.25m release clause in January and add even more depth to his star-studded squad.

Liverpool are now hoping to retain their Champions League crown after reaching the last 16 – at Salzburg’s expense – while sitting eight points clear in the Premier League.

But with the fixtures coming thick-and-fast, Klopp knows squad depth will be key.

Japanese forward Minamino, 24, scored a stunning volley in the first meeting with Liverpool in October.

The Reds had stormed to a 3-0 lead and looked to be cruising, but Minamino’s powerful, yet controlled, volley pulled it back to 3-2.

Erling Haaland levelled proceedings at 3-3 with Mohamed Salah grabbing his second of the game to ultimately spare Liverpool’s blushes.

But after Minamino’s goal, fans noticed one big thing about Klopp.

Rather than act in an animated, enraged manner, the enthusiastic German nodded and smiled as if to say “fair enough”.

Klopp is said to be a big fan of the Japan star’s versatility – with the Liverpool boss keen to have players who can play in a number of different positions.

Elsewhere, the Anfield side are said to be winning the race to sign Jadon Sancho – beating Manchester United and Chelsea to the punch.
