Real Madrid ace Lucas Vazquez could miss El Clasico after breaking his big toe
In a statement issued by Madrid, they said: “Following the tests carried out today on our player Lucas Vazquez by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with a fracture to the distal phalanx in his left hallux.
“His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
According to ESPN, the Spanish international will be out for between a month and six weeks.
Zinedine Zidane’s side face the Blaugrana at the Nou Camp on December 18.
Vazquez’s injury will come as a huge blow to Real after Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez picked up a knee injury on international duty.
AS’ medical expert Dr. Jose Gonzalez has stated that Vazquez will not need to surgery to fix his injury, and has claimed his return will depend on his pain tolerance.
He said: “There are players who can play without taking time off despite the fracture and there other players who end up out of training for a month and half.”
It is the second setback Vazquez has suffered this season, having missed two games with a calf injury in October.
Vazquez – who has been linked with a switch to Arsenal – has featured in nine games in all competitions this campaign.
As well as potentially being forced to sit out El Clasico, he stands to miss the upcoming matches against Real Sociedad, Paris Saint-Germain, Alaves, Espanyol and Valencia.
Real sit second in La Liga with 25 points after 12 games, behind Barca only on goal difference.
