Man City monitoring Ake situation as Chelsea dawdle, with Spurs and Arsenal also showing transfer interest in defender

MANCHESTER CITY, Tottenham and Arsenal are poised to pounce if Chelsea do not use their £40million buy-back option on Nathan Ake.

The Dutch defender, 24, has starred for the Cherries since leaving Stamford Bridge and the Blues have the option to secure a return.

But the Athletic claims Chelsea’s scouting reports have left doubts over Ake’s ability to make an impact for Frank Lampard’s side.

And that could open the door for one of their top-four rivals to swoop, with Spurs, City and Arsenal all keeping tabs on the Dutch international.

Ake spent six years at Chelsea until he turned his loan spell with the Cherries into a permanent £20m move in 2017.

He came through the Blues’ academy and has seen former youth team-mates Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount thrive after being given a chance under Lampard.

Arsenal have struggled at the back this season and Mikel Arteta wants another solid central option with William Saliba set to arrive in the summer.

Jose Mourinho’s Spurs have also leaked goals at an alarming rate, while free-scoring City are paying the price for their failure to replace Vincent Kompany.

Ake would suit all three sides with his comfort in possession being a major plus and he will hope to showcase his ability with Holland this summer.

He faces stiff competition at centre-back, however, against Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt.
