Bukayo Saka’s evolution into creative juggernaut makes him first Dream Team midfielder to reach 100 points this season

BUKAYO SAKA (£6.5m) has been a top-tier Dream Team asset for a few years now.But even by the Arsenal winger’s sky-high standards, he’s gone off like a rocket this season. The 23-year-old is one of just three players to have reached the 100-point mark by the end of Gameweek 7, alongside Erling Haaland (£9.1m) and Mohamed Salah (£7.6m).Saka is the first midfielder to reach 100 points in Dream Team this seasonCredit: Dream TeamSaka leads the way among midfielders and is now 15 points clear of the next-best player in his position, Cole Palmer (£6.5m).MOST DREAM TEAM POINTS SO FAR THIS SEASON:Erling Haaland – 111 ptsBukayo Saka – 102 ptsMohamed Salah – 100 ptsCole Palmer – 87 ptsKai Havertz – 76 ptsEberechi Eze – 75 ptsBrennan Johnson – 74 ptsDwight McNeil – 73 ptsTrent Alexander-Arnold – 72 ptsBryan Mbeumo – 72 ptsWhat’s interesting is that out of the top ten performers (see above), only defender Alexander-Arnold has scored fewer goals than Saka at this stage. The reason the Gunners’ homegrown hero has excelled to this point is his evolution into a creative juggernaut.Saka leads the way for both assists and big chances createdCredit: GettySaka assisted his side’s first two goals against Southampton on Saturday and bagged one of his own to seal the win just before full time.As a result, he’s now registered eight assists in all competitions this season, which puts him in a league of his own – Palmer and Salah are his closest rivals on five each. Most read in FootballAll football fans know that not all assists are equal in terms of their actual contribution to the goal being scored but Saka is thoroughly deserving of his tally because he’s also created the most big chances (as defined by Opta) for his team-mates with 12.Again, Palmer is his nearest competitor in the metric but Chelsea’s main man is four behind as it stands on eight. The stats paint a clear picture of Saka in a class of his own when it comes to playmaking.Arsenal’s set-piece supremacy is a huge factor in this as it’s generally the England international who swings in the corners and wide free-kicks for Gabriel (£5.6m) and company to attack with extreme purpose. But it would be a mistake to pigeonhole Saka as Saturday’s showing proved he’s just as capable of unlocking defences in open play – his throughball for Havertz and deep cross for Gabriel Martinelli (£3.9m) were unquestionably decisive actions.Eight assists and countingCredit: GettySaka may be the league’s leading playmaker at present but even that doesn’t tell the full story. He’s scored three goals and registered a whopping 14 shots on target, a tally only bettered by Haaland and Salah.Furthermore, he ranks inside the top 15 midfielders for bonus points and the top 20 for tackles – he does it all!The international break means there’s plenty of time for Dream Team managers to form their strategy for Gameweek 8 and beyond but at this early stage it’s notable that Saka is the second-most popular recruit ahead of the deadline. His ownership has increased to 42.6%, making him the third-most selected player in the game – Haaland and Palmer are one and two respectively.Only Haaland has more points than Saka but this lead has been cut to nine pointsCredit: APSaka’s current price of £6.5m makes him the joint-third most-expensive asset at the time of writing but gaffers should expect another bump after his 20-point haul in Gameweek 7.READ MORE SUN STORIESMikel Arteta’s side have some tricky fixtures after the break with Liverpool, Newcastle, Inter and Chelsea (among others) to come before mid-November.That being said, Saka is among the exclusive group of players for whom the fixture list is largely irrelevant – he’s already provided returns against Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester City and PSG this season.BetMGM sign up offerBetMGM: Get £40 in free bets — HERE**New cust only. 7 days to opt in by placing a £10 qualifying bet at 1/1 (2.0) odds or greater to receive 4x Free Bets: 1 x £10 horse racing, 1 x £10 Bet Builder, 1 x £10 Acca and 1 x £10 football. 7 day expiry. Referee forced to give two penalties after players pick up the ball in bizarre separate incidents during same match

Man City and Premier League locked in bitter war of words as BOTH sides claim victory in landmark legal battle

MANCHESTER CITY are locked in another war of words – after BOTH sides claimed victory in a landmark legal battle.City had attempted to overturn new rules relating to “Associated Party Transactions” – funding through sponsorship of companies owned by club bosses.Man City have won a big legal battle against the Premier LeagueCredit: GettyIn a major rebuttal of the Prem case, three senior Judges including a former Master of the Rolls have now ruled that the Prem’s Associated Party Transaction rules meant City were “unfairly blocked” from inking two major deals.Lord Dyson and his colleagues ruled that current regulations, which do not include loans from major shareholders to clubs having to be part of the APT calculations, are “unlawful”.They also agreed that the element of the rules that prevented City from responding to Prem decisions over what was the “Fair Market Value” of two proposed sponsorship deals was “procedurally unfair”.But a number of City’s other claims against the Prem and its rulebook “failed”, including that the League had wrongly applied its regulations.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLIt left the battle lines being drawn even deeper between the two feuding sides – with the case into City’s alleged “115” breaches of Prem rules still being heard in a Central London venue.City were understood to be triumphant at what they believed was a huge victory, with suggestions that the outcome was a massive blow for the credibility of the League.Yet Prem bosses issued a lengthy statement in which they insisted that the REAL winners were based at offices near Paddington, not at the Etihad.A Prem spokesman said: “The Tribunal endorsed the overall objectives, framework and decision-making of the APT system. Most read in FootballBEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS“The Tribunal upheld the need for the APT system as a whole and rejected the majority of Manchester City’s challenges.“Moreover, the Tribunal found that the Rules are necessary in order for the League’s financial controls to be effective.”Pep Guardiola breaks silence on Phil Foden situation after fans’ conspiracy theory over England star’s absence City were furious when League bosses pushed through the rules, strengthening oversight of commercial deals, at a fractious meeting of the 20 “shareholder” clubs in February. The rules aimed to block clubs bypassing financial controls by earning “unfair” amounts from sponsorships by companies linked to an owner, or by signing a player for below market value from a club in the same ownership group. In the tightest vote on record, the new rules were approved on a vote of 12 in favour and six against, with two clubs abstaining, meaning they passed with the bare minimum majority. That came despite clubs being informed that one member – which swiftly became clear was City – had threatened legal action under the League’s rules allowing an Arbitration appeal. That panel, headed by former Master of the Rolls Lord Dyson, sat to hear submissions in June.City argued that the new rules were anti-competitive, had been deliberately aimed at them by rivals and were both flawed and politically driven, while also questioning the cost of enforcement. The judges concluded the rules were unlawful because they did not take into consideration interest-free loans which shareholders lend to clubs.Of the £4billion borrowing across the Prem, £1.5bn is in loans from club owners and shareholders.READ MORE SUN STORIESAnd if regulations are changed to make these loans included in a profitability and sustainability calculation, many clubs could find they are in breach. That includes City’s title rivals Arsenal, who have borrowed more than £200million from shareholder loans. Why Arsenal’s crucial goal to take lead vs Southampton should NOT have stood, according to ex-Premier League referee

FORMER Premier League ref Mark Halsey believes Arsenal’s crucial goal in the 3-1 win over Southampton should NOT have stood. The official, who spent 14 years in the top-flight, reckons VAR has done Mikel Arteta’s side a huge favour for the second week running.Merino (No23) is offside as he makes an attempt to play the ball before Gabriel Martinelli (No11) scoresCredit: Premier LeagueThe goal proved crucial as the Gunners picked up three pointsCredit: GettyMark Halsey was a Premier League ref for 14 yearsCredit: Getty Images – GettyHalsey felt the Gunners were lucky to still have 11 players on the pitch last Saturday when Riccardo Calafiori made a cynical foul while on a booking in the 4-2 win over Leicester. And this week they appeared to get fortunate again with the decisions again. Arsenal were being held 1-1 by Southampton when Gabriel Martinelli put the hosts in front with a finish from a cross at the back post. The ball fell to him after Mikel Merino tried to head it at goal – only to not make contact with the ball. Simply because he’s in the building and he’s Dutch. So, yes, getting rid of Ten Hag is the easy part. More
