Arne Slot makes best start of any manager in Premier League era with surprise name among legends in top ten

ARNE SLOT has overseen a remarkable start to life at Liverpool. There were doubts over how he would fare when taking over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.Arne Slot tops the list for most wins from his first 17 competitive games in the Premier League era with 15 winsCredit: AFPJose Mourinho previously headed the list with 14 winsCredit: GettyThis feat was later matched by Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea – a club with eight managers in the top 12Credit: Getty Images – GettyJohn Gregory earned 13 wins from his first 17 games when he took over at Aston Villa in 1998Credit: News Group Newspapers LtdBut the former Feyenoord manager has certainly placated those concerns after a stunning start to life in England that sees Liverpool top of the table going into the final international break of the year.Goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah sealed a 2-0 win for the Reds over Aston Villa, extending their lead at the top of the table to five points after Manchester City fell to defeat at Brighton. They are also the only team with a 100 per cent winning record in the Champions League, with four from four.Slot’s team is also still in the hunt for the first trophy available in the form of the Carabao Cup, and will face Southampton in the quarter-finals next month.READ MORE IN FOOTBALLAnd this strong start has also seen Slot make history as the manager to make the best start of any manager in the Premier League era. With the latest win over Villa, Slot has now won 15 of his first 17 games in charge in all competitions, the most of any manager in the Premier League era. This saw him eclipse former Chelsea managers Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho, who both racked up 14 wins from their first 17 games. Ex-Blues bosses Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri were next on the list with 13 each, while John Gregory also earned 13 wins after being parachuted into Aston Villa in early 1998.Most read in FootballBEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERSSix managers then achieved 12 wins from their first 17 games, four of whom were Chelsea managers. Those four are Luiz Felipe Scolari, Guus Hiddink, Avram Grant and new England manager Thomas Tuchel.Liverpool have put Jurgen Klopp’s sprawling £4million home for sale – after Anfield successor Arne Slot turned it down.Meanwhile, the late Sven Goran Eriksson got to this number as Man City boss, while Unai Emery achieved the feat at Arsenal.Fans might be surprised to see the aforementioned Guardiola not on the list. But his first 17 games at Man City yielded 11 wins in all comps, with a start of ten wins on the bounce giving way to a run of six without a win before picking up the 11th.Meanwhile, legendary Gunners boss Arsene Wenger won just seven of his first 17 games in charge of the North London side when he took over in 1996.The Premier League’s most successful manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, also won only seven of his first 17 games with Man Utd.That record was remarkably even worse when the Premier League era kicked off in 1992, with United registering just six wins from the first 17 games of that season.READ MORE SUN STORIESLooking back at Liverpool, Klopp’s first 17 games in charge of the club saw him win nine games, which goes to show how far they have come and the amazing job done in building a capable squad. While it may be early in the season, Slot will doubtless be aware of what winning the title this season would mean – given that it would see Liverpool match Man Utd’s record tally of 20 English league titles. Slot snubbed Spurs, hates defending and has a PASS named after himBy Dan KingLIVERPOOL’S new manager Arne Slot was a good enough player to have a type of pass named after him.But it is as a manager that the Feyenoord head coach is really making his mark.Like another bald Dutchman, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, Slot earned his stripes bossing smaller sides before being given a chance at one of the Netherlands’ big three. But the question Liverpool are pondering is whether Slot would make a better fist of running one of the biggest clubs in the world than Ten Hag so far has at Old Trafford.Slot, 45, was certainly easier on the eye as a player than centre back Ten Hag.“The Arne Slot Ball” was something he perfected as a silky No 10 – a back-to-goal, first-time, 180-degree spin and flick behind the defensive line for a winger to run on to deep in the opposition half.Click here to read all about the incoming Liverpool boss. We live by Chelsea training ground – we HATE their ‘obscene’ plan to ‘take over’ our tiny village & ruin our way of life

Cobham employs 150 people.”Chelsea are developing the area, of course, if you live around the ground, you probably aren’t going to be happy, you’ll be a bit worried.”In the 25 years I have lived here there has been a lot of development and obviously you’re concerned, the build-up of traffic, but this town centre is thriving. “There’s lots of things that impact the house prices here more than Chelsea.”Meanwhile, Chelsea believed the now axed development would “make a valuable contribution of housing” to the area. The west London side, whose last trophy was the Champions League in 2021, was acquired by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital in May 2022.When contacted by The Sun for comment, a spokesperson for Elmbridge Borough Council reiterated its reasons for terminating the stable yard plans. They said: “It was ‘disposed of’. This means no decision was made and it is taken off the planning register.”This is where an application has been with the council for a long period without being determined and is beyond the period where the application can be appealed for non-determination.READ MORE SUN STORIES”The applicant was given a number of opportunities to address issues with the application with no response.”Chelsea Football Club and Clearlake Capital declined to comment.Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is thought to be at the forefront of the development plansCredit: AlamyThese farm buildings were due to be demolished in order to build a new housing estateCredit: Gary StoneLocals feared traffic chaos if the plans had gone aheadCredit: Gary StoneLife near Chelsea’s Surrey training groundsTHOSE living near Chelsea FC’s Surrey training grounds, dubbed the “Beverly Hills of Britain”, have told how they rub shoulders with Premier League footballers and Hollywood actors.Homeowners in the sleepy villages of Oxshott and Cobham spot stars, flanked by 24/7 security, on the daily.Peter Crouch, Jorginho and Raheem Sterling are just some of the players calling the Surrey area home, along with former Hollywood veterans Stanley Tucci and Antonio Banderas.Tree lined roads and protective gates give privacy to the mansions worth millions of pounds.Oxshott has just a few shops, including a luxury coffee house and a fancy butchers – with owners spotting blacked-out Bentleys and Jaguars cruising past.In nearby Cobham, the high street is filled with pilates studios and juice bars.Local butcher Joe Harrington, 21, who grew up in the area, regularly sees flash cars and recognisable faces from behind the counter. He said: “We see a lot of football players hanging about, and their friends and family.”We get a couple in the shop, but people usually pop in on their behalf, we don’t see them directly every time.”There are a few big names and faces hanging about, someone came in the other day who had seen Raheem Sterling at the petrol station down there.”You see a load of faces pulling out of the training ground over the years, I remember seeing Jorginho pull out in a red Ferrari.”It’s full of them round here, everyone’s got big four by fours, Bentleys, any BMWs, Audis, Jaguars.”I did some landscaping jobs and there are some massive houses.”Many Chelsea players are regulars at Cobham restaurant Grappelli, an Italian in the centre of the village.Manager Eddie Alves, 36, said Jorginho came particularly often, adding: “We even became good friends, we went out together, my kids are friends with his kids, he is an amazing guy.”He even did a charity event here with us, celebrated his birthday here with us, so I love all of them, but I have a special attention for Jorginho.”He is an unbelievable guy, he is number 1 for me.”He said Ashley Cole, John Terry and Robert Sanchez – as well as former players Roberto di Matteo, Jimmy Hasselbank, Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch – also dined there a lot.
