Michael Schumacher ‘fighting’ as F1 legend is cared for by wife, kids and nurses following horror ski accident

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER’S former F1 boss Jean Todt says he has been to visit the stricken F1 star.
The seven-time world champion hit his head in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013.

F1 legend Michael Schumacher hit his head in a skiing accident in December 2013

    3

Former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt has revealed he visited Schumacher last week

And his condition remains a secret among those closest to the Schumacher family at their home in Lake Geneva.
But Todt, who oversaw five of Schumacher’s seven titles as boss of Ferrari, is one of only a handful of visitors to see the 51-year-old.
He said: “I saw Michael last week. He is fighting.
“My God, we know he had a terrible and unfortunate skiing accident which has caused him a lot of problems.

“But he has an amazing wife next to him, he has his kids, his nurses, and we can only wish him the best and to wish the family the best, too.
“All I can do is to be close to them until I am able to do something, and then I will do it.”
    IN SAFE HANDS
As Ferrari celebrate their 1,000th race, Schuamcher’s son, Mick, will drive his dad’s F1 car on Sunday around the Mugello circuit.
Schumacher won 72 of his record 91 victories for Ferrari but Todt knows that record will be eclipsed by Lewis Hamilton, who currently stands on 89 wins.

The Brit is also likely to equal Schumacher’s seven world titles this season and Todt admits he never expected anyone to beat that benchmark.
He added: “Lewis will beat all of Michael’s records simply because he is a very talented driver.
“He is motivated and driving for the best team. He has the best car, the best engine so all the ingredients are there.
“It is positive logic that when you do so well in life you get the benefit of it, and that is what is happening with Lewis and Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton wears daring check outfit with matching hat and shorts as Mercedes star scoots his way towards F1 title

LEWIS HAMILTON showed it is not just the chequered flag on his mind with a daring ensemble at the Tuscan Grand Prix.
The Formula One championship leader arrived at Mugello on Thursday wearing a chequered outfit with matching hat, shirt and shorts.

With the second Italian race of the season ahead, Hamilton is looking to bounce back after what appeared to be a straightforward run to first place last weekend turned in a pretty nightmare-ish outing.
A stop-go penalty, dished out for entering the pit lane after it was shut for safety reasons, left the Brit at the back of the pack in Monza.
Yet he turned it around to finish seventh and claim the fastest lap, miraculously maintaining a comfortable 47-point championship lead after bad weekends for Valtteri Bottas and Max Verstappen.
All eyes are now on the Mercedes duo for the Tuscan GP, even though the race at Ferrari’s home track Mugello coincides with the Scuderia’s 1000th GP.

Arriving at the track on Thursday, Hamilton was spotted donning an all-plaid outfit, with matching shorts, shirt and hat.
The 35-year-old, who has a sponsorship deal with Tommy Hilfiger, also wore tinted red sunglasses and a black face mask.

The team is now owned by billionaire, Lawrence Stroll and will be renamed as Aston Martin from next season.
Vettel, 33, will partner Stroll’s son, Lance Stroll, in the team after being shown the door by Ferrari.
The German has made no secret of his desire to remain in the sport while Aston Martin are hoping his experience will help them challenge for wins.
Vettel said: “I am pleased to finally share this exciting news about my future. I’m extremely proud to say that I will become an Aston Martin driver in 2021.

“It’s a new adventure for me with a truly legendary car company. I have been impressed with the results the team has achieved this year and I believe the future looks even brighter.
“The energy and commitment of Lawrence to the sport is inspiring and I believe we can build something very special together.

“I still have so much love for Formula One and my only motivation is to race at the front of the grid.
“To do so with Aston Martin will be a huge privilege.”

Vettel, who won all his titles with Milton Keynes-based Red Bull Racing, is a huge lover of English culture, plus a big James Bond fan.
His switch to the team had been expected after being seen leaving the British GP in the same car as Racing Point’s team principal, Otmar Szafnauer.

Vettel has been a long-term target for the team owner, billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who wants the four-time world champion to partner his son, Lance in the team.
Perez, 30, had expected to stay on, with a deal until 2022, and said he was “hurt” to be leaving the team.
Perez, who missed two races this season after testing positive for Covid-19, posted a message on Twitter.
He said: “Everything in life always has a beginning and an end, and after seven years together, my time with the team will come to an end after this season.

“It hurts a bit as I bet on the team during very rough times; we managed to overcome obstacles and I am very proud of saving the jobs of several of my teammates.
“I’ll keep the memories of the great moments lived together, the friendships and the satisfaction of always giving my all.

I don’t have a plan B. My intention is to continue racing here, but that would depend on finding a project that motivates me.
    Sergio Perez

“I will always be grateful for the opportunity given to me by Vijay Mallya, who believed in me in 2014 and allowed me to continue my F1 career with Force India.
“To the current administration, led by Lawrence Stroll, I wish nothing but the best in the future, specially with the upcoming Aston Martin project.

“I don’t have a plan B. My intention is to continue racing here, but that would depend on finding a project that motivates me to continue giving my 100 percent in each lap.
“I want to thank each one of you who have been with me throughout these 10 years. To my family, who has always been there to support me despite anything.”
Vettel, 33, has been told he is no longer required by Ferrari, who have signed McLaren’s Carlos Sainz as his replacement.
