Lewis Hamilton arrives at F1 Belgian Grand Prix in daring outfit including leopard print shorts and frilly socks

LEWIS HAMILTON has turned up to the Belgian Grand Prix in a brilliantly outlandish outfit. The Brit, 36, is bidding to extend his overall lead in the standings.
Lewis Hamilton expressed his fashion taste when arriving in Spa, Belgium
The world champion shared his new look on his Instagram story
He currently sits eight points ahead of Max Verstappen after the Red Bull driver crashed and finished tenth in Hungarian Grand Prix earlier this month.
And Hamilton’s outfit suggests he is in a confident mood in Belgium.
The world champion was dressed in a lengthy chequered overshirt that reached his knees.
That was complemented with a leopard-skin scarf, shorts and even trainers.
And Hamilton’s footwear was also adorned with big ribbon-like laces.
He posed for snaps and shared a photo on his Instagram story, with each finger on his left hand also decorated with a ring.

Hamilton also appeared in a relaxed mood ahead of a big weekend.
That may be because he has spent the last few weeks resting and recuperating after suffering from long Covid.
The Mercedes star was so tired after finishing in Hungary that he was barely able to stand on the podium.
Damon Hill suggested Hamilton was at risk of burnout after witnessing that incident, and it remains to be seen whether four weeks was enough rest time for Hamilton.

Japanese Grand Prix AXED from 2021 F1 race schedule in October with Covid cases soaring after Tokyo Olympics

THE Japanese Grand Prix has been AXED for the 2021 season due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The race at the iconic Suzuka circuit was scheduled to go ahead on October 10 as the third and final leg of a triple-header following Russia and Turkey.
The Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka has been axed from the 2021 schedule due to CovidCredit: PA:Press Association
But it has now been cancelled at the request of the Japanese Government due to the pandemic.
Japan recently hosted the delayed 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, with the Paralympics running in the capital from August 24 until September 5.
But with cases of Covid-19 soaring in the country, the Japanese Government has moved to scrap the Formula One race from the 2021 calendar.
The decision comes in spite of F1 chiefs promising to follow stringent rules for travelling teams.
Bosses had agreed to compulsory chartered flights from Istanbul to Japan and testing on arrival, as well as strict security to ensure no team members left their hotel – eating only at the circuit.
On the decision, an F1 statement read: “Following ongoing discussions with the promoter and authorities in Japan, the decision has been take by the Japanese Government to cancel the race this season.

“[This is] due to ongoing complexities of the pandemic in the country.
“Formula 1 is now working on the details of the revised calendar and will announce the final details in the coming weeks.
“Formula 1 has proven this year, and in 2020, that we can adapt and find solutions to the ongoing uncertainties.
“[We are] excited by the level of interest in locations to host Formula 1 events this year and beyond.”
The cancellation of the Japan GP could cause a few problems though, thanks to Turkey – the race immediately before Suzuka – being on the UK’s red list for travel.

🏁 F1 2021 calendar: practice times, dates and racetrack info
F1 chiefs had tweaked the schedule so that all UK-based personnel would eat up seven days of their ten-day window post-Turkey at Suzuka, before spending a further three days in Japan and flying home.
It’s therefore likely another race will be thrown into the schedule to allow the 1,000-plus British-based teams and staff won’t be forced to head home and self-isolate.
It’s believed Qatar is being considered for a race, while a second Bahrain GP is on the table, to replace Japan.

Lewis Hamilton’s F1 team-mate will be George Russell as Mercedes give ‘clear indication’ of change, claims Schumacher

GEORGE RUSSELL has cemented his place as the favourite for a Mercedes drive next season, according to Ralf Schumacher. The ex-Formula One star believes Russell’s call-up to a summer tyre test in the Merc is a telling sign that he will replace Valtteri Bottas.
George Russell has been tipped to race for Mercedes next seasonCredit: Alamy
Team principal Toto Wolff has previously declared that the 2022 drive line-up will be completed over the summer break, which ends later this month.
Lewis Hamilton is signed up for another two seasons with the speculation focused on Bottas’ precarious position.
Many fans and pundits had assumed that Williams star Russell, 23, would be the driver elevated if Bottas is removed – until Jacques Villeneuve claimed that Lance Stroll might get the nod.
But Schumacher, 46, has insisted that Russell’s move is all but done.
The German told AutoBild: “It’s true that [Aston Martin boss Lawrence] Stroll and Wolff are close friends.
“But how far would they go? I don’t think Lance Stroll plays a role at Mercedes.
“I think that’s where Russell is seated. It is no coincidence that he is doing the tests for Mercedes with the new 18-inch tyres that will be used next year.
“For me this is a clear indication.”
    MER TO COME
Russell replaced Hamilton for last year’s Sakhir Grand Prix when the world champion was ruled out with coronavirus.
And he bagged his first points for Williams with a ninth-placed finish in Hungary last time out, elevated to eighth after Sebastian Vettel’s disqualification.
The Brit’s summer break began with a test on next year’s 18-inch wheels and he clocked 137 laps in the Mercedes before jetting off to Santorini.
Fans eagerly await an announcement on his future with Bottas, 31, tipped to be dropped after a first-corner crash in the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Bottas’ contract expires at the end of the year but it has been speculated that Toto Wolff will attempt to find him a seat for 2022 regardless.

Ex-racer Villeneuve named Aston Martin’s Stroll as one contender for the Merc seat on the basis that Bottas will move in the opposite direction.
He had said “Stroll Snr’s dream, very close to Toto Wolff, is to see his son winning championships.
“And Toto needs a place for Valtteri.”
