      THE Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was one of the most memorable in recent history.Jeddah certainly lived up to the hype. Fans saw two red flags, crashes, near misses and time penalties.

      Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton ultimately came out on top, edging out title rival Max Verstappen.
      The Brit’s win draws him level on points with the Dutchman with just Abu Dhabi to go.
      There are two scenarios which could see the pair end the season level on points, albeit unlikely. Although if they did, Verstappen would win the title by virtue of more race wins over the season.
      Whatever happens this coming weekend, fans will see an out-right winner.

      Taking the Mick
      Mick Schumacher was the first to drop out of the Saudi GP after he spun out and hit the Turn 23 barriers.
      The Safety Car turned into a red flag shortly after, handing Verstappen the opportunity to change his tyres during the break.
      Hamilton, on the other hand, stopped under the yellow flags to change tyres with the move backfiring as it saw him give up his lead and go second.

      Maze Runner
      From the restart, Hamilton got back in the lead but was then cut off by Verstappen who ran off the track at the first chicane.
      It saw the Brit to drop down to third behind Esteban Ocon.
      However, a red flag stopped the race again after Sergio Perez, Charles Leclerc, Nikita Mazepin and George Russell were involved in an incident.

      Flying Dutchman
      After some bargaining, Mercedes and Red Bull came to the agreement that Hamilton would restart in P2 and Verstappen in P3, behind Alpine’s Ocon.
      Verstappen made an unbelievable move up the inside of the first Chicane to take the lead, sandwiching Hamilton in between the Alpine.
      The calculated but risky move paid off for the 24-year-old.

      DRS range
      After three Virtual Saftey Cars between Laps 28 to 36, Hamilton got within range of Verstappen to make use of his DRS.
      Verstappen braked late at the end of the main straight, running wide, but retaining the lead.

      Are Lew kidding me?
      Verstappen’s late braking saw him be forced to give up P1 to his title rival in Lap 37.
      Some confusion over Verstappen giving up the place saw Hamilton clip the back of the Red Bull car, causing minor damage to his front wing.
      A move Hamilton wasn’t too happy with.

      Second time lucky?
      Hamilton tried to get past Verstappen again in Lap 42, but was again met with a feisty defence.
      Verstappen pushed him wide to keep his place.
      The Dutchman was later punished with a five-second time penalty for that.

      You snooze, Lew lose
      Hamilton finally got a clean pass on the Red Bull driver in Lap 43 on Turn 27.
      The title-chasing Brit also put in the fastest lap of the race, despite finishing with a damaged wing.
      Ocon – who benefitted from the earlier red flag allowing a change of tyres – was pipped on the line by Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas, completing a Mercedes first and third-placed finish.
      Hamilton took 26 points to Verstappen’s 18, tying up the title race at 369.5 points each.

      Stewards later investigated the collision between the pair after the race and slapped Verstappen with an additional ten-second penalty.
      Mercedes celebrated on the podium with Hamilton’s dreams of an eighth F1 crown still alive, as well as all-but tying up the constructors’ championship.
      Verstappen, far from pleased, refused to stay and spray champagne, and instead stormed off stage and left the Merc three to drench each other.

      The British superstar narrowly avoided disaster after his Red Bull foe braked suddenly when allowing him to retake position.
      It saw the pair collide before the Mercedes driver managed to overtake a few laps later.
      The Dutchman was ordered to let Hamilton pass after he cut him up to avoid being overtaken – once again nearly causing a crash.
      Hamilton said: “I don’t think I’ve changed the way that I race.
      “I think we’re seeing multiple incidents this year where even with Brazil we’re supposed to do our racing on track in between the white lines and the rules haven’t been clear from the stewards, that those things have been allowed, so that’s continued.
      “From my understanding, I know that I can’t overtake someone and go off track and then keep the position but I think that’s well known between all us drivers but it doesn’t apply to one of us, I guess.”

      Hamilton also suggested Verstappen is among the Formula One stars that drive over the limit.
      He added: “For me I really had to try and keep my cool out there which was really difficult to do.
      “I have raced a lot of drivers through my life in 28 years and I have come across a lot of different characters.
      “There’s a few at the top which are over the limit, rules don’t apply or don’t think of the rules.
      “I just try to do my talking on the track and keep the car between the white lines and do it the right way.
      “There were so many crazy curb walls and then he obviously brake tested I think to try and get the DRS into the last corner to overtake me again going into turn one.
      “Does Max fall into that category…He is over the limit for sure. I have avoided collisions on so many occasions with the guy and I don’t know in his mind being the one who does that. But you fight to live another day which I did.”

      As Verstappen slowed, Hamilton clipped the back end of his rival’s car – damaging his front wing.
      Nonetheless, Hamilton held his nerve and won the Saudi GP convincingly to claim his third victory in a row.
      Verstappen was also given a ten-second penalty after the race, but it didn’t change his place on the podium.
      The win sees Hamilton draw level on points with Verstappen with just Abu Dhabi to go.

      But should the tenth-placed driver set the fastest lap of the race, they will pick up an extra point, meaning both pick up two for Abu Dhabi – therefore finishing level on 371.5 points.

      Hamilton went on to win the race, but Mercedes’ celebrations afterwards came under fire after the accident left Verstappen knocked out and led to the 24-year-old being air-lifted to hospital.

      RED BULL advisor Helmut Marko has claimed his team are treated differently to Mercedes by FIA stewards following Lewis Hamilton’s win at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.The 36-year-old won his third race in a row to move level on points with his Dutch rival going into Sunday’s final GP of 2021 in Abu Dhabi.

      In a chaotic race in Saudi Arabia, Verstappen was twice told by stewards to give the lead back to the British icon after running Hamilton deep twice at Turn One.
      And the 24-year-old was also slapped with a ten-second penalty following the race after braking into Hamilton on lap 37.
      The incident led Hamilton to brand Verstappen as ‘f****** crazy’ on Mercedes’ team radio.
      Verstappen was even given a five-second penalty during the GP for leaving the track earlier in the race.
      Marko has expressed his frustration that Hamilton was more than ten car lengths behind Verstappen en route to the grid at the first red flag restart.
      The 78-year-old is also of the opinion that the seven-time F1 World Champion forced Verstappen wide at the final corner after he allowed him to re-take the lead.

      Speaking before Verstappen’s ten-second penalty, Marko stated that he ‘did not accept the decisions’.
      He told Autosport: “Our engineers are preparing that we can prove Max was constant with his braking, he didn’t brake test like Hamilton said.
      “Then he crashed into our car, he unfortunately put two cuts in the rear tyre. That was so severe that we couldn’t attack anymore. We had to take speed out.
      “That was the one thing. The next thing was at the second start, Hamilton was more than ten [car] lengths behind.
      “[Sebastian] Vettel got penalised in Budapest when he did it. But with this manoeuvre he [Hamilton] was preparing his tyre better for the start.
      “Then he pushed Max off, no reaction. So we feel we are not treated the same.”
      Verstappen was left furious following the race, as he stormed off the podium having seen Hamilton draw level with him in the championship.
      Hamilton suggested that Verstappen drives over the limit after he narrowly avoided disaster in Jeddah.

      He remarked: “For me I really had to try and keep my cool out there which was really difficult to do.
      “I have raced a lot of drivers through my life in 28 years and I have come across a lot of different characters.
      There’s a few at the top which are over the limit, rules don’t apply or don’t think of the rules.
      “I just try to do my talking on the track and keep the car between the white lines and do it the right way.
      “There were so many crazy curb walls and then he obviously brake tested I think to try and get the DRS into the last corner to overtake me again going into turn one.
      “Does Max fall into that category…He is over the limit for sure. I have avoided collisions on so many occasions with the guy and I don’t know in his mind being the one who does that. But you fight to live another day which I did.” More

      And boy does the racing legend know how to spend it – splashing his cash on the best cars that could earn him the title of ultimate celebrity petrol head.
      The eco-warrior equalled Michael Schumacher’s seven world titles last season and after a thrilling win in Saudi Arabia last night he can claim a record eighth crown this Sunday in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
      But away from the track, Hamilton, 36, has an equally impressive fleet of cars worth around – wait for it – £13MILLION.
      Of course, being a driver, he’s a car fanatic and collects everything from supercars to vintage classics that he divides between two garages – one in Monaco and another in LA.
      He said previously: “I don’t know anything about wine. I don’t know a huge amount about art. But what I do know is cars, and I’m very particular about them.
      Amusingly, so they keep their value, when Hamilton doesn’t want to drive them back home – he reportedly has a tow-truck that comes to pick them up from whatever restaurant or club he’s at. Here we take a look at just some of his extravagant collection:

      The rarest motor in Hamilton’s possession is a £1.6m Pagani Zonda that was made entirely for him.
      The exterior and interiors are purple, and at the request of the sports star he opted for a manual gearbox instead of the usual sequential one.
      His reasons? Because he hated getting behind the wheel of it initially.
      “The Zonda is terrible to drive!” he once said.
      “It’s the best-sounding car I own, but handling-wise it’s the worst.”

      Believed to be worth around £4m, it’s a rare sight – unless you’ve seen the racer cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway in LA.

      LAFERRARI
      Every car aficionado worth their weight in salt owns this £1m Ferrari – another collector’s item that rises in value as the years go by.
      Capable of reaching a top speed of 217 mph, the LaFerrari can hit 0-62 mph in just 2.4 seconds, meaning it’s Hamilton’s fastest car he owns.
      Footballers including Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Son Heung-min also drive this frighteningly fast motor that must be just like handling a racing car.

      MERCEDES-AMG PROJECT ONE
      Lewis has already got his hands on a Project One, that’s not even supposed to be out till next year.
      He was heavily involved in the production of the plug-in hybrid sports car that’s capable of hitting a top speed of 217mph.
      Only 275 are going to be released at a cost of around £2m.
      Make that 274 now, since Hamilton has one.

      He already owned a SL Black Series, so why not add the SLS, right?
      Hamilton, who clearly has a need for speed, added this supercar to his garage probably because it’s the fastest Mercedes in production.
      Powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that produces 622bhp – the SLS can reach a top speed of 196 mph.
      It also hits 0-60 in just 3 seconds – making it the ideal car for Hamilton to get his thrills off the track with. For a price tag of £230k, it’s just what you’d expect really.

      MCLAREN P1
      Despite splitting with McLaren’s racing team, Hamilton can’t have felt too aggrieved with his former employers because in 2015 he added a £2m P1 to his extensive list of rides.
      The P1 has a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine, which is twinned with an electric motor that means the supercar has a total power and torque output of 903 bhp and 980 Nm of torque.
      In real talk that means it’s fast and powerful, can hit a top of 217 mph and 0-60mph in under 2.7 seconds.

      1967 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY GT500
      The second classic car that’s part of his fleet, fans of the Hollywood movie Gone In 60 Seconds might recognise this motor as looking to similar to one of the Eleanor models from the film.
      Hamilton had his customised by Oklahoma shop Classic Recreations for additional cost.
      At auctions, these can fetch up to £750k, and you can bet Hamilton’s is in tip-top condition. That said, we doubt he’ll ever sell it.
      BEST OF THE REST
      When the Mercedes-Maybach 6 came out in 2016, Hamilton made sure he got his hands on the concept car.
      The 2×2 coupe is completely electric, and can run up to 200 miles before it’ll need recharging.
      Hamilton also has another Mercedes – the Maybach S600, which is a luxurious chauffeur’s car with a partition separating the front seats from the back.
      Both those motors have a combined worth of around £800k.
      And Hamilton doesn’t mind swapping four wheels for two – sometimes taking his £6,500 Honda CRF450RX Motocross Bike around the dirt tracks of California.
      Then there’s also his Maverick X3 dune buggy that would’ve set him back around £20k, that’s also electric in theme with his eco-warrior status.

      As Verstappen slowed, Hamilton clipped the back end of his rival’s car – damaging his front wing.
      Nonetheless, Hamilton held his nerve and won the Saudi GP convincingly to claim his third victory in a row, and the win sees him draw level on points with Verstappen with just Abu Dhabi to go.
      On the lap 37 incident, Horner said: “That was a race that was very difficult to manage. I think race control struggled it as well with the amount of debris and VSCs (Virtual Safety Cars), restarts, safety cars.
      “I think we feel hard done by with the five-second penalty and in the incident where Lewis has driven up the back of Max.
      “They’ll go and explain in front of the stewards, but Max was trying to give the place up. We informed race control we were going to give the place up.
      “He lifted off, I think you can hear Lewis has lifted off. I don’t know if he was messing around for the DRS line there.

      “It was clear that we were giving the place up. We’d informed race control. That was what we were going to do.
      “There’d been a debate about it. Michael was adamant that you have a choice or it’s going to the stewards.
      “At that point you know it’s going to be a penalty. So we said, ‘OK we’ll give the place up.’ We informed race control.”
      Horner also didn’t hold back, claiming sectors two and three in the Saudi Grand Prix wasn’t ‘driver focused’, as ‘anyone can drive in a straight line’.
      With Verstappen dominating sector one, it was seen as a dig at Hamilton.
      He added: “Sector one is more driver focused and the sector two and three is more about the engine.
      “Anyone can drive in a straight line.”
      VERSTAPPEN PENALTY
      After a meeting with the stewards, Verstappen was deemed to be at fault for the crash, and he was hit with a ten-second penalty.
      However, the Dutchman keeps his second-place finish after finishing 16 seconds faster than Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
      When asked about the incident later, Hamilton – who is chasing an eighth world title – said: “For me I really had to try and keep my cool out there which was really difficult to do.
      “I have raced a lot of drivers through my life in 28 years and I have come across a lot of different characters.
      “There’s a few at the top which are over the limit, rules don’t apply or don’t think of the rules.
      “I just try to do my talking on the track and keep the car between the white lines and do it the right way.

      “There were so many crazy kerb walls and then he obviously brake-tested, I think to try and get the DRS into the last corner to overtake me again going into turn one.
      “Does Max fall into that category… he is over the limit for sure.
      “I have avoided collisions on so many occasions with the guy and I don’t know in his mind being the one who does that.
      “But you fight to live another day, which I did.”
