‘We will be in trouble’ – Lewis Hamilton fears rival Max Verstappen’s speed as Red Bull star closes in on title

LEWIS HAMILTON has admitted Mercedes will be in ‘a lot of trouble’ if Max Verstappen and Red Bull maintain their current pace. The seven-time world champion could only manage second place behind his world title rival in Mexico last weekend, meaning 24-year-old Verstappen increased his lead in the drivers’ championship to 19 points.

Hamilton has only managed to outperform the Dutchman in one of the last six races as Red Bull begin to get the upper hand in the tussle with Mercedes.
And, with just four races of the F1 season remaining, Hamilton has conceded that he has fears over the impressive speed of Red Bull.
Speaking via GP Fans after the Mexico GP, he said: “There’s still four races [but] obviously 19 points is a lot of points and I think he’s had a lot of wins this year.
“I think today with their superior speed, if they were to carry that into the next ones then we will be in trouble.
“I don’t know if they’ll be using that huge wing that they had on today, naturally we’ll find out when we get there, but I hope we’re closer.”
Hamilton knows he now needs to win as many races as possible to keep his title hopes alive.

But Red Bull’s pace is making that incredibly difficult for the Brit as he struggles for answers against the supremely talented Verstappen.
“I naturally feel I need to be winning every race, because we need those extra points, not to lose those points, to try and regain,” he added.
“That was the goal going into the last race and the race before that and before that, and here this weekend.
“But they’re just too quick, so giving it absolutely everything we’ve got but unfortunately it’s not enough at the moment to compete with them.”

Lewis Hamilton ‘staying positive’ as he posts inspirational message to help try and get his F1 title hopes back on track

LEWIS HAMILTON vowed to keep fighting as his F1 title defence hangs by a thread. The Brit saw championship rival Max Verstappen extend his lead in the driver standings to 19 points with victory at the Mexican Grand Prix.

Hamilton finished a distant second at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as he fought off the challenge of home hope Sergio Perez.
Now the seven-time champion has taken to Instagram with an inspirational message ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Posting a photo of what appears to be himself sat in a hollowed-out jet engine, Hamilton wrote: “Good morning World. I hope this new week brings you happiness and provides you with proof that you are on the right path.
“Whether things are good or bad, trust that you will come away fighting and that you will overcome whatever it may be.
“Know that all of your time, patience and hard work will pay off. Stay positive and don’t let up! You got this, I believe in you.”
Hamilton has been untouchable in recent years but this season has proven different with the phenomenal challenge of Red Bull.

The Mercedes man and his Dutch foe had traded places in the championship table up until last weekend’s race in Mexico City.
But back-to-back wins for the Red Bull driver have seen him open up a sizable gap at the top of the rankings.
The races now come thick and fast until the end of the season, with teams already heading to Sao Paulo.
After that comes the Middle East swing as F1-mad Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi host what promises to be an epic finale to the season.

Inside F1 star Max Verstappen’s £12m private jet that the Red Bull star bought from Virgin boss Richard Branson

THIS Red Bull driver really does have wings.Max Verstappen, 24, showed yet again he was king of the circuit over the weekend – winning the Mexican Grand Prix by 16 seconds ahead of fierce rival Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen currently leads the driver standings by 19 points

The victory extended his lead to 19 points in the driver standings with just four races to go.
And motor racing isn’t the only thing Verstappen is flying high in.
For he is the proud owner of his own private jet, that he splashed the cash on in 2020.
Max paid around £12million for the Falcon-900EX, that used to have a famous owner.
It was previously in the hands of Virgin boss and British business magnate, Sir Richard Branson, according to reports.
    LAVISH EXPENSE
Verstappen already leads a life of luxury, and is said to have a £45million fortune.
He lives in a stunning apartment in Monaco, like most F1 heroes, worth millions.
Mad Max also has an incredible car collection, owning various Aston Martins through the years. And he’s awaiting their £2million Valkyrie, which he has on order and is due for delivery next year.
But in the meantime, he has another toy to play with – and like his team’s drink’s motto, it gives him wings.
Dutch star Verstappen paid around £12m for his own plane
Inside the cockpit of Verstappen’s stunning plane
Verstappen pays around £1m-per-year in up-keep of the Falcon-900EX
Last year, Verstappen bought himself a Falcon-900EX private jet worth about £12m to travel in style with.
Better still, you can bet it was very well looked after by its previous owner.
That’s because it was said to be owned by Virgin Atlantic billionaire Sir Richard Branson.
    PLANE SPEC
Incredibly, the Falcon-900EX costs about £1million-per-year to keep.
But that won’t dent Verstappen’s bank balance, who is happy to fly in style and sometimes give mates like Daniel Ricciardo a lift to a Grand Prix.
Made in 2008, it was given a significant upgrade before it was handed over to F1’s youngest ever Grand Prix winner.
Now powered by three Honeywell TFE731-60 engines, it’s capable of a maximum range of 8,750 kilometres before it requires refuelling, can hit a top speed of 892 km/h, and cruising speed of 850 km/h.
As for the interiors, it’s just as luxurious.
Capable of seating up to 12 passengers, two seats can be reclined to make a full-size bed.

There’s tables fitted to enjoy a meal and a drink.
There’s even a bar to celebrate, in case you want to pop open some champagne after victory.

F1 introduce ‘Brundle clause’ to force celebrities to give interviews and block them from using bodyguards on grids

F1 BOSSES have apparently introduced a ‘Brundle clause’ to stop celebrities from snubbing grid interviews.Sky commentator Martin Brundle thinks the sport’s chiefs have put in a new rule for the rich and famous.

Martin Brundle (right) had a run-in with one of Megan Thee Stallion’s bodyguards as he tried to interview her at the US Grand PrixCredit: Splash
It came after an awkward exchange between Brundle and Megan Thee Stallion at the United States Grand Prix.
The broadcaster was ushered away by the rapper’s security when he tried to ask a question.
One of the rapper’s protecters told Brundle: “You can’t do that.”
But the former F1 driver snapped back: “I can because I just did.”
And Brundle called for manners from celebrities attending races in a post on social media.
He wrote: “I have felt under pressure on the grid before but by people called Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Mansell, Piquet and so on.
“Bodyguards visiting the grid for the first time don’t bother me, everyone’s got a job to do, but they could maybe learn some manners and respect on our patch.”

And it looks like the broadcaster has got his way, if his latest comments are to be believed.
Brundle said: “There have been new rules introduced, that any celebrities on the grid must not have bodyguards any longer.
“It must be the ‘Brundle clause’, and they’re obliged to talk to me. I sort of like it if they ignore me, to be honest.
“I like to call out some of the celebs that I think are just using the grid a little bit if I’m honest. They don’t really have a passion.
“I know there are millions of fans at home going ‘I should be on that grid. I’m a massive Formula 1 fan, not them’.
“But my claim to fame at last. I get ignored by Megan Thee Stallion, I get biffed out of the way by a man mountain and then told off by a Malfoy lookalike who doubtless was on his first-ever time to a Formula 1 grid.
“I put out a simple tweet about it and got five million impressions. I don’t understand any of that, to be honest.”

‘Beat us but can’t break us’ – Lewis Hamilton backtracks over Valtteri Bottas ‘letting door open’ for Max Verstappen

LEWIS HAMILTON has set the record straight on his comments towards his teammate Valtteri Bottas AND Red Bull’s Sergio Perez. After Max Verstappen’s win in Mexico, Hamilton – and his Mercedes boss Toto Wolff – questioned how the Dutchman was allowed so much space by Bottas going into turn one.

Verstappen swooped around both Mercedes cars into the lead and he did not look back and while Hamilton finished second, Bottas was left out of the points.
However, Hamilton has cleared up his comments towards Bottas, who will leave the team at the end of the season.
Hamilton wrote on Instagram: “We all have bad days. We live and we learn.”Yesterday I said that VB [Bottas] left the door open and naturally people will jump to criticise.
“We are a team and we win and lose as a team. There is not one single person responsible for winning or losing, we do it together good or bad.
“You may be able to beat us but you can’t break us! On to the next one Valtteri, let’s keep pushing bro.”

Hamilton also posted about his remarks towards Perez, the Mexican who finished in third place.
After the race Hamilton said: “When you’ve got Checo [Perez] on your tail, then you know the car is quick.”
However, Hamilton says that was not meant to be a criticism of Perez.
He added: “Just want to make sure people don’t read what I was saying wrong yesterday.
“I have a lot of respect for Perez, and think he’s doing a great job in his new team.
“He’s improved so much this season and I know how hard it is to progress with a new team, it takes time.
“My comment was simply that following another car in Mexico is the hardest thing due to the low drag we all have.
“That’s why there is very little over taking (sic). However, he was able to follow so closely which highlights just how much more downforce they were able to carry.
“Big up Checo for keeping it clean.”

‘It’s time we had a change’ – Sir Jackie Stewart tips Lewis Hamilton to finally lose F1 crown to Max Verstappen

SIR JACKIE STEWART has tipped Max Verstappen to beat Lewis Hamilton to the F1 title and declared: It’s time for a change. The three-time world champion was in Mexico City where Verstappen won Sunday’s GP to open up a commanding 19-gap over Hamilton in the championship.

A dejected Lewis Hamilton admitted he didn’t have the pace to keep up with the Red BullCredit: EPA
Hamilton was dejected at the end of the race and admitted he simply could not match Verstappen’s Red Bull for pace.
When asked to pick the championship winner after the four remaining races, Stewart sided with the Dutchman.
He said: “I think Verstappen is going to win it. I think the Red Bull now is going, the Honda is obviously good, very good, the team knows how to win.
“Mercedes-Benz has been doing this for so many years now and has been successful for so many years.
“It is time we had a change. For all of our viewers and everybody else, we need a change. It will only be a bigger challenge for Lewis to overtake again.”
While Stewart is confident, Red Bull’s design whizz, Adrian Newey, is remaining cautious about ending Merc’s seven-year domination of the sport.
Newey, who splits his time across refining this year’s challenger and next year’s new car, said: “You just cannot say [the title is Max’s], can you? It has been nip and tuck all year.

“Obviously, going into Silverstone he had a healthy advantage and two races later we were completely on the back foot so everything can change.”
Meanwhile, Merc boss Toto Wolff says he is refusing to give up hope about overturning the deficit to Red Bull.
He said: “I’m a pretty realistic person, but I love motor racing, because anything can happen.
“None of us are ever going to leave this circuit with the mentality of this is going away from us.
“There’s four races to go, there’s four wins to take, four DNFs to suffer. And we will just continue fighting.
“We know we have a great team. Our car was exceptionally good in Turkey. And I think we have all to win.
“But when you look at the mathematical probability, obviously I’d rather be 19 points ahead than behind. But it is what it is.”
