Lewis Hamilton tipped to ‘come back stronger’ by George Russell amid F1 struggles as Mercedes continue to work on car

LEWIS HAMILTON has the pace and will “come back stronger”, says Mercedes team-mate George Russell.The seven-time champion has struggled this season and finds himself down in seventh in the F1 championship – below Russell who is fourth.

Hamilton finished 13th last time out in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, but Russell does not believe his bad fortune will continue for long.
He told Sky Sports F1: “Lewis has clearly got the pace.
“He’s incredibly fast and he’s showed that so far this year, but it’s just been tricky for us as a team to get it done when the time is needed.
“When things have been more stable, Lewis has still been massively fast.

McLAREN vow to investigate old social media posts allegedly made by an employee who called Lewis Hamilton a “p**” and a “f***ing ‘w*****”.The abusive posts to the seven-time Formula One world champion were allegedly sent from now-deleted private Twitter and Facebook accounts.

When Hamilton tested positive for coronavirus before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December 2020 and had to complete a ten-day quarantine, read: “What a f***ing w*****” he truly is! Couldn’t stand seeing someone do well!”
The employee also allegedly replied “f***ing p***” to a tweet from the official F1 account that tagged Hamilton last year.
After Hamilton was knighted, they went on to allegedly write: “Oh f*** off! For having the fastest car on the grid. What a w*****.”
And when the British racing legend was last November disqualified from qualifying at the Brazilian GP, the staffer is said to have written: “F***ing get in!!! F*** off you p***.”

The alleged racist and abusive messages were forwarded to McLaren’s F1 team, who have said they will investigate it.
A statement read: “We consider these comments to be completely at odds with our values and culture at McLaren.
“We take the matter extremely seriously and are investigating it as a priority.”

It was his worst result of the year so far, but the seven-time World Champion was left even more disheartened as he was LAPPED by Max Verstappen, who then went on to win the race, on the 41st lap.
But, Max’s father Jos has made it clear that he does not sympathise with Hamilton whatsoever.

After the race, he said: “It’s been difficult, but I don’t really know what to say. It’s definitely not easy.
“I am out of the championship, and there’s no question about that.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff was heard apologising to the 37-year-old driver about the car after the race, which saw team-mate George Russell finish way ahead in fourth place.
Wolff told Hamilton: “Sorry for what you have needed to drive today. I know this is undriveable and not what we deserve to score as a result.
“We’ll move from there, but this was a terrible race. We will come out of this.”

IT might not be all doom and gloom for Lewis Hamilton. A team engineer has revealed there are “encouraging signs” for Mercedes ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

Seven-time world champion Hamilton has been plagued by car issues this season, and was LAPPED way down in 13th at last weekend’s Emilia Romagna GP.
The 37-year-old and team-mate George Russell have experienced severe porpoising – with their cars bouncing almost uncontrollably.
But now Mercedes’ Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin has revealed that progress on the issue is being made, and there could be new parts on the car by the time the Miami GP rolls around.
He said, via formula1.com: “Being realistic, we think this will be something we approach in steps rather than one big moment where the whole thing [porpoising] vanishes, but we are seeing encouraging signs.

JEAN-ERIC VERGNE is lapping up the pressure of leading the Formula E Championship ahead of his home race in Monaco. The Frenchman is currently leading the Drivers Championship on 60 points despite failing to win a race this season.
Vergne currently leads the Formula E championship by two points ahead of the Monaco EPrix
But with Formula E returning to the iconic street circuit in Monaco for a fifth time this weekend, the two-time Formula E champ is looking to extend his lead at the top.
And with teammate Antonio Felix da Costa following up Vernge’s 2019 victory with another win last year, Monaco has been a happy hunting ground for DS Techeetah.
The 32-year-old said: “It is positive pressure.
“We usually perform well under pressure and, adding the fact that it’s Monaco and that we are leading the championship, it’s a good combination for us to do very well.

“It’s one of my favourite tracks with a lot of history and a fantastic layout.
“In Formula One, there is nowhere where you can really overtake but in Formula E, there are many corners where you can overtake so it is very exciting for both the drivers and also for the fans, as we saw last year with so many overtakes.”
Scoring in the opening five races so far has been key to Vergne setting the pace in the Championship.
But a one-two finish for Mercedes and Porsche in Diriyah and Mexico City has seen DS’ rivals leapfrog them in the constructors title.

Formula E is set to make it’s fifth appearance in Monaco this weekend
And while Vergne understands the Chinese-based manufacturer does not have the pace yet to win a race, he has challenged his team to improve ahead of the race in Monaco.
He added: “We simply do not have the pace yet to win a race.
“I told my team the key this year if we want to win the Championship is consistency – get a win whenever we can, get a podium whenever we can, and sometimes save valuable points even though we think that we could have had better in the race.
“In Rome – the first race – I finished fourth and I could have fought harder for third, but I think the risk was too great to lose more positions and we were content with fourth place.”
“In Riyadh, the Mercedes were clearly on top of everybody, and in Mexico we clearly were the second force behind the Porsche. In Rome, it was again the same case – Jaguar were too strong.
“All we can do is try and always improve ourselves. I know that we do not have to do a lot.
“We just have to work hard to find those little details and once we find them, we are probably going to have this little push that’s going to allow us to fight for wins.
