ALFA ROMEO driver Zhou Guanyu has been involved in a horror crash on the first corner at the British Grand Prix with multiple cars involved.The 23-year-old collided with Mercedes ace George Russell at Silverstone with the Chinese ace’s car flipping upside down.

His Alfa Romeo ended up in the gravel, where his car then flipped over again before smashing into the fence after skidding for 200 metres.
Russell instantly jumped out of his car to check up on his rival, which ultimately saw him disqualified after leaving his vehicle.
A red flag was immediately called, with Alex Albon also involved in the incident to leave him out of the race after colliding with Sebastian Vettel.
Meanwhile Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri suffered heavy damage after being hit by Albon after the ex-Red Bull ace had spun into the wall.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was also involved in the sickening collision, but he remains in the race.
Thankfully for Guanyu, he was not seriously hurt in the accident with Alfa Romeo declaring that he is OK.
Guanyu was able to be taken out of the car, where he was instantly placed on a stretcher on his way to receive further medical attention, with Williams’ Albon also taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
Williams tweeted: “Alex has been transferred by helicopter to Coventry Hospital for precautionary checks following the opening lap incident. We will provide updates when available.”

The crash came about after Russell was clipped at the back of his Mercedes, with his tyre subsequently hitting Zhou.
His vehicle instantly flipped over where he skidded towards the barriers at a frightening pace.
It then catapulted over the tyre barrier as it smashed into the fence.
His halo undoubtedly prevented serious injury.
It is the second time the halo has potentially helped avoid a fatal incident following Sunday morning’s F2 race.
Dennis Hauger’s car was launched into the air after he connected with a sausage curb on the second lap.
He then flew into Roy Nissany, with the Israeli driver miraculously appearing to avoid injury despite the collision.
Speaking after the crash, Russell told Sky Sports: “Firstly I’m glad to see Zhou is OK after an absolutely horrific incident.
“Ultimately we took a risk starting on the hard because I made a mistake in qualifying and we were starting out of position.

“We thought that risk gave us the best opportunity later in the race, but there was just no grip whatsoever.
“The hardest compound is cold out there and I got swamped by all the cars. Next thing I know I got touched, was in the side of Zhou and that was it.
“I jumped out of the car to asee if Zhou was OK. I saw it was red flagged straight away.
“When I came back to the car I couldn’t quite get it started for whatever reason so I ran back to the team to check.
“I told the marshals to leave the car and when I got back it was on the back of the flatbed. As soon as you get assistance you can’t restart.
“We are trying [to appeal] but they are pretty adamant, the FIA. It’s one of those unique scenarios.” More

A FORMULA 2 driver has survived a life-threatening crash at Silverstone after a car landed on top of him in a horror collision. Dennis Hauger’s car was launched into the air after he connected with a sausage curb on the second lap of this morning’s F2 race.

He then flew into Roy Nissany, with the Israeli driver miraculously appearing to avoid injury despite the collision.
Motorsport fans are thanking the halo for saving Nissany, with the safety device built into the cockpit to protect the head of the driver.
Nissany had been competing with Hauger for position before last season’s F3 champion slid onto the sausage curb and was launched into the air.

Aurea Carolina, Taliria Petrone and Vivi Reis, MPs for the left-wing Socialism and Liberty Party, have lodged a formal complaint with prosecutors in the capital Brasilia.
Petrone, a former teacher who has spent her political career representing Rio de Janeiro, said: “Racism, which structures our society, needs to be fought everywhere.”

Apologising for using the derogatory term while referring to seven-time world champion Hamilton in a podcast interview last year, Piquet said: “What I said was ill-thought out, and I make no defence for it.

“I was only 0.2 seconds behind and I could definitely go quicker than that.
“It makes it a little bit harder tomorrow but still we have a good race car.
“It is not the worst position to start and in the last races would have been super happy but because it is the British GP you are hopeful for something more.
“I was on course for that but we move forward and I will try to pull something special out tomorrow.”
Hamilton has reason to feel optimistic. The last time he wasn’t on the front row of the grid at Silverstone was in 2014, also mixed up because of the rain.

He said: “It was a bit disappointing because I couldn’t really understand.
“If they want to boo, they do it. I’m always happy to be here, it’s a great track, a great atmosphere in general.
“Maybe some of them don’t like me, they’re all entitled to their own opinions. I don’t care.”
But Hamilton says the fans are WRONG to boo his rival and added: “We’re better than that, so I would say we don’t need to boo, but we have such great fans and they feel emotions.
“I don’t agree with booing. We should be here pushing everybody and it doesn’t make any difference if they have already made a mistake or whatever it is.
“I really appreciate the fans I have here and maybe some are still feeling the pain from last year still.”
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Sainz, who will start on pole, said: “It was an emotional first pole position, especially to do it at Silverstone in the wet.
