      Who is Sky Sports F1 presenter Naomi Schiff?

      NAOMI SCHIFF is making waves on the F1 block as she finds herself at the forefront of Sky’s coverage of the sport.The 28-year-old shockingly found herself a target for trolls in recent days after appearing in the paddock at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix earlier this month.

      Trolls questioned her credentials in the sport before Lewis Hamilton jumped to her defence, adding F1 has a “long way to go” to change attitudes.
      The Mercedes star wrote on Twitter: “Naomi is an ex-professional racing driver & totally qualified to give her opinion as part of the Sky team.
      “She’s been a great asset since joining & we should welcome more representative broadcasting with open arms.
      “Still have a long way to go to change these attitudes in sport.”
      Who is Naomi Schiff?
      Born in Antwerp, Belgium, to a Belgian father and Rwandan mother, Schiff grew up in South Africa.
      She started racing at just 16 in the Southern African Formula Volkswagen, finishing her opening season in 17th place.
      She won the 2014 Clio Cup China Series in 2014 with seven wins from ten races.
      Her success earned her a spot in the GT4 European Series the following year, alongside the gruelling 24 Hours of Nurburgring in 2018, widely considered one of the toughest in the world alongside Le Mans.

      In 2019, Schiff joined the W Series, for whom she is diversity and inclusion ambassador, and was a reserve last season.
      F1 fans might have caught their first glimpse of Naomi back in February when she presented the Mercedes team car launch alongside Natalie Pinkham.
      She then appeared as co-host of the new Sky Sports F1 show Any Driven Monday, which is available on YouTube, and joined the 2022 Sky Sports F1 team.
      Yet it was this appearance that first prompted the trolls to voice their opinions, with one writing: “Meet Naomi Schiff, Sky Sports latest Formula 1 commentator. Can you guess what her main qualification for the job is? Hint: It isn’t Formula 1 experience.”

      Schiff responded with three yawning emojis, visibly showing her boredom at such unnecessary abuse.
      After the abuse, and Lewis Hamilton defending her, Schiff posted a statement thanking those who had stuck up for her.
      She wrote on Twitter: “Thank you to everyone who has come to my defence.
      “I appreciate all the love and support, none of you go unnoticed! Sadly the issue of online bullying, bashing, shaming etc. is one I don’t believe is going anywhere anytime soon.

      “Social media, in some cases, gives voices to individuals who don’t deserve to be heard. So I encourage anyone reading this to not indulge in it or retaliate or seek revenge.
      “Remember that your words do have impact and that therefore we should do something positive with these platforms and be kind to one another.”
      Schiff added that she would not “let anyone turn down my ambition or passion because they are uncomfortable with the volume”. More

      MERCEDES Formula One driver George Russell has backed the FIA’s decision to require teams to make adjustments to “reduce” or “eliminate” porpoising.The decision comes after seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton suffered severe back pain during last weekend’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

      A number of other drivers on the grid have also complained about porpoising, raising concerns over driver safety.
      Russell told Sky Sports: “I think everyone thinks this is something Mercedes is pushing for, but from a pure performance side of things, we don’t really want change. 
      “Because if there’s change you never know if it’s going to go for you or against you.
      “We, as drivers, have spoken about this, that we want change moving forward because what we went through last weekend wasn’t sustainable.

      Russell’s comments come after the FIA took the decision to require teams to “make the necessary adjustments to reduce or to eliminate” porpoising.
      A statement read: “The FIA, as the governing body of the sport, has decided that, in the interests of safety, it is necessary to intervene to require that the teams make the necessary adjustments to reduce or to eliminate this phenomenon [of porpoising]. 
      “The FIA has decided to intervene following consultation with its doctors in the interests of safety of the drivers.
      “In a sport where the competitors are routinely driving at speeds in excess of 300km/h (186 mph), it is considered that all of a driver’s concentration needs to be focused on that task and that excessive fatigue or pain experienced by a driver could have significant consequences should it result in a loss of concentration.
      “In addition, the FIA has concerns in relation to the immediate physical impact on the health of the drivers, a number of whom have reported back pain following recent events.”
      Red Bull are one-two in the drivers standings with current F1 champion Max Verstappen leading, followed by team-mate Sergio Perez.
      They’re also leading the constructor standings.
      Red Bull boss Christian Horner says he would tell his drivers to “bitch as much as they could” if they had an issue similar to the one which hurt Hamilton’s back.
      Horner told media after the race that publicly highlighting things like porpoising health issues in F1 is just “part of the game”.
      He says highlighting of these types of issues are typical of the gamesmanship which comes with F1.
      When asked how he would approach a porpoising issue for his drivers at Red Bull, he said: “I’d tell them to bitch as much as they could over the radio and make as big of an issue out of it as they possibly could.

      Hamilton has been struggling with back pain since last weekend’s Azerbaijan GP due to his car’s porpoising issues.
      The Mercedes star has been put through a gruelling recovery regime in a bid to be fit this weekend, but was afforded some time to relax after touching down in Canada.

      The penalty comes after Leclerc implored Ferrari to sort out his issues quickly.
      He said: “It hurts. We really need to look into that for it not to happen again. I can’t really find the right words to describe this.
      “It’s very, very disappointing. I don’t know, we really need to look into it.”
      Ferrari’s problems don’t end with Leclerc though, as teammate Carlos Sainz was a DNF in Baku.
      His vehicle crumbed after a hydraulics problem, which left Sainz fuming.
      He moaned: “That’s the main objective and the team knows this, that we need to improve on this side.
      “But we have been pretty good on reliability on my side but we have just been a bit unlucky the whole season and it has been quite difficult to get any momentum going this season.

      “I cannot do two consecutive races without anything happening and the DNF in lap 9, you need laps and I need laps and to complete races to keep understanding the car.
      “It is a shame but we are a team and we are going to stay united and stay positive because I am sure better days will come.”
      But Ferrari believe they have found a short-term fix for Sainz.
      They tweeted this week: “A challenging weekend for the team, but one that we’ll look to learn and build from.
      “Charles’ engine arrives at the factory tomorrow, an initial assessment should be completed by the evening.
      “Hydraulic components from Carlos’ car have already been examined.
      “A short-term fix is in place for Canada, while work is ongoing on mid/long-term solutions.

      Hamilton is not the only racer struggling with the porpoising issue early in the new era of F1 cars.
      Team-mate George Russell claimed it was only a matter of time before the bouncing caused an accident, as drivers were unable to see where they were going.
      Mercedes boss Toto Wolff even said Hamilton was a doubt for this Sunday’s race in Montreal.
      The sport’s governing body, the FIA, responded by saying they will investigate what is causing some of this year’s cars to bounce up and down violently when the cars hit top speed.

      However, the consequence could be bad news for Hamilton and Russell, as the FIA may impose strict rules to improve driver safety – which also may SLOW their car.
      Mercedes, who have struggled with the bouncing all season, have been trying to lower their car to prevent it from happening.
      But that has since triggered another problem with their car now bottoming out whenever it hits a bump in the road.
      There is a feeling that the FIA could set a limit on ride height, which could see Mercedes forced to increase the height of their car.

      The two drivers with the most GP wins in Canada are Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher with seven wins.

      LEWIS HAMILTON has stepped up his rehab to be fit for this weekend’s Canadian GP as sports chiefs release radical plans to stop his car from bouncing.Hamilton, who arrived at the paddock in Montreal wearing a flowery green outfit, was left with a back injury after last Sunday’s Azerbaijan GP, saying the race was the most painful he had experienced in his 16 year F1 career.

      His Mercedes teammate, George Russell also said it was only a matter of time before the bouncing – or porpoising as it is also known – caused an accident, as drivers were unable to see where they were going.
      Hamilton, who has been having treatment from his right-hand woman, Angela Cullen, posted an image on Instagram and said: “I am forever grateful to have Angela with me on the road, I would be lost without her.
      “We’ve been working each day on stretching, acupuncture and cryotherapy to recover.
      “I’m feeling much better and today I was able to do my first run. Pushing through.”

      It comes after Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said the seven-times F1 world champion was a doubt for this Sunday’s race in Montreal due to the bouncing.
      The sport’s governing body, the FIA, have responded and say they will investigate what is causing some of this year’s cars to bounce up and down violently when the cars hit top speed.
      However, the consequence could be bad news for Hamilton and Russell, as the FIA may impose strict rules to improve driver safety – which also may SLOW their car.
