NELSON PIQUET could face a £1.5million fine after a Brazilian judge ordered an investigation into the three-time Formula 1 champion’s racist and homophobic comments aimed at Lewis Hamilton.The 69-year-old used disgraceful slurs while referencing the British F1 hero during a podcast appearance last November.

His words came to light before the British Grand Prix earlier this month and subsequently saw him barred from the paddock.
According to the Mirror, a human rights group have pressed charges against Piquet – citing “moral damage to black and LGBTQ+ people”.
The Brazilian has apologised for his despicable words, but will now have 15 days to communicate his case to Felipe Costa da Fonseca Gomes of the Distrito Federal court.
Piquet could be ordered to pay £1.5m in damages.

F1 condemned his comments as “unacceptable in any form and has no part in society”.
While Hamilton, 37, said prior to the British GP: “I have been on the receiving end on racism and that negative and archaic narratives and undertones of discrimination.
“I am not sure why we are continuing to give these older people a platform.

“I would never use the word I have been accused of in some translations.

MAX Verstappen wants to renew his bitter rivalry with Lewis Hamilton – but insists the two racers do respect each other. The gradual improvement of Mercedes has seen them pull closer to Red Bull after their early season struggles.

The pace disparity between the two teams means F1 fans have not seen much of Verstappen and Hamilton racing alongside each other this season.
This is in complete contrast to last year when the pair scrapped for the Driver’s Championship in a bitter and explosive feud.
But the 24-year-old believes Mercedes are on the way back and can see himself going wheel-to-wheel with Hamilton again.

“We are, of course, not fighting with Mercedes at the moment.
“I think it will be different if we fight each other again. Maybe at the end of the season. We’ll see. [Hamilton and I] have a lot of respect for each other. If someone does well, you can of course just say that to each other.

“The Silver Arrows, prodigiously strong for the past decade, built a car with the all-new regulations that seems to have some fundamental flaws. Its level of bouncing has meant the team have been chasing their tail trying to troubleshoot their problems.
“Incredibly, given the performance of their car, the team have still managed to finish a race weekend on the podium more often than not so far.”

Palmer added: “In fact, while Mercedes have been picking up podiums that their pace hasn’t necessarily deserved thanks to their bulletproof reliability, it has also highlighted another quirk of 2022: only Lando Norris has secured a podium outside of the top six so far this year with his drive at Imola – Mercedes’ most absent race of the season.
“There are signs now, though, that they are getting on top of it and are merging back towards being genuine front-runners once more.
“It’s better to look at Hamilton’s race pace for the genuine pace of the Merc in Austria, and once again it looked on Sunday to be a fairly close match to the dominant Ferrari of Charles Leclerc after the seven-time champ hit clear air. This is why he managed to overcut a string of midfielders.
