‘What a f***ing joke’ – Eddie Hearn hits back at ‘disgusting’ claims about Anthony Joshua’s career

EDDIE HEARN fumed at Anthony Joshua being urged to retire. American author Thomas Hauser – who penned several acclaimed books on Muhammad Ali – wrote a Guardian column directed at AJ.
Anthony Joshua with promoter Eddie HearnCredit: Rex
It was headlined “The bravest thing Anthony Joshua can do is retire from boxing.”
And Hauser pleaded with the two-time heavyweight world champion to walk away with his health intact and fortune secured aged 33.
But the piece has disgusted Joshua’s promoter Hearn, who hit out at the article and any suggestion of AJ retiring.
He told Boxing Social: “What a f***ing joke. I’m just gonna say it, Thomas Hauser needs to retire, he’s so far detached from reality.

“He doesn’t know Anthony Joshua – he’s hardly even had a conversation with him.
“Has he ever watched him in the gym or sat down and spoken to him?
“I just find it absolutely bizarre that you can lose a split decision to Oleksandr Usyk, come back and win nearly every round against Jermaine Franklin and then it’s “you have to retire now”.
“What the f*** are these people talking about? Thomas Hauser is a disgrace for writing that. Honestly I found that article disgusting.”

Joshua beat Franklin, 29, on points in his April return following consecutive losses to Usyk, 36.
And super-fights against Deontay Wilder, 37, and Tyson Fury, 34, now lie in wait after AJ got back to winnings ways.
But before his confidence-building comeback bout, Joshua did hint retirement is round the corner as he eyes another title before bailing out.
He said: “This run is like, what can it go on for? Three, four years?
“If I was going to do another run after this, you’re talking about fighting into my forties and I truly believe that boxing’s a young man’s sport.
“It takes a real solid character like Bernard Hopkins, Foreman, Klitschko, Povetkin to go on into their forties and stuff, but I think this is a run I want to make successful and then, you know, hopefully go out on top.”

Anthony Joshua warned fighting Deontay Wilder could cause him ‘DAMAGE’ as Lennox Lewis makes brutal prediction

LENNOX LEWIS has urged Anthony Joshua to avoid any “DAMAGE” in a warning against fighting Deontay Wilder. Joshua is in line to face Wilder in December in Saudi Arabia following positive talks between the camps.

It would finally bring an end to years of debate after failed talks for the pair to fight in the past.
But British boxing legend Lewis believes AJ is best off leaving the bout on the shelf – for his own good.
Lewis, 57, told ESNEWS: “Joshua against Wilder? Definitely Wilder.
“Wilder’s got that thing in him where he wants to hurt you and I’ve seen it every time he throws that right hand, he’s trying to damage you with that right hand. He’s throws it with intention.”

Joshua, 33, beat Jermaine Franklin, 29, in his April return in what Eddie Hearn hoped would be the first in a trio bouts in 2023.
But that plan faced the KO when organisers in the Middle East launched negotiations for AJ to face Wilder, 37, at the end of the year.

Hearn flew into Riyadh for talks and revealed all parties are on board for the blockbuster bout.
But with Joshua having fought just once under his trainer Derrick James, the promoter wants to give the pair more opportunity to gel.

Hearn told Boxing Social: “We’re being told that Wilder’s in.
“And, subject to finalising some of the terms, we’re in. So, in his mind, he’s fighting Deontay Wilder in December.

I started working as a bouncer as boxing career faltered but now face Canelo Alvarez in Mexico for world titles

JOHN RYDER will complete a remarkable journey from working as a bouncer to challenging for Canelo Alvarez’s world titles. Ryder fights for boxing’s biggest crown on Saturday night in Guadalajara, in what marks Canelo’s Mexican homecoming.

The British outsider fights for the undisputed WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO super-middleweight titles in front of 50,000 at the Estadio Akron stadium.
It comes after a career resurgence – with eight wins in his last nine – earning a mandatory shot at Canelo’s title.
But at one point, following defeats to Jack Arnfield and Rocky Fielding at domestic level, Londoner Ryder considered his boxing career.
So much so that in 2017 he got a doorman’s license and worked at a nightclub in East London.

Ryder, 34, told ESPN: “There were some dark times when I thought that this might be it.
“I think I had that dogged determination in me to carry on, and I believe I can do good things in this sport.
“I think the proof is in the pudding, I have done, and I was right to continue.
“My sponsor sorted me out a doorman’s licence and I was doing quite a bit of that on the doors with a few friends.

“That was nice, and it was more the social aspect of it. Boxing is so closed off; you work so hard in the gym, so to work on the door every now and again was quite a nice break.
“It was long hours, not ideal for boxing, but the odd Friday night here and there was good fun.”
The club was around the corner from ex-middleweight champion Darren Barker’s 12×3 gym.
So Ryder would train before heading to his shift but fortunately ran into no trouble during his time on the doors.
He said: “There were no hotheads – they were all cool, calm and collected.
“You had your talkers on the door who could calm down situations. I was never at the forefront getting stuck in. I just kept the peace.”
By 2019, Ryder was boxing full-time and made his Las Vegas debut, stopping Bilal Akkawy in three rounds.

The same year, he lost a controversial decision to Callum Smith for the WBC title, in a bout many believed he won.
Ryder, who is a 10-1 shot to win on Saturday, recalled: “2019 was a great year for me; I got to box in Vegas then I had the Smith fight.
“People see it as a bad thing [losing by a disputed decision to Smith], but I got a lot of credit from it. I still think I should have won.
“I had a lot of momentum, and momentum is what I thrive on. I was all set for a big 2020, looking to get off to a flier, and then COVID hit.
“There were big fights planned for 2021. It was a nightmare two years.”
Ryder bounced back from defeat to Smith with four wins in a row, most recently beating Zach Parker, 28, in November.
It earned him the WBO interim title and guaranteed shot at Canelo’s unified belts.

KSI says his Prime drinks company is already competing with billion dollar rivals and reveals big secret behind success

KSI says his Prime drinks company is already competing with their billion dollar rivals after some magnificent marketing. The YouTube sensation in 2021 launched the product with former boxing opponent-turned business partner and friend Logan Paul.

The drink has caused a craze since its releaseCredit: Darren Fletcher
It has since launched a craze, especially with fans in the UK who have quite literally fought to get their hands on the beverage.
Paul in February claimed Prime made $250million (£209m) in retail sales in their first year and $45m (£35m) in just January alone.
So KSI is confident they are already equal to their competitors, who have been on the shelves for decades.
He told SunSport: “I think we’re already competing quite well with Gatorade and all these other drink brands, Lucozade Sport etc.”
    READ MORE ON KSI
KSI, 29, and Paul, 28, are rarely seen without a can or bottle of Prime in their hands.
They have closed mega sponsorship deals with the likes of the UFC and Arsenal and paraded the brand at worldwide events.
And KSI credits their incredible visibility for the stunning splash they have had since hitting the market only 18 months ago.
He said: “With us it’s all about marketing, man. We just know events, big occasions is what helps sell Prime.

“When you think of Prime, you think of me and Logan at WrestleMania or me when I’m fighting Temper or me fighting at the O2, two fights in one night.
“These big events constantly, the UFC, Arsenal, the Dodgers baseball. These are the huge things that people think of when they think of Prime.
“And when they want to try and get Prime it’s always sold out.
“It’s always hard to find and if you do find it, it’s always at a stupid price because people are increasing the the price of it because the demand is so high etc.

“That’s just what we’ve created, we’ve created this brand that’s just high-tier and we’ve had to put in the work to make that happen.
“We work on marketing all the time, me and Logan are just constantly promoting Prime, we could easily have just promoted it at the beginning and just gone, ‘OK, we’ll settle with that.’
“But nah, we just keep on going, keep going, keep pushing the envelope and that’s just what makes the brand so exciting.”

KSI makes his return to the ring on May 13 against millionaire nightclub tycoon-turned 9-0 boxer Joe Fournier, 40.
It will be the toughest challenge in his crossover boxing career, which has consisted of five wins and one draw.
KSI said: “He wanted it the most, he was gagging for it.
“Even after I knocked out Temper, he was there in the ring being like, ‘Yeah, I want that fight.’
“Even when I was doing my interviews, he was there like, ‘Fight me. I want it, I want it.’

The Gypsy King bought the eight-bed mansion in Cheshire last year for an unknown price
He then applied to have it demolished in order to replace it with a modern mansion complete with a new pool.
But a nature report spotted two species of bats nesting in the property’s loft meaning Fury would have have had to secure a special licence.
This would have involved putting bat boxes in nearby trees for the common and soprano pipistrelles, but the 34-year-old changed tack.
Fury then reapplied to extensively modernise the dilapidated building and outhouses, which are currently in place.

The home needs a big overhaul as Google Maps currently shows it looking like a dumping ground for used cars.
Waste and scrubland on the plot is strewn with litter.
Tyson and wife Paris plan to renovate the basement, add on two side extensions and an eight-metre rear extension.
Meanwhile a new building will house a four-car garage, swimming pool and other ‘leisure facilities’ including a hot tub.

And the basement will feature a music room, games room, garden room and home cinema.
In a design statement, Fury’s planning agent said the facilities were “incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house”.
The Furys, a family of eight, currently live in a £1.7 million mansion in Morecambe.
But the new Styal house is closer to brother Tommy and Love Island girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague, who live nearby in a £3.5m mansion with new baby Bambi.

A punch from Canelo Alvarez is like ‘being hit with a baseball bat’ because of special gloves, Amir Khan claims

AMIR KHAN revealed Canelo Alvarez’s punches are like ‘being hit with a baseball bat’ due to the Mexican wearing thin but legally padded gloves.Khan, 36, jumped from welterweight to challenge for Canelo’s WBC middleweight title in 2016 – despite the fight taking place at a catchweight 155lb, below the usual 160lb limit.
Amir Khan revealed Canelo Alvarez’s punches are like ‘being hit with a baseball bat’
Khan was brutally knocked out in round six by Canelo during their bout in 2016Credit: Reuters
The Bolton star raced to an early lead against the significantly bigger Alvarez, before being brutally knocked out in round six with a devastating right hand.
But he since claimed Canelo’s choice of gloves, the Everlast MX, contributed to the knockout.
The 2004 Olympic silver medallist admitted he would not be able to wear the gloves because his hands are too brittle, though he would have had the choice to as the Nevada State Athletic Commission deemed them perfectly fine to wear.
Khan, who opted to wear a different type of Everlast glove, told FightHype: “Every glove is different. When I fought Canelo, he had the Everlast horsehair gloves on.

“When I put my hand in, it was like pushing to the wall, but you’re going to damage your hand as well.
“They were solid. It was like being hit with a baseball bat.
“The foam padding ones, the shape always stays the same. With the horsehair, it fades more towards the back of the hand.
“So that way, your knuckles are more visible. Without padding in the way, that’s going to put more pressure on your knuckle.
“So you’re going to be hit with a bare hand. I could never do that because my hands aren’t strong enough to do that.
“I’d break my hand if I fought like that. Some fighters have the hands where they could punch through a wall and wouldn’t break their hands.”

Floyd Mayweather famously refused to fight Argentinian puncher Marcos Maidana due to the custom Everlast MX gloves he picked to wear in their first bout in 2014. Mayweather got his way and former Khan opponent Maidaa was forced to pick a different pair.
Khan admitted a boxer’s choice of tools can be a telltale for what their gameplan could be in the fight, indicating a pair of Cleto Reyes, for example, could suggest the boxer is aiming for a knockout.
He explained: “When you’re fighting someone, and you know they’re wearing a certain glove, you know what their game plan is.
“You’ve got guys that aren’t really punchers, and they’re going to wear the smaller Reyes gloves. You think this guy is going to try and knock you out.
“I’m going to have to be smart in this fight and be prepared.
“Then you’ve got Canelo, who is wearing the MX gloves, and they’ve got nothing in them. I knew that he was just looking for that one big shot. You know the mentality from the type of gloves they’re wearing.”
Khan announced his retirement in 2022, after a brutal defeat to long-time rival Kell Brook.
It was later revealed that he had failed a drug test after the fight, and is currently serving a two-year ban from the sport. More
