Anthony Joshua could make U-turn on plan to make boxing return in December and be back sooner, says Barry Hearn

ANTHONY JOSHUA could make a U-turn on his planned boxing return having revealed he will sit out until December. AJ returned with a victory at the start of April over 12 rounds against Jermaine Franklin, following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Promoter Eddie Hearn hoped it would be the first in a hat-trick of 2023 bouts to keep the two-time heavyweight champion busy.
But days later, Joshua posted on Instagram: “My next fight is scheduled for December.
“Not ideal but everything is part of a bigger picture.”
Despite the shock revelation, Hearn’s Hall of Fame father Barry warned not to rule out a change of plan.

He told Joe: “Firstly, I think there were a few misquotes about he’s not boxing until December. He’s thinking about not boxing until December.
“I love Anthony but he’s on holiday at the moment, He’s having a good time. He spends his life in training camps.
“When you’re having a good time, you like to carry on having a good time, but I know Anthony a bit better than that.
    “I won’t be a 100 per cent surprised to see a U-turn on that.”

Joshua, 33, is currently enjoying time off in Dubai, before planning a trip back to Texas for more training under new coach Derrick James.
It comes amid rumours of a fight against Deontay Wilder, 37, in December in Saudi Arabia.
And Tyson Fury, 34, would also face Usyk, 36, with the winners of the two bouts meeting in a proposed tournament.
It would tie into Joshua’s plan to wait till the end of the year to fight following his comeback victory against American Franklin, 29.

Tyson Fury’s team open door to biggest tournament in boxing history involving Anthony Joshua

TYSON FURY’S team have opened the door to a sensational four-man tournament involving the heavyweight division’s biggest stars. TalkSPORT’s outspoken sports pundit Simon Jordan claimed Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Oleksandr Usyk and Fury would be involved in a series of fights.

It would see AJ face Wilder with Fury against Usyk, both in December in Saudi Arabia, allowing the winners to meet in a final.
George Warren, the son of Fury’s UK promoter Frank, has not ruled out the stunning idea but admitted no talks have yet materialised.
He told iFL TV: “It would be amazing, wouldn’t it? But it’s speculation at the moment.
“As far as I’m concerned, we’ve not had any formal offer or communication that is something that is there to be done.

“What we always say, we get a lot of attention and interest for Tyson, not just from UK opportunities but from around the world.
“When people get in touch, the usual way we deal with it is just to say, ‘Great, put an offer down, put it in writing. Send us some date options, tell us what the plan is and what you’re looking at doing, the finances involved and we can go through there and address it as a team.’
“Tyson is the decision-maker, but certainly, if there’s an opportunity, we’re happy to look at it.
Warren added: “At this moment in time, we’ve not had an offer for anything.

“But if one was to come in, it will remain private, it would be discussed, and we’ll go from there.”
Joshua, 33, beat Jermaine Franklin, 29, on points over 12 rounds in his return fight at the start of April.
Wilder, 37, meanwhile has been out since October when he knocked out Robert Helenius, 39, in round one of his comeback bout.
Fury, 34, is now without an opponent after his deal to unify all four belts with Usyk, 36, collapsed.
Terms were scrapped amid a row over financials for a potential rematch, leaving both in the lurch.
Tyson is the decision-maker, but certainly, if there’s an opportunity, we’re happy to look at it. George Warren on proposed tournament in Saudi Arabia
Usyk has since been ordered into a mandatory WBA title defence against Daniel Dubois, 25, with talks ongoing.
And Fury is left to seal a return fight in the summer, which promoter Bob Arum revealed could be against Andy Ruiz Jr, 33.
And Warren added: “Andy Ruiz stopped Anthony Joshua, is a former world champion.
“I don’t think the performance in the rematch when he fought out in Saudi Arabia was Andy Ruiz’s best performance, but he’s had solid wins since then.
“I’m not focusing on who the opponent is at the moment for Tyson. The first step is to speak with Tyson, which we’ll do next week.
“We’ll find out what he wants to do. Does he want to be active? Does he want to fight? Does he want to do a UK stadium fight?
“If he does, then again, we’ll assess who is available and look at all the different opponents and anyone that wants to fight Tyson.

The star said it came from a clash of heads in sparring in his new YouTube video today…Credit: YouTube – @ksi
Ahead of that clash, he appeared on the latest episode of his Sidemen show to promote the bout.
However, the man with 16.2 million followers on social media already looked like he had received a hefty beating as he sported a swollen eye and bust lip.
Laughing at the start of the video, KSI said: “Yo, what’s up? It’s your boy KSI… mind the eye.
“I got it during sparring. Just a clash of heads.”

But that does not seem to be deterring the fighter as he insisted his training for the bout could not be better.
KSI, real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji, said: “Training camp is going well.
“Obviously I took a little break. I felt like it was good for me.
“I felt like I was really able to step back and reflect on my whole life, my whole situation because I feel like I’ve just been going at a hundred miles an hour in general especially this year.”

He added: “So much has happened I still haven’t taken in that I knocked out Temperrr in the first round, like, I wasn’t able to take that whole moment, you know, me fighting at Wembley Arena and everyone going crazy and everything.
“Everything has just moved and I’ve just done so many things after that, that I haven’t been able to just settle and take it all in.”
Earlier this month KSI and Fournier, 40, clashed on stage at a heated press conference ahead of their bout at the Misfits Boxing event in London.
Fournier double-handed shoved KSI – real name in the chest.
KSI refrained from reacting to the push, remaining calm and opting instead to continue to stare down the British businessman.
Prior to landing the first physical blow of their rivalry, a fired-up Fournier roared: “At the end of the day I am coming to take the guy’s whole legacy.
“I’m here to be the new face of Misfits. I want to have a scrap with the guy.
“The guy made his career playing FIFA. He beats me at FIFA but this isn’t FIFA.
“This is us standing there 18lb, 10oz gloves and he talks about explosive and power but it is all relative.
“David Haye didn’t knock me out so I would like to trade with him and I want it to be a fight that goes down in history.

“I want him to be the best he can be I don’t want me to walk all over him in 40 seconds, like I think is going to happen.”
KSI responded with his own jibes, but it was his apology for using a racial slur in a recently-aired YouTube video which dominated the presser. More

I’m Britain’s hardest working boxer.. I climb mountains, run marathons and work as a roofer on my days off

SAM NOAKES might be Britain’s hardest working boxer – but only after he walked out of his first two jobs after ONE shift. The Maidstone lightweight – whose 10-0 record is built on a perfect 10/10 KO rate – has always been a fitness fanatic, conquering mountains and marathons on his days off from training.

But the 25-year-old could not match that commitment in his first two careers and jacked in a couple of earners without even getting paid.
The proud mummy’s boy – who still lives at home for the expert cooking and laundry on offer – told SunSport: “My first job after school was in a call centre, I went in with good intentions, gave it a go and never went back for the second day.
“I wasn’t fussy, the next job was McDonald’s, another full shift but couldn’t face going back and didn’t even get paid.
“In the end I got a job as a roofer, ten times harder than both of those jobs, outside and physically demanding but I loved it and I stuck to that right up until recently when my sponsorship deals allowed me to train full-time.

“But even in the summer now, if my old boss has a big job on, or if I am waiting around for a fight, I will go back and do a month or so on site with the boys, show them what I can still do.
“It’s the same with the running and mountains, if I wasn’t a boxer I would still be doing them with my mates, so I just squeeze them in around fights.”
Noakes reckons the only pre-boxing career he clicked with might be responsible for his freakish power and frightening nickname.
The Kent Golovkin – named after Kazakh KO king Gennady – believes the knockout power he has shown in both hands has come from lugging slates, tiles and cladding up and down ladders all day and trying to match the bigger blokes on the firm.

Ahead of his Saturday Commonwealth title defence against Karthik Kumar, he laughed: “I remember being on jobs and there was always a bit of competition about who could carry what.
“And I remember the bigger lads telling me to go easy and leave the big loads to them.
“I wouldn’t stand for that though and always managed to match them, even though it was a serious struggle early on.
“They would ask if I was okay and I would be straining so much that I could just about manage to whisper a ‘yep’.
“So I can’t pinpoint where the power has come from for sure, but those tough days must have helped.”

Behind most boxers there is a story of woe or hardship but it’s refreshing to get nothing but smiles and boy-next-door charm from Noakes, whose mum has been the driving force behind his early success.
“I’m not a complex fella,” he likes to say. “There ain’t too much going upstairs for anyone to worry about.
“What you see is what you get with me.
“My mum and dad split up when I was young but they have always remained friends and supported me in everything I have done.
