Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois fight date announced for surprise venue with fans baffled at Frank Warren

Fans have been left surprised by the choice of location which was entirely in the control of Usyk’s camp.
But that is currently the plan of the Ukrainian after his promoter, Alex Krassyuk, won the purses bid.
One baffled fan said: “Out of all places Poland?”
Others have suggested the location made sense given the difficulty of holding a fight in Ukraine given the ongoing war.
    READ MORE BOXING NEWS
It is set to be Usyk’s first fight since last August when he beat Anthony Joshua for the second time to retain his heavyweight belts.
The 36-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant rise to the top of his weight division and holds a 20-0 record.
He will be the favourite to triumph over Brit boxer Dubois, whose only defeat came against Joe Joyce in 2020.
Triple D has otherwise won all 19 of his other fights, with his last victory coming against Kevin Lerena in December last year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Reports have also suggested that the fighters will be taking home very different pay packets after the clash.
According to respected boxing journalist Dan Rafael there will be a 75/25 split in the fight purses.
It means Usyk is set to pocket just short of £5m while Dubois will take home around £1.6m.
The potential fight comes months after the negotiations for an undisputed bout between Usyk and Fury fell apart.
Between them the pair hold all of the belts in the heavyweight division and fans had been licking their lips at the prospect of seeing them in the ring together.
But after much social media name-calling, the negotiations came to nothing.
If Usyk beats Dubois, speculation is likely to begin again. More

He hasn’t faced anyone like Beterbiev, however, and he has to do so on away soil in Canada.

Ring-walks for the main event will likely get going from 4am UK time on Sunday, August 20.
The fight will be held at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Smith vs Beterbiev will be shown live on Sky Sports Arena and Main Event in the UK.
You can live stream the action from the NOW TV or Sky Go app, both of which are available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.

    What has been said?
But Smith warned: “I’m no stranger to fighting on away soil, having boxed in Saudi Arabia twice, across America, and now heading to Canada on August 19.
“There was no hesitation from me going to Canada to fight Artur Beterbiev, and I will be returning to Liverpool as a world champion once more.
“I’m excited to finally get my opportunity to become a two-weight world champion.”
Beterbiev added: “When you are world champion, everyone wants the opportunity to take your belt, and that’s especially true in my case, with three titles at stake.
“I’ve already started my training camp, and I’ll be ready to not only defend my belts, but to also put on an impressive show August 19 [local time].” More

Anthony Joshua next fight date revealed with Brit set for huge rematch against old rival

ANTHONY JOSHUA is set for an August 12 return with Dillian Whyte in line for a rematch. Promoter Eddie Hearn has been in negotiations for a December super-fight in Saudi Arabia against Deontay Wilder.

But no official offer has yet been made from the mega-rich backers in the Middle East.
And, with Joshua, 33, having just one fight under his new coach Derrick James, Hearn is eager to keep the newly formed pair busy.
Whyte, 34, has long been mentioned as an option for Joshua’s return, despite the Saudis preferring him to wait out for Wilder.
And Hearn may have let slip that they will press on with a summer fight when running down Matchroom’s list of upcoming shows.

He told Boxing Social: “We’ve got May 27th, we’ve got June 10, we’ve got July 1st. We’re probably going to go July 29 as well.
“AJ’s probably fighting August 12th. It’s the summer period and we’re smashing out shows left, right and centre.”
Joshua beat Jermaine Franklin in his comeback bout in April, following consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
And Whyte then emerged as the frontrunner for AJ’s next fight, until shock talks to make the blockbuster bout with Wilder in the desert.

Whyte – knocked out by Joshua in 2015 – questioned his old rival’s confidence.
He told SunSport: “Fans must be getting p***ed off because people are promising and pushing for these fights and then bottling it when they are close to happening.
“Lots of big fights don’t happen, it’s annoying but people see it coming and have to accept it.
“Inactivity is killing the sport and it needs a shake-up. I am waiting for my next fight and was meant to fight Joshua after Jermaine Franklin.
“Joshua and his team told everybody, ‘The winner of Whyte and Franklin fights AJ’ – and then they boxed the loser.
“But anyone who sees Joshua sitting around for nine months waiting for a Wilder cash-out will see a team that has lost its bottle.”

Conor McGregor calls Jake Paul a ‘DONKEY’ and reveals fight prediction between YouTube star and ex-UFC rival Nate Diaz

CONOR McGREGOR has backed old UFC rival Nate Diaz in his boxing match against “DONKEY” Jake Paul. Diaz crosses over to the ring for the first time on August 5 in Texas against YouTuber-turned prizefighter Paul.

It came after he walked out on the UFC, where he had two classic bouts with McGregor.
And it seems there is no hard feelings for the Irishman, who is tipping Diaz to beat Paul.
He told Matchroom Boxing’s YouTube channel: “I fancy him for it.
“He’s a donkey that guy, the other cat, but a donkey has kick, so you’ve got to be weary of that.
    READ MORE ON MCGREGOR
“But, Nate will be peppering him, he’ll hit his face in and it will be Nate.”
Paul, 26, suffered his first ever defeat in February, losing a split-decision to celebrity boxing rival Tommy Fury, 24, in Saudi Arabia.
But he snubbed a rematch to instead focus on Diaz, 38, who was a free agent after his UFC contract expired.
It leaves a trilogy decider with McGregor, 34, up in the air but the former two-weight champion still has admiration Diaz and brother Nick, 39.

He said: “Yeah, yeah, [the relationship] is competitive, but it’s always been respect.
“It’s always been respect, how could you not respect the Diaz brothers and their resume in the fight game.
“Real fighters, what’s his promotion? Real fighters inc, fair play to him. You know, he’s a great fighter.
“I spent, how many minutes did I spend in the octagon with him? 40 minutes, over half an hour.
“Around 40 minutes inside the cage with the lad, it’s always going to be respect off of that.
“And he gave the rematch instantly. That’s commendable, that’s real warrior stuff. So, for sure, I’m happy to see that respect, you know.”
