Top ten pound-for-pound British boxers revealed by BoxRec with Tyson Fury at SECOND and Anthony Joshua not in top five

TYSON FURY is NOT Britain’s pound-for-pound best boxer – and Anthony Joshua doesn’t even make the top five. That’s according to website BoxRec whose algorithm rates records of professional and amateur boxers.

They instead have former light-middleweight Liam Smith, 34, as the country’s No1 off the back of his January win over Chris Eubank Jr.
It leaves unbeaten heavyweight champion Fury, 34, trailing in second as he looks to fight again having been out since December.
Leigh Wood is up to third after he regained the WBA featherweight title in his rematch with Mauricio Lara.
But Josh Taylor has sunk to fifth after he suffered defeat for the first time, in New York to American Teofimo Lopez.

Anthony Joshua, 33, is sixth in front of undefeated super-featherweight champ Joe Cordina.
Following defeat to Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez in Guadalajara, John Ryder comes in at No8.
On the cusp of a title shot, Jack Catterall is at No9 with Eubank squeaking in to top ten.
The middleweight saw his rematch with Smith shelved after the Liverpudlian suffered an injury.

And despite talks to reschedule for September, there are also efforts in the background for Eubank to fight Conor Benn in Abu Dhabi.
Benn failed a series of pre-fight drug tests in the initial October 157 catchweight clash.
And he is fighting to clear his name with UK Anti-Doping in a bid to be re-licensed in Britain.

Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder Saudi super-fight could be ‘signed off’ within the next two weeks, Eddie Hearn says

EDDIE HEARN said Anthony Joshua’s super-fight in Saudi Arabia against Deontay Wilder could be signed off within two weeks. The pair of heavyweight stars have been in talks for a December blockbuster in the Middle East.

Joshua, 33, has twice boxed in Saudi before, beating Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019 but losing to Oleksandr Usyk last August.
So promoter Eddie Hearn has no doubt Prince Khalid’s Skill Challenge Entertainment will deliver on the mega-money fight.
He told the DAZN Boxing show: “When Prince Khalid and those guys tell me it’s done, it’s happening, I believe them.
“I didn’t believe them at first for the Andy Ruiz fight but I quickly realised that these guys are real.

“We hope to get, contractually, everything signed off in the next one-to-two weeks.”
Wilder, 37, has not returned since knocking out Robert Helenius, 39, in round one of his October comeback bout.
But Joshua did bounce back with victory over Jermaine Franklin, 29, in April which followed after consecutive losses to Usyk, 36.
It was his first under coach Derrick James and Hearn wants AJ to have one more fight with the American before facing Wilder.

Talks were progressing with Dillian Whyte, 35, for a rematch of the grudge match Joshua won in 2015.
But Hearn admitted the fight faces the KO over a financial demands.
He said: “I don’t think it will be Dillian Whyte.
“I just think talking about money and trying to find some middle ground, it’s difficult.
“Obviously [Whyte] has his perceived value in that fight, we have the number that we think is right, obviously AJ wants to get paid.
“It’s very difficult. I just don’t think financially – being completely honest – we can reach a deal with Dillian Whyte for that fight.”

He posted a series of pictures alongside his brother with the caption: “12 hard rounds in the bag.”

He took a clip of Fury’s exhibition bout against Rolly Lambert last year and wrote: “12 “hard” rounds.”
Fury, 24, beat Jake Paul, 26, by split-decision in their celebrity grudge match in February in Saudi Arabia.

But Paul snubbed a rematch to instead return on August 5 in Texas against ex-UFC fighter Nate Diaz, 38.
So Fury has turned his attention to KSI, 30, who revealed talks are progressing between them.
He told his Misfits Boxing YouTube channel: “I am training for that fight.
“Negotiations are going back and forth, we’re just waiting on Tommy essentially.

The tattoo artists took a look at some of the designs and got to work as Paul went under.
It is a method which uses “anaesthetics with qualified medical personnel that is specially prepared for this type of work environment”.
The pieces of artwork were inked onto his arms, legs and feet and Paul seemed happy with the finished look.
Ganga Tattoo shared a video of Paul’s experience, alongside the caption: “Jake Paul stopped by for his first No Pain session with the best team in the world.

    Another wrote: “Soft boy s***.”
A third added: “No surprise this wimp opted for this.”
Paul is preparing to face former UFC star Nate Diaz in the boxing ring on August 5.
And he confirmed earlier this week that the bout – which is taking place in Dallas – will be a 10-round contest.
Former Disney star Paul, who lost to Tommy Fury last time out, has shown signs of fatigue in the latter rounds during his brief professional career.
But he doesn’t mind stacking the odds against himself in his must-win ring return.
The Problem Child said: “If the fight goes to the later rounds, it’s obviously a big advantage for Nate.

He said: “We’re coming and we’re bringing pain with us. We’re bringing a whole lot of pain.
“Keep tuned, big announcement coming, I know I’ve said it a few times now but I’m very excited. It’s here, it’s landed.”

Fury, 34, has been left in the lurch after talks to unify the division with Oleksandr Usyk broke down earlier in the year.
And the WBC champion has not been able to find an opponent to return against in the meantime.
He claimed the UFC had offered him a “hybrid” fight against heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
And boxing bosses in Saudi Arabia have hinted at making another offer to face Usyk, this time at the end of the year.
It comes after the Ukrainian pound-for-pound star signed with Skill Challenge Entertainment in Saudi.
Fury said on Foxify Trade Twitter Spaces: “I would love to fight Usyk for the undisputed titles.
Keep tuned, big announcement coming, I know I’ve said it a few times now but I’m very excited. It’s here, it’s landed.Tyson Fury
“But at the minute Usyk is running like a cheater, he is running so fast, he can’t get away from me quick enough.
“The only reason this fight hasn’t happened is Usyk wants more bags, he wants more money.
“So, I don’t blame him for that because at the end of the day it’s a short career and it’s a business.
“So, it’s not a personal thing of ‘I hate Usyk’ or ‘oh my god Usyk didn’t fight me’, for whatever reasons. This is strictly business.
“Usyk is waiting for the big money, the £100million he’s going to get from the Saudis for a fight in November or whenever it’s going to happen.

“So, I can’t hold it against him. I know he’s a family man and he’s got mouths to feed, so I wish him luck, it’s not personal, it’s a sport for one and a business for two.
“But, when we do finally meet, I’m going to annihilate him, that’s a fact.”

Shamed heavyweight Jarrell Miller to be offered as Anthony Joshua’s next opponent after Dillian Whyte rematch collapses

JARRELL MILLER is to be offered as an opponent for Anthony Joshua after talks to rematch Dillian Whyte collapsed. AJ and Whyte were in negotiations to fight on August 12 but Eddie Hearn has come out to say the deal has broken down.

So promoter Dmitriy Salita will put forward shamed heavyweight Miller, 34, as an alternative for Joshua, according to Sky Sports.
The American blew the chance to challenge AJ for the world titles in 2019 following a disgraceful drugs scandal.
Miller blamed the failed tests on a tainted supplement and stem cell shots in his elbow.
He then received a contract with Bob Arum’s Top Rank stable but again tested positive for a banned substance.

This time the former kickboxer put it down to a SEX PILL and was handed a two-year suspension.
After serving the ban, Miller did enrol in VADA testing which saw his licence in Las Vegas reinstated.
He has returned in four bouts since and one exhibition on Floyd Mayweather’s undercard, where he called out Tyson Fury, 34.
Joshua, 33, is looking to return in the summer in preparation for a super-fight in Saudi Arabia against Deontay Wilder, 37.

He told Boxing Social: “[Agit Kabayel] may be on a long list.
“Anyone in the top fifteen. I don’t mind being honest – AJ’s going to fight Deontay Wilder in December. That’s our 100 per cent focus.
