      Netflix in major sports streaming grab as huge boxing fight ‘could be snapped up’ after historic first live show

      NETFLIX is reportedly considering stepping into the boxing steaming service ring.The streaming company is set to start showing live sporting events with “The Netflix Cup” on November 14.

      The tournament is a golf competition featuring athletes from its documentaries “Drive to Survive” and “Full Swing”.
      The company has now discussed featuring a boxing fight that will include YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul, according to the Wall Street Journal.
      The report claims that there would also be a bout between fighters from Premier Boxing Champions – which is a show on Paramount’s Showtime.
      Premier Boxing Champions features stars such as middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez and is looking for a new home after it was dropped by Paramount.

      It is also suggested that the company’s executives have debated this move for years.
      However, talks of adding a boxing match to the streaming service’s programming are still at a “very early stage” and may not happen.
      If Netflix was to make the choice and enter sports broadcasting, it join the likes of Amazon Prime, which shows events from the likes of the Premier League.
      Netflix is said to have resisted the move in the past due to the rising costs of sports broadcasting rights.

      In January, co-Chief Executive Ted Sarandos said: “We aren’t anti-sports, we’re pro-profit.”
      Sarandos then suggested that the stance could change, which led to the promotion of “The Netflix Cup”.
      Netflix has often made shows in the sports world with documentary series such as “Sunderland ‘Til I Die” and “Beckham”.
      Paul’s fights will be up for grabs after his next two fights which will be shown on DAZN.

      British boxing star Connor Coghill forced to retire after suffering bleed on brain a week after horror KO defeat

      BRITISH boxer Connor Coghill has been forced to retire after suffering a bleed on the brain.The 28-year-old was on the undercard for Leigh Wood’s bout with Josh Warrington on October 7.

      He lost his WBA continental belt to Hopey Price after a 12th round technical knockout defeat in Sheffield.
      But the following week he complained of headaches and was admitted to hospital, where a scan discovered a bleed on his brain.
      Coghill’s trainer, Stefy Bull, released a statement to give fans an update on his condition two weeks ago.
      It read: “Connor has had headaches since his boxing contest last week in Sheffield.

      “Obviously it’s devastating news for Connor as boxing has been his life since a young age.
      “He’s stable and resting and wanting people to respect his time during this difficult period.
      “Everyone at Stefy Bull Promotions are praying for a full recovery and wish him good health. We will keep you all updated.”
      However, Bull has since confirmed that Coghill has been forced to retire.

      The trainer has set up a fundraising page in a bid to financially support Coghill while he continues to recover.
      A statement on the page read: “Thankfully after almost a week he’s been discharged and hopefully over the coming months he’ll make a full recovery.
      “Due to this injury sadly Connor has had to retire from professional boxing and now stuck with no form of income.
      “He’s been told he can’t do anything for the next 6 months which obviously is going to be hard for him.
      “My goal is to try and support him as much as we can, our aim is to raise as much as we can to support Connor with something positive moving forward.
      “Boxing has been his life and all he’s known since being a young boy. With his fighting career now taken away I think and believe Connor can still make a life out of doing something he loves (boxing).
      “We have a vision of sourcing a gym in his home town big enough to start his own amateur boxing club and supporting him to also gain his professional licences so he can train boxers to become champions just like himself.
      “Connor is well liked and well supported in Hull and I believe he can still achieve things doing something he loves.”
      The GoFundMe page has since raised over £5,200 of the £20,000 target. More

      Ring Magazine top 10 heavyweight boxers revealed but does Tyson Fury fall and is there space for Francis Ngannou?

      THE Ring Magazine have updated their heavyweight rankings in the wake of Tyson Fury’s controversial win over Francis Ngannou. Fury left Saudi Arabia with a disputed points decision and his undefeated record intact.

      It also meant an undisputed title decider against Oleksandr Usyk is remains on but faces being moved from December to February.
      As Usyk, 36, is the Ring Magazine’s champion when he fights Fury, 35, the prestigious title will be on the line.
      Following Ngannou’s stunning performance, the WBC are said to be considering ranking him in the top ten.
      But, the 37-year-old does not make it into the Ring’s ratings.

      Former WBC champion Deontay Wilder, 38, is the second ranked contender with Joshua, 34, one place behind.
      Those standings could change if the pair manage to get a deal over the line to fight each other.
      Zhilei Zhang, 40, is fourth following his April win over eighth-placed Joe Joyce, 37, who also lost their September rematch.
      Joseph Parker, 31, is up to fifth following his win on Fury’s undercard.

      “It was a tough fight to win so he needs to go home and take a couple of weeks off. And then you’ve only got six weeks to train.
      “If the fight against Ngannou had ended early, 23 December would have been a very reliable date.
      “But when Tyson said he was still ready to fight Usyk, I said: ‘You’re not.’”

      Heavy favourite Fury, 35, was dropped and left stunned during the ten-rounder but controversially walked away with a points win over Ngannou, 37.
      Despite the excitement of the bout, it failed as a PPV blockbuster, according to professional wrestling and MMA reporter Dave Meltzer.
      Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio: “I will have the exact numbers tomorrow, but they were terrible.
      “Way below an AEW (All Elite Wrestling) PPV. Possibly 10k for TV orders. I will have the streaming tomorrow.

      “It was nothing close to Canelo or Diaz-Paul buys.”
      For context, Jake Paul claimed his loss to Tommy Fury sold over 800,000 PPVs.
      And 450,000 were believed to be the number for his win over Nate Diaz in August.
      Canelo beat Jermell Charlo in his last bout in September with up to 700,000 PPVs reportedly sold.

      Despite Meltzer’s report, Turki Alalshikh – who staged and financed the fight – insisted it was a PPV success.
      He said on The MMA Hour: “It will be one of the biggest pay-per-views ever.
      “I just have the number of DAZN, and DAZN doesn’t cover all the world, doesn’t cover in this fight especially in America and the UK, Australia, the Middle East and Africa.
      “DAZN is more than 200,000 subscribers, just DAZN, more than 200,000 subscribers.
      “I think, and I hope, we will be the most watched pay-per-view fight ever.”

      McGregor responded: “Tomorrow, if he’s here tonight! We’re fighting him on the same card. We’re on the same card in March.”
      The Irishman’s embrace with Chisora came on the night Tyson Fury, 35, controversially beat ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, 37 on points.
      McGregor, 35, has boxed only once before, losing to American great Floyd Mayweather, 46, in ten rounds.
