Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk new fight date to be confirmed ‘next week’ after Francis Ngannou bout delays unification

OLEKSANDR USYK’S promoter said the undisputed title fight with Tyson Fury will be confirmed “next week”.The pair of heavyweight champions have signed for the division’s first ever four-belt unification bout.

But it was initially scheduled for December 23 in Saudi Arabia, just eight weeks after Fury shared the ring with Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou went on to astonishingly drop the WBC champion and was unfortunate to walk away with a controversial draw.
Fury, 35, was left black and blue following the crossover clash and despite facing off with Usyk, 36, straight after, the title bout has been delayed as a result.
Ukrainian promoter Alex Krassyuk spoke out to give an update on the revised date which is due to be revealed as early as next week.

He told Boxing News: “He’s absolutely ready to go and he knows how to deal with Tyson. That’s why I feel confident, that’s why I feel relaxed about this fight.
“The only thing that I’m really concerned about is to make this fight happen.
“In the contract, it was December 23, but it’s a matter of common sense and common reason.
“If a fighter isn’t ready to go, you cannot make him. We would rather stay flexible, stay relaxed.

“We have settled already on the new date and next week, we’re going to announce it, hopefully, of course.”
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren hinted the new date will be in February as he defended the postponement.
He said to SecondsOut: “He’s not going to be ready on the 23rd. It’s not that he’s too hurt.
“Listen, he’s been in a camp for 12 weeks leading up to the fight. He’s a professional boxer at the highest level.
“He fought a guy who was an unknown quantity who actually turned out to be a real good competitor.
“More importantly he’s had a child born in that period of time, a new son, has spent no time with him, and had it been what the so-called opinion was, that it would be over in one or two rounds, the 23rd I think would’ve happened but it didn’t.
“It was a harder than usual night for him and he needs to go and let his body rest up from that camp.
“He needs to let his body recuperate and get back into his camp. So the fight gets postponed for two months. It’s not a big deal.”

He went on to face Paul’s arch rival KSI next and also walked away with a victory on the scorecards.
Paul was ringside to watch the bout in Manchester and later reached out to congratulate Fury.
Fury told the Daily Mail: “He messaged me the other day and said, ‘Congratulations brother, you know, I could tell there’s something wrong with your hand.’ All this sort of stuff, being extra nice.
“Trying to get that fight on. At the end of the day, it’s one of them, I think the fight is inevitable.

“He knows that I’m his biggest draw and for me now sitting at the top I’ve done things that he hasn’t.
“Him and KSI have been talking about fighting for years, I’ve literally came and inside 12 months beat the pair of them, on their own show.
“So I don’t know, it is what it is. It’s my choice now, no matter what I’m the head of the crossover thing now.
“It’s alright me saying it because I’ve beat the two best men in it. So whoever I want to fight next it’s up to me. I can pick and choose these guys.”

KSI, 30, has since appealed his loss to Fury, 24, which he labelled a “robbery” and announced he is taking time away from boxing.
Paul, 26, on the other hand returns on Friday, December 15 against a pro boxer with a “winning record”, his Most Valuable Promotions banner claimed.
But the American has opened the door to a rematch with Fury next year having bounced back with victory over ex-UFC star Nate Diaz, 38, in August.

However, the 37-year-old ex-UFC title holder departed Saudi Arabia disappointed as Fury scored a controversial points win – although he did not leave empty-handed as he picked up £8million for the bout, the biggest cheque of his fighting career.
The road to his showdown with Fury began when Ngannou left the UFC once his deal expired in January and he was stripped of the heavyweight championship.
The Cameroon grappler then signed for the Professional Fighters League – with both he and UFC president White trading several barbed remarks about each other since.
White had previously stated that Ngannou would not return to his promotion in the future, saying: “It’s over, that’s over. He’ll never be in the UFC again.

“I never say never, but I’ll give you a never on that one. We tried.”
He recently appeared on Donald Trump Jr.’s Triggered podcast and, even though he still seemingly does not want Ngannou back, he did praise the achievements of his old star for his performance inside the ring.
He said: “The fact that he went 10 rounds with Tyson Fury is crazy.
“He just went 10 rounds with Tyson Fury, Conor [McGregor] made it nine or 10 with Floyd, Anthony Pettis just beat Roy Jones Jr. – I know Roy is friggin’ 60-years-old or whatever, but I don’t know what the hell is going on. It’s crazy.

“I didn’t see the fight, but the fact that he went 10 rounds is unbelievable.”
When pressed on whether any other UFC talents would be making the crossover into boxing, White added: “Listen, these guys, at some point, everybody is going to move on.
“Everybody has to do what’s right for them and make money for their families, so whatever they’ve got to do, they’ve got to do.” More

Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, has now confirmed that the new date for the heavyweight clash will be in February 2024.
He also claimed that the full date will be announced next week.
Krassyuk has insisted that the Ukrainian fighter is “ready to go” and that they will remain “flexible” in order to make sure the bout happens.

“We would rather stay flexible, stay relaxed.
“We have settled already on the new date [in February] and next week, we’re going to announce it; hopefully, of course.”
Krassyuk also claimed that Fury was deserving of his win against Ngannou, but he does think that Uysk believed that the Brit was “not serious” in the fight.
He added: “When you treat your opponent with disrespect when you overlook your opponent, sometimes s*** happens.
“That was an unlucky night for our guy.
“From a boxing point of view, Tyson Fury won the fight. The fight is scored by the rounds.
“So, according to my card, he was a couple of rounds ahead, and that’s normal.
“He lost a couple of rounds. One round, he definitely lost for having a knockdown, but in general, he won.
“The emotional impression was an absolute underdog, an MMA fighter with zero chance, suddenly fires up the world.
“So now Tyson Fury is in the position of being frustrated about what the world has about him.
“The only man who doesn’t trust Tyson Fury is Oleksandr Usyk because he still thinks Tyson Fury was playing a game [in his fight with Ngannou].

The 24-year-old Nontshinga went into the showdown as a huge 1/8 favourite with bookies in what many considered to be a routine defence on Saturday.
But the previously 12-0 South African’s plans came crashing down in the second round as he was caught straight on the chin.
The champion instantly collapsed and fell through the ropes before lying unconscious on his back on the canvas.

Curiel has now secured his place amongst boxing’s other great upsets.

His countryman Andy Ruiz produced a shock in 2019 when he became heavyweight world champion by downing Anthony Joshua.
Although 42/1 outsider Buster Douglas’ famous victory over Mike Tyson in 1990 is still widely-considered the biggest upset ever in the sport.
Curiel’s win came prior to Joe Cordina’s successful IBF super featherweight title defence against America’s Edward Vazquez in the main event.
After a hard-fought battle, Cordina had his hand raised after getting the majority decision to stretch his record to 17-0.
He said: “It wasn’t my best performance, but it still got the job done.
“He didn’t hurt me at any point. I beat two champions back-to-back, come on man, you need to give me my flowers.” More

As of November 2023, Joshua doesn’t appear to be in a romantic relationship.
Fans have continued to be curious over the star’s dating life throughout his career, despite the boxer keeping his private life out of the spotlight.
In 2022 AJ’s supporters were sent into a frenzy when he made an appearance at a UFC show in London wearing what looked like a wedding ring.
It was later revealed, however, that the piece of jewellery was actually a £300 Oura Ring – a hi-tech fitness tracker.

    Who has Anthony Joshua dated?
AJ has been linked to a number of famous women since embarking on his sporting career, including supermodels Cara Delevingne and Bella Hadid.
In October 2023 the boxer dismissed rumours of any A-list flings that have hit the headlines, saying: “I haven’t actually been with any of those girls, by the way”.
He then admitted that he been dating since being in the public eye, but nobody famous.
He said: “I’ve had girlfriends, but you could be in the local supermarket or in the local petrol station when we meet”.
One former girlfriend who does play a significant part in AJ’s life is Nicole Osbourne, the mother of his son Joseph Joshua, known as JJ.
Anthony, who lives with his mum, social worker Yeta, and Nicole first met when they were teenagers and welcomed JJ together on October 6, 2015.
It was reported at the time that Joshua had bought a £500,000 flat in Finchley, North London for his son and ex-girlfriend.
Although Anthony and Nicole are not in a relationship, the star has showered the mother of his son with praise.
Speaking to Louis Theroux in the documentary maker’s BBC Two series, Anthony said: “She’s an amazing woman, you know.
“We got together in 2005, we were about 15 or 16 years old.
“I have so much respect for her”.
Joshua regularly posts adorable pictures of himself and his son on his Instagram account, much to the delight of his social media followers.
In 2018 the boxer told GQ magazine that he wouldn’t want JJ to follow in his footsteps and step into the ring.
He explained: “It’s too hard…It’s a dangerous sport.
“I want my son to be the best man that he can be, but I don’t want him to be compared to me.
“You’re not going to be a boxing star without going through heaps of pain”.

What has Anthony Joshua said about dating?
Joshua himself once said he doesn’t have a lot of time for girlfriends, and couldn’t see himself settling down until his boxing career is over.
He told the Evening Standard in 2017:”If people can ride with me for the next 10 to 12 years I would really appreciate it, but if they can’t foresee the future I’d rather they jump off the boat because I can’t stop for no one right now.
“I was speaking to my coach, who worked with Carl Froch who had a 12-year career.
“One day it does finish and now he has all the time in the world to think about business, family.”
He then reiterated this sentiment in 2020, telling The Sun: “I think you can date and still be a successful sportsman but it’s hard to find a balance and I would have to compromise — which I’ve not felt able to do.”
Despite these admissions about dating, Joshua has found himself linked to plenty of lovely ladies over the years. More
