Terence Crawford STRIPPED of world title just months after becoming historic undisputed champ in shock twist

TERENCE CRAWFORD has been stripped of his IBF title and is no longer the undisputed champion. The 36-year-old ‘Bud’ earned that accolade when he beat Errol Spence Jr via a ninth round TKO back in July.

‘Bud’ has now lost one of his belts without even fighting due to a rematch clauseCredit: AP
That stretched his unbeaten record to 40-0 and secured him all four welterweight belts.
However, his inability to defend the IBF strap against mandatory challenger Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis due to his rematch clause with Spence Jr has led to the organisation taking away his IBF crown.
And it has resulted in Ennis being elevated from interim title holder to full champion.
An IBF spokesperson told BoxingScene.com: “On August 25, the IBF sent a letter to TBC Promotions directing Terence Crawford to begin negotiations with interim champion Jaron Ennis. Negotiations were to be concluded by September 24.
    READ MORE ON BOXING
“On September 22, the IBF received an email from Harrison Whitman representing Crawford indicating that the agreement for the Spence vs. Crawford bout contains an immediate rematch provision which Errol Spence has exercised.
“As such, Terrence Crawford is unable to engage in negotiations with Jaron Ennis.”
The contract Crawford and Spence Jr allowed the loser of that showdown to activate a rematch clause.
But sanctioning bodies do not consider such rematch regulations as a reason to avoid mandatory defences – with the IBF’s rule 3.B prohibiting it.

They confirmed: “No contract for a Championship contest shall contain any clause or any provision, whatsoever, guaranteeing or in any way assuring or promising either contestant a return Championship contest where such clause or provision interferes with the mandatory defence of a title.
“Based on the forgoing, the IBF has withdrawn recognition of Terence Crawford as the IBF welterweight world champion.”
Ennis claimed the interim IBF belt with a unanimous decision victory over Karen Chukhadzhian on January 7.
He was then permitted to challenge for the interim IBF title, which he defended by knocking out Roiman Villa in the ninth round on July 9.
That bout came with the official ruling from the IBF that he would next challenge the winner of the Crawford and Spence bout.
No official comment has yet been made by Crawford, while no date has been set for his rematch with Spence Jr.

Dana White-backed Callum Walsh survives huge knockdown to remain unbeaten in front of UFC boss and WWE icon Triple H

CALLUM WALSH continued his rise up the ranks with a controversial victory in the shadows of Madison Square Garden. The undefeated Irishman – who is trained by boxing royalty Freddie Roach – returned to action at MSG’s famous Theater on Thursday night.

Standing between the surging super-welterweight and a perfect 9-0 record was New York local Ismael Villarreal.
The Bronx bruiser was, on paper, the toughest opponent of Walsh’s career.
And the American ended up putting the 22-year-old through the gauntlet on his way to suffering a controversial decision defeat, which came courtesy of harsh 96-93, 97-92, 97-92 scorecards.
After barely passing the toughest test of his career, Walsh said: “I’m very happy.

“I’m 22 years old and I’m fighting real guys.
“That guy was definitely a real fighter. So yeah, definitely happy with that; real happy.”
Despite fighting on enemy territory, Cork clubber Walsh came out to a deafening rendition of the world-known chant of the travelling Irish.
“Ole, Ole, Ole” rang throughout the arena before the super-prospect made his way to the ring.

And a clearly frustrated Villarreal, who had plenty of his loved ones in the crowd, looked to silence the hostile crowd early with a stiff and piston-like jab.
Slick southpaw Walsh, however, did a good job of cutting off the ring early and putting the American on the back foot.
Walsh looked to land to the body early doors and had success with rasping hooks.
Villarreal soon got the respect of Walsh with a beautiful overhand right counter before the halfway point of the round.
Another right soon rattled the dome of Walsh, who responded with a good straight left.

Walsh started the second like a bat out of hell and sent the sweat flying off Villarreal’s glistening forehead with a straight left which drew a big reaction from the crowd.
Walsh invested heavily in the lead uppercut soon after but Villarreal was wise to them.
One, however, found its way through the guard and briefly wobbled the local lad, who was forced to cover up and block an ensuing flurry.
Walsh looked to work behind his jab early in the third as he tried to pen Villarreal into the corner.
The Irishman landed a good lead hook in tight a minute into the stanza but failed to follow up with anything of note.
Villarreal’s corner erupted when their man landed two hard shots and started stalking a retreating and tiring visitor.
And he almost had him on his backside seconds before the end of the round courtesy of a swift three-piece combo.
Villarreal thought he’d scored a big knockdown early in the fourth but the ref judged him to have pushed down his man.
Walsh looked tired midway through the round but came back with a rip-roaring combo – which included a nasty uppercut – that put Villarreal on wobbly legs.
But instead of rushing in for the kill, the southpaw opted to pick his shots before being hurt by a low below seconds before the bell.

Villarreal headhunted for most of the fifth, abandoning the feints and footwork which served him well in the third.
Walsh blocked most of the telegraphed shots which came his way and actually egged on his foe to throw more.
A clash of heads briefly paused the action after the start of the sixth but Walsh shook off the cobwebs and quickly went back to work.
Two successive three-punch combos in a row snapped back the head of Villarreal, who made sure to respond with one of his own after being cracked.
Walsh then struggled to land his straight left on the feint and taunt-heavy Villarreal, who went hell for leather after hearing the 10-second clacker.
He got the better of the two ensuing exchanges and went back to his corner full of confidence for the seventh.
The Irish in attendance were worried for their man in the eighth when he went into retreat mode and stopped working behind the jab.
But the shot of the round came from the fatigued prospect, who opened up a cut above the brow of Villarreal with a brilliant right hook.
A clearly tired Walsh clinched multiple times after the restart, much to the frustration of Villarreal’s team.
Walsh planted a beauty of a straight left on the dome of Villarreal in the final minute of the stanza, although the American took it like a champ.

Neither man showed any great sense of urgency early in the ninth, despite it seemingly being a razor-close fight.
Walsh edged himself ahead with a beauty of a straight left that appeared to stagger Villarreal.
However, it did the exact opposite, stirring his foe on and prompting him to hunt for hard shots to the body.
A stiff one-two briefly set Villarreal back in his tracks but he quickly composed himself and went again.
As they were in the early embers of the ninth, both men were patient and opted not to rush in recklessly in the final round.
Walsh, however, found himself in trouble after being knocked down by a series of hooks with two minutes of the round remaining
He quickly bounced back to his feet but, surprisingly, went on the retreat.
Walsh was on course to finish the round strong until he had the sweat smacked off his forehead by a huge overhand right.
Fan in attendance were left stunned by the wide scorecards, with many expecting a split decision verdict to be announced.

Jake Paul ‘can’t fight for toffee’ but Conor McGregor would still get ‘absolutely slaughtered’ by him, says Carl Froch

CARL FROCH says Conor McGregor would get “absolutely slaughtered” by Jake Paul. That is despite YouTuber-turned boxer Paul not being able to “fight for toffee.”

The ex-boxing champion has traded his fair share of words with the American in recent years but he still backs him to beat McGregor.
Froch told CasinoAlpha: “I no longer know what (McGregor’s) motivation is for fighting; he’s had a couple bad pastings, he’s not short of a few quid.
“In fairness, he’s earned every penny and he was a phenomenal fighter and you have to admire him for that.
“But I’m not sure why he wants the Michael Chandler fight, or what his motivation is.

“He’s better off hanging around the Misfits and YouTubers and getting involved in a celebrity fight because he’s a massive name.
“But forget about a crossover fight with Jake Paul, he’d get absolutely slaughtered.”
McGregor, 35, lost his one and boxing bout to American legend Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
Froch, 46, commentated on the crossover clash and gave a scathing verdict on the Irishman.

It has kept the bad blood brewing between the two to this day.
Similarly, Froch has not been impressed by Paul’s foray into boxing and insisted he could beat the 26-year-old after ten years in retirement.
He said: “He’s a s***house, he can’t fight for toffee, and he would not come anywhere near me, even though I’m ten years retired.
“That’s all you need to know about Jake Paul, he called me out, but he won’t take on a guy who has been retired for ten years.
“I could come back, not even put myself through a training camp, and it would be such an easy night’s work.
“He’s a performing clown, hopefully he will go away because boxing fans are not taking him seriously.
“The reason this isn’t on pay per view is because people are no longer prepared to pay for this rubbish.”

    Who is Tony Bellew?
Tony Bellew is a professional boxer from Liverpool who is currently the WBC world cruiserweight champion.
Bellew enjoyed a decorated amateur career winning the ABA heavyweight title three times, finishing with a record of 40 wins and seven defeats before turning professional in 2007.
The 34-year-old became Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion in 2010, but failed in two attempts to win the world title at that weight against Nathan Cleverley and Adonis Stevenson.
He finally became a world champion in 2016 after stepping up to his more natural division of cruiserweight, when he stopped Congolese opponent Ilunga Makabu.
In 2018, the pro officially announced his retirement from the sport after a defeat against Usyk.
Taking his gloves off for good, Bellew held an impressive record of 30 wins from 34 professional bouts – he only lost on three occasions and drew once.
He ultimately said his body couldn’t endure the physical strains of boxing anymore.
Since walking away from the ring for the final time, Bellew has worked  as an an analyst for The Zone and is a regular contributor for the likes of TalkSPORT and others commentators.
And, now he is one of the latest campmates to be revealed in the I’m A Celeb 2023 cast.
This won’t be Tony’s first reality TV venture either – last year he endured Channel 4’s Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Who is Tony Bellew’s wife Rachael?

TONY Bellew has just been announced in the 2023 I’m A Celeb line up – but who will he be leaving behind at home? The former English boxing champion will be waving goodbye to wife Rachael Roberts as he flies to Australia and lands in the jungle next week.
The pair grew up together but their romantic relationship was sparked when Tony was just 18Credit: Instagram
He shares three boys with his childhood sweetheart Rachael, called Corey, Cobey and Carter.
Before one of his legendary fights in the ring, Tony taunted his opponent by saying: “I’m more frightened of my missus than you. I wouldn’t f***ing dare cross her. I wouldn’t mess with her.
“I will say one thing, I fear no man. I don’t give a f*** about any man on this planet. I would fight any man. I tell you what though, I don’t go home to her with a penny short.
“She’s my toughest fight. I said this [fight] would be my last one… That’s a real fight, persuading her if I can carry on.”

    Rejected three times
Tony and Rachael grew up together in nearby Merseyside neighbourhoods and met when they were just nine-years-old.
Their romance was sparked years later when 18-year-old Tony met Rachael on a night out.
He was working as a nightclub bouncer at the time and became completely besotted.
Despite Rachael rejecting him three times, she eventually realised he was the one for her.
The couple grew up near each other, and became a couple when they were still teenagersCredit: Getty – Contributor
An insider close to the childhood sweethearts said: “Their first date was a trip to the cinema and a milkshake before it.
“Rachael told him that if he wasn’t the perfect gentleman to her on the date, he’d blow his only chance.
“So right from the off it was clear to him that she was a strong woman who didn’t take any nonsense.”
Since then, Rachael’s strength hasn’t wavered, and today her fierce protection over her husband has become notorious.

But Tony’s route to the top wasn’t easy: in the early days of their relationship he was a small-time amateur, making just £100 from each fight.
He had to work a string of other low-paid jobs to make ends meet, and worked as a labourer and a lifeguard in addition to doing shifts in security, retail, and even in a pillow factory.

Rachael stuck by Tony throughout, and eventually his persistence paid off.
After winning close to 50 bouts in the early Noughties, it was in 2007 that he finally turned pro.
Tony’s rise to fame continued, and he even became friends with his idol, fellow Liverpudlian and his Everton hero, Wayne Rooney.

‘He has all he needs in Rach’
When he finally tied the knot with Rachael in 2018, it was at a private, low-key ceremony in Cheshire’s Peckforton Castle.
His wife and kids – Corey, Cobey and Carter – are his sole focus.
Our source explained: “Because he’s been with her since they were teenagers, Rachael’s extremely confident and assured about her place in the relationship and there’s no doubt she’s the one who wears the trousers.
“In truth, he may be the breadwinner, but she’s the one who runs the ship behind closed doors and that’s the way he likes it.
“Tony has a very simple philosophy about his private life – he doesn’t need all the trappings of fame because he has everything he needs in Rach.”
Rachael was the one who told Tony that it was time to stop fightingCredit: Instagram
“When Tony isn’t training in the gym, he prioritises his time with Rachael and the children,” our source added. “He loves to cook for her and their favourite thing is just being at home together watching TV and chilling.
“They’re each other’s best friends so it’s not like they always need to be doing something really big or lavish to enjoy themselves.”
Tony is a hands-on dad who loves “goofing around” with his kids, while Rachael will “keep them all in line”.

While they enjoy family holidays and have a nice home in Merseyside near their families, Rachael is said to be strict on not letting the children become spoilt.
Our insider revealed: “They teach the kids that just because daddy has made good money, they aren’t going to have a different life to other children.”

A movie star who shuns the fame game
In 2014, Tony got a phone call asking him to star as “Pretty” Ricky Conlan in Rocky spin-off Creed, alongside Sylvester Stallone.
While the 2015 film massively benefited Tony financially, he’s since said he couldn’t wait to return home after each day on set.
And his movie experience made him more adamant that he “hated fame”.
“I am honoured when kids come up to me and tell my they idolise me, or whatever,” he said after the film. “But I don’t want that because I am nobody’s idol. I am just a normal bloke who likes having a fight. I am nothing special. I do not see myself that way.”
Our source added: “Even though Rachael and Tony are constantly asked to meet different celebrities, that kind of life just isn’t for them.
“Once a month, they’ll have friends around for dinner and it’s always the same group. Rachael and Tony have no desire to start social climbing or anything like that.”
