Anthony Joshua to be ringside for Fury vs Usyk blockbuster as he reveals his ‘creme de la creme’ next fight plan

ANTHONY JOSHUA is targeting becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia on March 9.Joshua’s planned £100million superfight with Deontay Wilder has been KO’d following the American’s shock Saturday defeat to New Zealand’s Joseph Parker.

But AJ is now eyeing a “creme de la creme” crunch with Croatian Filip Hrgovic back in Riyadh for the IBF belt.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk meet for the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO heavyweight crown in Saudi on February 17.
However, the winner will be ordered to face the IBF’s mandatory challenger Hrgovic and both boxers are ready to relinquish that belt in favour of a rematch.
That would then set up a Joshua-Hrgovic IBF title fight on the same March 9 date that the Brit was supposed to face Wilder.

And Joshua declared: “If it’s a fight for the heavyweight championship of the world or fight a big-name opponent, I will always choose the former because that’s the creme de la creme.
“It’s the most prestigious title you can win.
“I will try to come out again for Fury and Usyk, I tend not to go to fights, but that’s an iconic one.
“Once that fight is out of the way, then the heavyweight division opens up again and we can start leaning toward becoming champions.”

Joshua, 34, proved he is back to his best with a five-round demolition of Swede Otto Wallin in Riyadh — just minutes after Wilder’s shock loss on the same bill.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn admitted he wanted “to vomit” after Wilder’s defeat wrecked the mega two-fight deal which had just been signed.
But asked if a hat-trick of heavyweight reigns is his priority over big-money fights, Joshua added: “Every fight leads toward the final destination.
“I have bigger ambitions, I don’t celebrate when I win these fights, I celebrate when I win world championships.”
“I have bigger ambitions, I don’t celebrate when I win these fights, I celebrate when I win world championships.”Anthony Joshua
The ruthless IBF have stripped champs for long-waiting mandatory challengers before.
Fury lost his red belt just nine days after he dethroned Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, because he signed up for a doomed rematch.
The same fate befell welterweight don Terence Crawford two months after he dominated Errol Spence for all four belts last August.
Hrgovic has been waiting 18 months for a crack at the IBF crown, so the super-strict New Jersey-based organisation could take action as soon as Fury and Usyk finish.

And the  Saudis have scheduled March 9 to host a Joshua-Hrgovic showdown.
Hearn added: “AJ wants to become a three-time world heavyweight champion. There is a lot to play out with the IBF, but maybe that belt does come vacant.” More

My grandad is Muhammad Ali – now I’m following his path as boxer but I’ve turned down huge payday out of respect for him

NICO ALI WALSH has such respect for his iconic grandfather that no amount of money could convince him into a cash-grab fight. The middleweight prospect has quite possibly the greatest ever boxing shoes to fill as the grandson to Muhammad Ali.

Nico with his iconic grandfatherCredit: @nicoaliwalsh
So far, Nico has forged his own path to success in the ring with a 9-1 record but his iconic surname will always be able to make him millions.
Although the American is uninterested in profiting from a crossover-style spectacle bout if it means his grandfather’s legacy takes a hit.
Nico told SunSport: “I have so much respect for this legacy, it’s bigger than me. I can’t be selfish with it because a lot of people care for it.
“Just going to Africa and seeing so many people chant, “Ali” just for the love and respect they have for my grandfather was crazy.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
“So, this legacy is bigger than me. I can’t be greedy and be like, ‘I’m going to do a money-grab and start fighting YouTubers.’
“That’s insane, I didn’t get into boxing for the money. I think the money will come in time and I love what I’m doing right now, taking the long road.
“I want to be champ one day, I want to get to that undisputed level and you can’t do that fighting YouTubers.”
Nico, 23, has continued to be linked with a clash against social media star-turned prizefighter Jake Paul, 26.

And despite distancing himself from it, Nico praised Paul for his first-round knockout win over boxer Andre August.
He said: “I’ve got to say, Jake Paul, he keeps getting popped up but I give him a ton of respect.
“His last fight he fought a legitimate boxer, a no-name boxer and I heard he did well.
“That’s what it’s going to take to get to contender status, to get to champ status, to get to a title fight.
“It’s going to take fighting someone that nobody knows about, not making any money from it.
“Just building your resume and then just fighting for millions one day.”
Paul claimed an offer to fight Nico was respectfully declined in the past.
Giving his side of the story, Nico said: “I don’t remember if there was ever a legitimate offer but we’ve made it very clear that we don’t want something like that, respectfully.

Nico Ali Walsh has distanced himself from fighting Jake PaulCredit: Getty
“We respectfully decline anything like that and it is out of respect for my grandfather, it is out of respect for the legacy that I’m trying to build, it’s out of respect for the career I’m trying to build for myself.
“Once you’re categorised in that category it is so hard to break out of that cast.”
Tommy Fury, 24, insisted he was going to beat Paul and then return on his path to world championship boxing.
But after edging past Paul, the ex-Love Islander went straight into facing YouTube sensation KSI, 30, winning controversially on points.
The foray into the world of influencer boxing has left Fury laughing all the way to the bank – but his title ambitions are now seen as the joke.
And Nico said: “I know Tommy, love Tommy, he’s an awesome dude, the Furys are awesome but it’s options you’ve got to weigh.
“There’s two options, on one hand you’ve got life-changing money and on the other hand you’ve got a boxing legacy.

“So you can’t fault anybody for picking one or the other but in my case I will always side with legacy over money.”
Nico recently returned with victory in Guinea, beating Noel Lafargue by split-decision over six rounds.
The bout – documented in an OnlyFans series called Rise & Grind – gave the boxing prodigy the chance to bounce back from his first ever loss.
He said: “It was super relieving. It’s crazy because nowadays in boxing people value your record more than your ability almost.
“And that kinda sucks because I’m such an old school guy, I’m only 23-years-old but I’m an old head.
“And I respected these guys coming up; my grandfather, George Foreman, Joe Frazier all those old school guys, Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard.
“These guys didn’t care about records they cared about putting on awesome fights and nowadays it’s just not like that.
“So when I did get that loss, me personally I took it as a learning experience but for the world of boxing, for the viewing of boxing I thought, ‘This could really do some damage.’
“Because people value that record so much but coming back off that it makes your comeback even more when there’s a minor setback.”

What Wilder’s shock defeat means for Joshua, Fury, Usyk and Dubois after heavyweight division is stunned

DEONTAY WILDER’S shock loss to Joseph Parker has shaken boxing’s heavyweight division to the core.Parker defeated Wilder via unanimous decision in Saudi Arabia following a stunning performance.
Deontay Wilder lost to Joseph Parker and is unlikely to face Anthony Joshua next
This fight was supposed to set up a highly-anticipated clash between the Bronze Bomber and Anthony Joshua.
That would have been the case as Joshua beat Otto Wallin via TKO in the fifth round.
AJ was successful in his unofficial semi-final bout, however the American fell short and seems to have put that dream match on hold.
But what does that also mean for other heavyweights, such as Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois? SunSport reveal what’s next for each boxing star:
    Read More on Boxing
    DEONTAY WILDER
Deontay Wilder was supposed to face Anthony Joshua next – provided he beat Joseph Parker first.
The winner would have gone on to fight the victor between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.
However, Wilder came up short against Parker and those plans are now uncertain, despite rumours of a £100million two-fight contract with Joshua being agreed.
Therefore, the Bronze Bomber will have to find another way to bounce back – that is of course if he doesn’t retire like he suggested following his loss to the New Zealand star.
    Most read in Boxing
The 38-year-old may have to forget about facing AJ and instead learn from him as he found a way to recover after his shock loss to Andy Ruiz Jr and two miserable defeats to Usyk.
Perhaps a rematch against Parker is in order as that could be the only way Wilder could return to the title picture.
    ANTHONY JOSHUA
Anthony Joshua is unlikely to lock horns with Deontay Wilder any time soon.
That is despite Joshua’s stunning and dominant victory over Otto Wallin in Saudi Arabia.
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn previously suggested Filip Hrgovic is next for the British star.
However, the 34-year-old also wants to face the winner of the upcoming superfight between Tyson Fury and Oleskandr Usyk.
But that pair are likely to have a rematch clause in their contract – which could mean the IBF title being vacated.
That could offer Joshua, who is ranked as No1 by the IBF, fight that organisation’s mandatory, Filip Hrgovic.
And a chance to reclaim his old world title could prove far too tasty to turn down.
Joshua is now FIRMLY back in the world title picture

    TYSON FURY
Obviously Tyson Fury is totally focused on his upcoming undisputed megamatch against Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury and Usyk lock horns on February 17 in Saudi Arabia for every title available.
And the winner could go on to face Anthony Joshua next, provided a rematch isn’t in the offing.
Fury has previously called out for a Battle of Britain against AJ – but that will all depend on how his historic scrap against Usyk plays out.
Tyson Fury is set for an undisputed heavyweight clash against Oleksandr Usyk
    OLEKSANDR USYK
As mentioned earlier, a rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury could be set up after their fight.
Usyk is also undefeated and Fury has all the tools to hand the Ukrainian superstar his first ever loss.
A trilogy fight can’t be ruled out either, while Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua have called both heavyweights out.
Usyk could have a rematch with Fury or even a trilogy bout
    DANIEL DUBOIS
Daniel Dubois is determined to face either Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk next.
Dubois has also called Anthony Joshua out, but his fellow Brit is likely to compete for the IBF title next.
    Read more on The Sun
That paves the way for a fight against either Fury or Usyk next, provided the two undefeated stars don’t have a rematch.
However, the 26-year-old may have to wait his turn and instead have a rematch with Joe Joyce or face Joseph Parker next.
