Anthony Joshua credits X-rated blast from Tyson Fury’s old trainer for getting him back to his vicious best

ANTHONY JOSHUA snapped up Tyson Fury’s old trainer to return him to his vicious best. And he hopes doing a better job than Fury did against Francis Ngannou in October will finally secure their fantasy all-English heavyweight showdown.

When the Watford ace, 34, took a Riyadh rumble with Otto Wallin on six weeks’ notice, he moved in with Fury’s former coach Ben Davison.
Davison, 27, brought out the vintage best in AJ, who smashed the Swede’s nose and cheekbone to smithereens in five rounds during last month’s Saudi Arabia fight.
The reward — after Deontay Wilder was beaten by Joseph Parker on that undercard to KO their shootout — is a March 8 battle with ex-UFC heavyweight champ Ngannou, 37.
That is just three weeks after WBC king Fury and WBA, IBF and WBO boss Oleksandr Usyk decide an undisputed ruler on February 17.

And new-look Joshua will have his eyes on the four-belt clash knowing another spectacular win of his own could convince the new Saudi shot-callers to finally make him and Fury happen.
AJ said: “The reason I was able to gel with Ben is because he doesn’t try to change your style.
“He just kind of looks at your attributes and then adds to what you are good at.
“I got to a stage where I was trying to change my style — a bit of back-foot-boxing, boxing behind the jab, stick-and-move, not being explosive, controlling the pace, and stuff like that.

“But Ben was like, ‘That’s not your body type. You’re a f***ing big unit, you’re explosive, go and f***ing knock people out’.
“Basically, work to your body type. So, we got along. He gets it.
“I am a power puncher. I break eye sockets. I broke Wallin’s nose and eye socket, Robert Helenius just got sparked out.
“I ruined Dillian Whyte’s career with an uppercut, the list goes on. Ngannou has to deal with me and that will make it a good fight.
“I will have a one-track mind, it will just be bam-bam-bam-bang.
“A good performance is a boring fight as the better fighter is totally dominant. I don’t want a slugfest, I don’t want to swap punches and think, ‘What the f*** am I supposed to do?’ I don’t want to take ten rounds to land a knockout shot.”
Davison rocketed to prominence as he became Fury’s saviour when everyone else had given up on him.
After a doping rap in 2016, a mental health breakdown that drove him into temporary retirement and ballooning to 28 stone, it was Davison who moved into Fury’s family home and coaxed him back into the fight business.

AJ added: “There are two fights people want me to have, Wilder and Fury, and they haven’t happened yet.
“People want to see it in the UK — me and Fury. As long as we get the fight, that’s the main thing.” More

That includes 19-year-old prospect Moses Itauma, 7-0 Irishman Thomas Carty and potentially world champ Jai Opetaia to come.
It comes after a Team Usyk insider blasted Fury’s warm-weather vacation after the historic unification was announced.

The two champions will fight to unify the division on February 17 in Saudi Arabia in what will be one of the biggest bouts in modern boxing.
Meanwhile Hatton is no stranger to big bouts himself having headlined Las Vegas with Floyd Mayweather back in his heyday.
But the 45-year-old retired boxing star is now perhaps facing one of his most difficult challenges yet after joining the cast of ITV’s hit show Dancing On Ice.
Just before ‘The Hitman’ and dance partner Robin Johnston took to the ice, he received an unexpected boost when Fury made a shock cameo by appearing on the big screen with a good luck message.

In the clip to Hatton, who has worked as a cornerman in the past for the WBC title holder, Fury said: “Hi Rick. Tyson Fury here.
“I’m over in training camp with the undisputed, taking this time out to wish you a massive, massive good luck with Dancing On Ice.
“All the best guys. Do the best. Knock em out Rick!”
Former world champion Johnny Nelson recently admitted fears that Fury’s fight with Usyk could be DELAYED.

The bout comes just four months after Fury, 35, was dropped by ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou, 37, in his controversial points victory.
The crossover clash was meant to be a routine rout but it turned out to almost be the mother of all banana skins and Fury’s dad John spoke out to say his son’s training camp is a “circus” as he revealed fears that it would carry on over to the Usyk unification.
That then had ex-cruiserweight king Nelson believing the historic title fight could face a further postponement.
But Fury arrived in Saudi six weeks before the showdown to start his Middle East camp after starting training in Morecambe.
The Gypsy King spent Christmas with wife Paris and his seven kids, but swerved a New Year’s celebration at home to get preparations underway.
And he certainly looked to be reaping the benefits after his appearance on ITV earlier showed him looking in great shape as his camp continues.

Watch KO king Artur Beterbiev’s brutal stoppage of Callum Smith as he continues incredible flawless record

He became the first man to drop Smith after the Brit hit the canvas around a minute into the seventh round.
Smith tried to use his towering height and long levers but bearded Beterbiev – in impossibly long black shorts – walked through all of his long-range efforts and broke him down with a spiteful jab and violent close-range blows.
Smith’s eye sockets and cheekbones were bloodied and bruised after only three rounds, even though he enjoyed some success in the second.
By the start of round five Smith looked like a broken man, as his two-weight dream slipped away. And by the end of the stanza he looked like the victim of GBH, just hoping for a full recovery.

It thankfully came to an end in round seven, when a whipped right hook frazzled his senses and the follow-up assault drove him down to his knees.
Smith heroically beat the count but he was swiftly hammered back into the Canadian canvas and the referee and his corner stopped the onslaught.
Smith, 33, struggled to beat the referee’s count before his trainer Buddy McGirt stepped into the ring to call a halt to the fight.
Beterbiev – who had raised levels of testosterone and human growth hormone in his system in a December test, but not enough to fail or cancel the fight – has now defended his titles for eight consecutive fights, knocking out the likes of Anthony Yarde and Joe Smith Jr along the way.

Now he is eyeing a showdown with Dmitry Bivol to add the WBA light heavyweight belt to his collection.
When asked if he wants to face Bivol face next, Beterbiev said: “Yes, of course, I need another fourth belt.”
His promoter Bob Arum confirmed he will hold talks with Bivol’s camp, though said it would likely take place three months after the end Ramadan, so possibly next summer.
Smith, who was the mandatory challenger for Beterbiev, suffered the second loss of his career having been beaten by Canelo Alvarez in December 2020.
But he was dominated throughout with all three judges scoring in Beterbiev’s favour after six rounds.
Smith revealed he will consider his future and did not rule out the possibility of retiring.
He said: “I’m gonna spend some time with my family and see what the future holds. I don’t know, I’ve had a good career, been a world champion, been top of the mountain. I’ve given a lot to boxing over the years.
“I need to sit down and assess what goals I still want to achieve. I wanted to be a two-division world champion, but I’ve come up short tonight. It’s hard to accept that I’m not the best in the world.
“I’ll have to sit and assess what the future holds.” More
