Usyk reveals shock career plans for after Tyson Fury rematch that’s good news for Anthony Joshua as date is confirmed

OLEKSANDR USYK plans to make a shock move after his rematch with Tyson Fury. The Ukrainian became the undisputed ruler of the heavyweights last month with a split-decision victory over the Gypsy King in Saudi Arabia.Oleksandr Usyk bested Tyson Fury to become undisputed heavyweight championCredit: APAnd posed with his new WBC title afterwardsCredit: https://x.com/Gerashchenko_en/status/1792116449420480692/photo/1In a shock move, Usyk could move back down to cruiserweight – where he was also undisputed championCredit: GettyBut he’ll have to best the Brit behemoth again in their eagerly-anticipated rematch later this year.Boxing fans reckon Usyk, 37, could hang up his gloves with a second successive win over Fury. But the slick southpaw has revealed plans to move back DOWN to the cruiserweight division, which he left in 2019 to pursue his dream of winning heavyweight gold.He told Three Knockdown Rule podcast: “I think maybe after the rematch, I am going to go down in weight to cruiserweight.READ MORE IN BOXING”I want more [fights at] cruiserweight.”Usyk became the king of the cruiserweights in the summer of 2018 with a decision win over Murat Gassiev, which saw him claim the WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles. And becoming a two-time ruler of the division is something that interests the fan favourite. He said: “Maybe I can be undisputed for a second time in the cruiserweight division, it’s my plan.”Most read in BoxingBEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERSUsyk seems to have finally found the sweet spot for his body at heavyweight. But the former pound-for-pound king doesn’t like having to wolf down large portions of food to maintain his frame.Tyson Fury must BANISH dad John from ringside to beat Usyk in rematch, says Sun Boxing reporterHe said: “When I start to prepare for my training camp [as a heavyweight], I have to eat all the time.”For me it’s hard, I don’t like it.”Usyk was a whisker away from stopping Fury in the ninth round of last month’s Riyadh rumble. He’ll look to go one better when they renew their rivalry in the Kingdom on December 21.Should Usyk drop down the weights again, it would undoubtedly leave a hole in the heavyweight division that Anthony Joshua could step into. He’s hoping to fight Fury after the much-anticipated rematch between him and Usyk. For all the love for resurgent AJ… these two are head, shoulders and fists ahead of everyone else
OLEKSANDR USYK is the deserved undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, writes Wally Downes Jr
A great biggun doesn’t always beat a great littleun, not when David has the weight of a besieged nation on his shoulders and is able to swing each compatriot into every punch.
Usyk did what Usyk does, he moved magnificently, he counter punched and he outworked his taller and heavier opponent.
He somehow manages to use every physical disadvantage to his favour.
But what the hell is Fury doing getting up in round nine?
Why is a father-of-eight with £300million in the bank, three best-selling books and a Netflix series going to the well like?
Britain is not fighting back Putin’s army, Morecambe is not occupied.
So when the 35-year-old’s senses are scrambled, when the canvas is calling him, when he is so desperate not to be felled he is willing to bounce around all the ropes like a drunk, when he eventually has to collapse into a corner, why doesn’t he just stay down?
He has earned the right to surrender as well as his millions.
The sheer courage and guts and bloody mindedness it takes to climb off that deck, with a broken nose and a crumbling ego is not comprehensible to us mortals.
Fury said he felt he won the fight but was too dignified to call robbery or corruption, no doubt his dad will taint that decency by the time you’ve read this.
    The rematch will be superb.
Because for all the love we have for a resurgent Anthony Joshua – who was ringside for that iconic event – these two polar opposite men are head, shoulders, fists, hearts and brains ahead of everyone else.
There is the top two, then there is a void and then there is the rest.

Boxing champ Savannah Marshall to have Tyson Fury’s uncle and UFC champ in her corner ahead of huge MMA debut

SAVANNAH MARSHALL will have boxing and MMA royalty when she takes to the cage for the first time. The boxing world champion is signed to the Professional Fighters League and prepares to make her cage debut on Saturday against Mirela Vargas.Savannah Marshall ahead of her MMA debutIn her corner will be boxing coach Peter Fury – the uncle to British legend Tyson. But leading the way will be Andy Aspinall and his son Tom, who is the current UFC interim heavyweight champion. Marshall, 33, told SunSport: “I’ve been training with Andy Aspinall, I’ve known Andy for about seven years. “So obviously I’ve got Peter who’s on the boxing side and Andy who’s BJJ, boxing and a bit of everything really. Most read in MMA“Tom’s going to come up and be in the corner too, which will be nice.” Fury is a veteran trainer on the British boxing scene and famously led nephew Tyson to iconic victory over Wladimir Klitschko. But Marshall revealed it was the seasoned boxing coach who convinced her into the MMA switch. She said: “To be honest, I feel like he kinda half pushed me into it. Most read in BoxingCASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS”He was really keen on it. And fair play to Peter because he’s really let Andy take the reins. “He understands that it’s a totally different sport and what works for me in the boxing ring won’t work for me in the cage.My brothers are signed to Man Utd and one scored for England… but I’m a star in MMA training with UFC legends“He’s been really open minded about it to be honest.” Marshall follows boxing rival Claressa Shields over to the PFL, where the American is 2-1 in the cage. Shields, 29, won their undisputed boxing fight in 2022 and the two are lined up for a sensational rematch in MMA. Marshall added: “My focus is getting the rematch back with Claressa but I obviously know there’s a lot of cogs that need turning and it’s whether or not she wants it or not. “If it doesn’t materialise I would consider going into the league. The only thing is, the weight I fight at isn’t part of the league. “I’d have to drop down and it’s a weight I’ve never touched on before, so that is a big question mark for me.” Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall are lined up with an MMA rematchCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun More
