Premier League announce new date for last ever Everton vs Liverpool clash at Goodison Park but risk huge clash

THE PREMIER LEAGUE have announced the new date for the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.Everton’s clash with Liverpool was originally scheduled to be played on December 7, 2024. Everton clash with Liverpool at Goodison Park has been handed a new dateCredit: GettyBut the clash was postponed due to poor weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh. However, the new date of the clash will be on February 12.TNT Sports will have the rights to the fixture, which will be played at 7.30pm.Yet there is a risk the historic match could be postponed AGAIN.That is because it is subject to Liverpool not playing in the Champions League knockout phase play-off round.Arne Slot’s Reds currently top the Champions League league table with six wins from six and sit six points above the play-off round spots. However, they are yet to mathematically secure a spot in the top eight and confirm qualification to the last-16 due to the possibility of a major goal difference swing. Therefore, this means the clash with Everton at Goodison may be forced to be rearranged for a second time, though this risk should only be theoretical given Liverpool’s imperious form in Europe so far. Most read in FootballMore to follow.THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..The Sun is your go to destination for the best football, boxing and MMA news, real-life stories, jaw-dropping pictures and must-see video.Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TheSunFootball and follow us from our main Twitter account at @TheSunFootball. Why Dominic Solanke could hold key to success for Dream Team bosses this month

GAMEWEEK 19 is only half complete with a full round of Premier League fixtures to fulfil this week. But already thoughts turn to how Dream Team managers should approach Gameweeks 20 and 21, when the league phases of the Champions League and Europa League will reach a dramatic conclusion.Tottenham are pushing for a guaranteed place in the Europa League round of 16Credit: GettyThe resumption of the European competitions means gaffers should once again ensure they are suitably represented on the continental stage.Cole Palmer (£6.1m), Bryan Mbeumo (£4.8m) and Alexander Isak (£6m) are just three popular names among those with just two fixtures to fulfil across the next two Gameweeks.Meanwhile, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham will play four times in the same time period. The latter are a particularly interesting prospect given the relatively favourable nature of their January fixtures once they’ve attended to the small matter of Wednesday night’s North London derby at the Emirates.Ange Postecoglou’s side will play Everton and Leicester in the league, two sides in the bottom five of the table currently, alongside Europa League meetings with Hoffenheim and Elfsborg. With all due respect to the German and Swedish teams, Spurs will be heavy favourites against both – Hoffenheim are 15th in the Bundesliga right now.Kulusevski owners will be hopeful of further points this monthCredit: RexPostecoglou has rotated his squad in Europe but he can’t afford to take anything for granted this month if he’s to progress to the last 16 of the competition without having to endure the stress of a play-off.Spurs are currently ninth in the table with only the top eight guaranteed a place in the round of 16.Most read in FootballWith all this mind, might Dominic Solanke (£4.6m) hold the key to success for Dream Team bosses in the next fortnight or so?The England international has 186 points to his name this season, making him the leading asset among his team-mates at the time of writing. And yet he’s just the fifth-most selected Spurs player with Brennan Johnson (£3.7m), Dejan Kulusevski (£4.3m), James Maddison (£4.1m) and Pedro Porro (£4.2m) all boasting superior ownership percentages.Solanke looks a strong option for the remainder of JanuaryCredit: EPAMOST POPULAR SPURS PLAYERS IN DREAM TEAM RIGHT NOW (% OWNERSHIP):21.4% – Brennan Johnson17.6% – Dejan Kulusevski14.8% – James Maddison14.4% – Pedro Porro14.1% – Dominic SolankeIt’s not that Solanke is being totally overlooked; an ownership of 14.1% makes him the fourth-most popular striker in the game. But it’s notable that Isak (30.6%) is more than twice as popular given the upcoming fixture deficit between the two.Newcastle’s main man is in fantastic form and his chances of banking healthy returns against Bournemoth and Southampton are strong but will he outscore Solanke, who may be deployed against Everton, Hoffenheim, Leicester and Elfsborg in the same time frame? It’s worth noting here that for all his success in recent weeks, Isak is just three points ahead of Solanke overall.19 goal involvements and countingCredit: GettyTottenham’s No19 has scored 11 goals and provided eight assists this season which works out at a goal involvement every 113.6 minutes.READ MORE SUN STORIESSpurs have their weaknesses, hence why they’re 12th in the Premier League at present, but they pack a punch in attack and only league-leaders Liverpool have scored more goals in the top flight this term. There’s plenty to be said for backing Solanke in combination with either Kulusevski, Johnson or Maddison in search of bumper points this month.Score PredictorPlay Score Predictor with Dream Team this season!FREE to play£250 weekly prizePredict scores of five selected Premier League fixtures and earn points for accuracyMost points wins weekly cash prizePLAY NOW More

I was Man City prospect who fell into booze and drugs, was stabbed twice and jailed… now I’m earning coaching badges

FORMER Manchester City prospect Daniel Warrender has opened up about being jailed and stabbed twice after falling into booze and drugs.Manchester-born Warrender has since turned his life around and is working hard to earn a Uefa B coaching badge.Former Man City prospect Daniel Warrender has bravely opened up how he turned his life aroundWarrender came through the ranks at Man City before turning professional in 2005The later stages of Warrender’s non-league career was derailed by prisonWarrender bravely opened up about overcoming past struggles on the ‘I Had Trials Once Podcast’.The former Man City youth star was first stabbed outside a city centre nightclub following a Manchester derby match in 2010.Warrender’s wound was reportedly minor, but doctors informed him that the shock of the incident had brought on a heart problem. And the ex-defender unfortunately went on to land himself in a world of trouble with the law a year later in 2011.READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWSWarrender was sentenced to 15 months in prison in 2013 after punching a man in a nightclub bust-up.According to court reports at the time, he left the victim scarred after he fell over on to a broken pint glass. The shards tore a 3.5cm wound down the man’s right cheek, and made several other cuts on his face, nose and arm, a court heard. The judge noted that Warrender was usually a “decent, hard working man” but had drunk “a skin-full” of alcohol before the attack in Stockport. Most read in FootballJustice Bernard Lever told him that his single blow had “absolutely tragic consequences” for both men, according to the Manchester Evening News. And that it did, as Warrender, who was playing football for non-league side Ramsbottom United at the time, found himself behind bars.Pep Guardiola reveals Kyle Walker has asked to LEAVE Man City with England defender set or £400K-A-WEEK Saudi transferWarrender said: “I’ve been at Manchester City, decent little prospect whatever.”And then within two years I was in prison for various violent offences and drugs and drink, whatever, you name it, I’ve done it. “I was stabbed on two different occasions and hospitalised a total of nine times.”But that was normal life to me. But now I’m on the Uefa B course. I’ve got two beautiful kids. One of them is a superstar at City.”Warrender’s son George is currently playing for Man City’s Under-11 youth side.Fans have dubbed the youngster a “mini Phil Foden” for his skill – but also because of his uncanny resemblance to the England superstar. Warrender was part of the squad who beat Manchester United’s youth in the Senior Cup in 2005Warrender’s son is coming through the ranks at his dad’s former sideAnd tearful Warrender added: “I’ve got my own coaching pitch, which I own outright…sorry I’m going again. I told you I cry all the time.”But now, honestly, when kids give me a thank you and that, I’m in the house with my missus crying. But I love it.”The now 38-year-old was brutally attacked for the second time on New Year’s Eve in 2017. His brother David Warrender, a convicted drug dealer, was said to be in control of the bar.But it was substantially worse on this occasion as Warrender was stabbed several times and suffered a punctured lung and kidney.Warrender was part of the squad who beat Manchester United’s youth in the Manchester Senior Cup in 2005.He was shipped out on loan to Blackpool a few months later, before he joined the League One side permanently in 2006.But his time at The Tangerines was cut short when he moved down into the non-league game with Rossendale United.READ MORE SUN STORIESHe then spent time in the USA with San Francisco Seals before returning to the UK with FC United of Manchester. FA Cup may never look the same again as major change to tournament format is considered

WEMBLEY bosses will consider scrapping extra-time in next season’s FA Cup.But there is NO chance of replays coming back.FA bosses are considering a big change to extra time in next year’s FA CupCredit: PATamworth held Spurs to a 0-0 draw on Sunday, which in previous years would have seen them earn a replayCredit: PATamworth were denied the prospect of a money-spinning trip to N17 when they were forced into an extra half-hour after holding Spurs to a goalless draw in 90 minutes. In every other season, those third-round heroics would have guaranteed a replay. Those matches have previously seen minnows scoop more than half a million in gate receipts and TV cash.Prem clubs’ concerns over fixture congestion, exacerbated by the new initial stage of the Champions League and Europa League spreading into the last two weeks of January, saw the FA force through the decision to end all replays in April.READ MORE ON FOOTBALLHowever, there is a growing feeling within the FA that finishing games after 90 minutes and going straight to a shoot-out will be better – especially for the lower-tier teams.Tamworth visibly tired after Ange Postecoglou was able to send on Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski for extra time on Sunday, with Spurs eventually scoring three in the additional 30 minutes.Manchester United also had to play for an extra half hour with 10 men against Arsenal, although they did then win the shoot-out to progress to round four.United will have played 16 matches between the start of December and the end of this month, with the heavy workload likely to bring further injuries. Most read in FootballFOOTBALL FREE BETS AND SIGN UP DEALSThose European dates – which mean there would have been no space for Arsenal, Spurs or United to fit in a replay – will ensure that ties will all be settled on the day from now on.But FA chiefs are ready to discuss following the EFL Cup approach, with ties in the Carabao Cup having gone to spot-kicks after 90 minutes six seasons ago.Tamworth vs Tottenham kick-off DELAYED as players get piggyback to tape up net after spotting hole in goalTamworth themselves beat League One Burton on penalties in the first round. But non-leaguers Harborough, Kettering and Oldham all lost to EFL sides in extra-time.Man Utd ratings vs Arsenal as Maguire and Co dig deep to win after Dalot’s moment of madnessMANCHESTER UNITED produced a heroic effort to squeeze past Arsenal and into the FA Cup’s fourth round on penalties. The Red Devils were forced to dig deep at the Emirates following Diogo Dalot’s 61st minute red card.On a freezing cold afternoon in North London, SunSport’s Kealan Hughes rates and slates each United performer…ALTAY BAYINDIR – 8Poor punch up in the air which allowed the ball to fall nicely for Gabriel to finish.Redeemed himself with a brilliant penalty save to keep the score level, before superbly denying Declan Rice twice.NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI – 7Was assured on and off the ball if unspectacular. Got his body on the line as the Gunners pushed for a winner.MATTHIJS DE LIGT – 8Solid in defence and kept the backline well organised. Produced the best tackle of the match on the goalline to deny Leandro Trossard a certain goal.HARRY MAGUIRE – 8Commanding in the air and made several key blocks but gave away the penalty which Arsenal missed to go in front.Got away with an earlier error as he failed to clear – the ball landed at Kai Havertz’s feet but he somehow skewed wide with his effort.LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 7Had to be on high alert to deal with the movement of Arsenal forwards but it was a task he managed well.DIOGO DALOT – 3Booked for a mistimed lunge on Lewis-Skelly. He followed that up with another silly, late foul on Merino with the ball about to go out of play for his second yellow. Stupid red card.MANUEL UGARTE – 7A firefighter all across the pitch for his side, although spent most of the match in his own half given Arsenal’s dominance. Was booked for one foul too many just before the hour mark and was lucky to escape a red card as he went head-to-head with Havertz after the penalty incident.KOBBIE MAINOO – 6Lively in the middle and kept a close eye on Jorginho. Looked sharp on the ball and showed some clever touches.Should have done better to head clear before Gabriel’s equaliser.ALEJANDRO GARNACHO – 7Always an outlet on the counter which was much needed for the Red Devils.Made the most of a Gabriel error to burst in on goal and pass across to Fernandes to score.BRUNO FERNANDES – 7Was booked for throwing a trademark tantrum after claiming he was fouled on the edge of the box when lining up a shot.Showed his class with a brilliant first-time finish which he bent around a defender into the far corner.RASMUS HOJLUND – 3Failed to provide the focal point that United badly needed, which meant almost every pass forward was dealt with by the Arsenal centre-halves. Was fortunate there was no VAR to take a look at his apparent elbow on William Saliba, which left the Arsenal star bloodied.SUBSTITUTESAmad (for Garnacho, 80mins) – 6Lively on the counter too but just lacking a bit of quality – though was outnumbered every time he got the ball.Joshua Zirkzee (for Hojlund, 80mins) – 6Some very clever touches when he came on and provided a presence up front at a time United badly needed it.Toby Collyer (for Mainoo, 80mins) – 5Showed plenty of energy but was missing quality in some areas.Tyrell Malacia (for Ugarte, extra-time) – 6Stuck to his task well.Leno Yoro (for Maguire, 104) – 6Did his job well during the closing stages of the match. Converted his penalty in the shoot-out with aplomb. Now the FA plans to review the situation at the end of the season. And the “lottery” factor of a shoot-out after 90 minutes is a major argument in favour of shortening games from next term.
