Who is Fabio Wardley and what’s his boxing record?

FABIO Wardley has gone from working in a recruitment office and competing in white collar boxing to being on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s mega-money showdown with Frances Ngannou. Here we take a look at the Ipswichian’s life, meteoric rise and boxing career.
Fabio Wardley defeated Michael Polite Coffie to claim the WBA Continental Heavyweight TitleCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
    Who is Fabio Wardley?
Fabio Wardley, born on December 18, 1994, is a professional boxer from Ipswich, England.
He has been the British Heavyweight Champion since beating Nathan Gorman in 2022.
But just eight years ago Wardley was working as a recruitment consultant and playing football at the weekends, before doing four unlicensed fights for fun.
At the age of 22 he decided a desk job wasn’t for him and pursued a dramatic career change.
    READ MORE ON BOXING
On Saturday, October 28 he defends his British heavyweight title against David Adeleye on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou in Riyadh, where Mike Tyson will be in the Cameroon MMA fighter’s corner.
The Suffolk puncher, who credits being mentored by Dillian Whyte for his incredible career turnaround, is now not far off a world title shot.
“It’s a funny old world,” he grinned.
“It has been a wild ride and I’m really proud of it and happy to be able to ride it to the full extent.
    Most read in Boxing
“I started on small-hall shows selling tickets, little obscure shows in the middle of nowhere.
“I used to look at big shows and thing to myself ‘maybe I’ll have one big fight… I’ll have one big fight and end my career there’.
“I thought I might fight for the Southern Area or the English or maybe the British but it would be just one big fight, the last dance of my career.
“But now I’ve done it 10 times over. I just kept my head down and kept grinding and by the time I looked up I realised I’m in the thick of it.
“I always say I feel like I’ve gone from one side of the TV to the other.
“I’ve gone from being someone sat there watching it to the one in the main event. It’s a funny old world.”
Only a couple of years ago Wardley’s best boxing credentials were sparring sessions with Whyte and Oleksandr Usyk, but if he beats Adeleye he’ll be near the front of the queue for a world title shot if a December undisputed decider between Fury and Usyk leads to the belts being fragmented.
On the subject, Fabio said: “The division will be wide open in a couple of years.
“All the big names are at the back end of their careers.
“They all have maybe 1-2 years left, a few big fights each and then they will say ‘I’m good’.
“That leaves the door open for me and a few others in the division to move forward. Especially in British boxing, I’m at the forefront and I’m the next one.
“It’s a great position for me to be in. I can have a few more learning fights, tick off awesome milestones and by the time those doors open I’ll be fully fledged and ready to go.
“The big boys are still there doing their thing but I’m not that many steps behind.
“It’s an interesting thought and a funny place to be – in four or five fights fighting for a world title. It’s quite a surreal moment to stop and have a look at.”
What is Fabio Wardley’s boxing record?
At present Fabio’s immaculate record stands at 16 wins, 0 loses, and 0 draws, meaning he is currently undefeated.
During those 16 wins Wardley has stopped 15 of his opponents, so his current knock-out ratio is 93.75%.
In total he’s boxed 42 rounds, meaning his professional fights last 2.6 rounds on average.
    How heavy is Fabio Wardley?
Fabio has been putting on weight over his boxing career, generally getting heavier at each weigh-in before his professional fights.
At his last fight against Michael Polite Coffie, Wardley topped the scales at 242.6 pounds.
He competes as a professional boxer in the heavyweight division.
What belts does Fabio Wardley have?
    Fabio currently holds two belts.
Wardley has been the British Heavyweight Champion since beating Nathan Gorman in 2022.

In 2023 he added the WBA Continental Heavyweight Title to his collection by defeating Michael Polite Coffie.

Tommy Fury breaks silence after KSI fight appeal to mock YouTube star and calls out Jake Paul for rematch

TOMMY FURY has mocked KSI for appealing their controversial fight and called out Jake Paul to a rematch. In February Fury beat Paul by split-decision in Saudi Arabia to end two years of bitter feuding.

And it set him up with another blockbuster bout with a YouTuber-turned boxer, this time against KSI.
Their Battle of Britain ended contentiously after Fury walked away with a points victory in a razor thin fight.
He was initially awarded a majority decision but it was overturned to a unanimous victory due to a scorecard being read out wrong.
KSI has since hired a lawyer to appeal the loss in total – something Fury laughed off when breaking his silence.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
He told Boxing King Media: “A load of s***. Yeah, it’s a load of s***. He lost fair and square it was what it was.
“They already changed it to a unanimous in my favour so, good appeal mate.
“But listen, I come to fight. He was getting instructed by his corner to hold me. So it is what it is, one guy came to fight and the other guy didn’t.
“So that’s why it turned out like it did. I was there and ready to put it all on the line.

“But of course, we knew he was never gonna stand and trade with me so that’s probably the right tactics by him.
KSI, 30, spoke out to say he is taking time away from boxing following his first loss.
Paul, 26, was at the fight in Manchester and teased a rematch with Fury, 24, who appears on board.
He said: “I am the only fight for Jake Paul. Me and Jake Paul are the dance partners and he knows that himself.
“Me and him will always make a good fight, we’ll always make a big fight so whenever he’s done with what he’s doing, I’m sure me and him will meet again one day.”

Another far-fetched pipe dream would have been taking big-time boxing to Ipswich Town’s Portman Road.
But now the Tractor Boys are ripping up the Championship, local legend Ed Sheeran is a superstar and Wardley is on the rise, it’s a tangible target.
Wardley said: “We were flirting with the idea of a stadium show before this but to do those things you have to have the right fight at the right time.

Joshua, 34, recently went on a four-day darkness retreat in a bid to “build character”.
The £2,000 exercise saw the Brit cut himself off from the outside world – with “no phone. No TV. No radio. No audiobooks” and no human contact.

Joshua has been linked with a mega-bout against fellow former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.
Appearing at the Formula 1 last weekend, AJ said: “The next window will be in March-April, so that’s probably when the undisputed fight will happen.
“What we are being told is they want to make it a mega card and they like the sound of Joshua v Wilder on the same night.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn blamed Wilder for a previous deal for the pair to fight falling through.
The Bronze Bomber subsequently said on Instagram: “Another thing I want to address is a fight that everyone is looking forward to and hopefully happens.
“I’m doing everything in my power to make it happen – I’m referring to the Anthony Joshua fight.
“So Anthony – you’re hearing it from my mouth – I’m here, I’m ready, I’m ready to go.
“I heard some things your promoter said that my last fight only lasted a short period of time and I ain’t fought in a year and he don’t know if I want to fight or not.
“I’m letting you know right now, right here, I’m ready to fight man.”
Joshua plans to return in December against an unnamed opponent, before potentially facing Wilder in the spring.

The British boxer has yet to taste defeat as a professional, with his record standing at 33-0-1.
That is despite his thrilling trilogy with Deontay Wilder and 2022 rematch with Dillian Whyte.

Despite his net worth, though, Fury has revealed is always looking for a deal as he prepares to return to the ring on Saturday.

“I don’t know why because I can spend the money I’ve got really, its just me. It’s just the way I am. I’m always looking for a deal.
He continued: “I’d rather get five chocolate bars for £1.20 than a single one. Even though I’ll eat all five and I don’t want to because its what’s been bred in me. Once a poor man, always a poor man.
“You never leave it, ever. I love Asda because its always got good deals on. Shout out Asda. A can of Cokes might be £10.50 but then they’re on sale for four quid, but I’d never buy them if they were £10.50.” More
