Fuming Ogbonna blasts ‘It’s almost as if Prem chiefs were waiting for someone to die’ over coronavirus response

ANGELO OGBONNA has slammed football chiefs for not suspending the  season sooner, blasting: “It’s almost as if they were waiting for someone to DIE.”

The Premier League and EFL have stopped until at least April 3 — but only after Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi announced they had tested positive for coronavirus.

And West Ham’s  Italian defender Ogbonna said he was stunned the Government allowed football to go ahead.

In  Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, he said: “I am relieved everything has now been suspended.

“It was almost as if they wanted to ignore such a  serious problem.

“This problem is ingrained in the English mentality. They still don’t realise the danger.”

Arsenal hosted Olympiakos  on February 27 after their president tested positive.

They then played West Ham before Arteta’s results.

Ogbonna, 31, added: “It’s  completely unacceptable that our Arsenal game went ahead.

“It’s almost as if they were waiting for someone to die before taking action.

“I haven’t been tested or checked over in any way.

“That is another testament to an attitude that is, at the very least, superficial.”
