With no football scheduled until at least April 3, the BBC announced they would be pulling Match of the Day from its regular slot on Saturday night.

But if footy fans thought that was bad, it only got worse when the broadcaster revealed they would be replacing the beloved show for comedy series Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Fans were quick to find humour in the situation, kmoorman writing: “It truly is the End of Days.”

TSSVLUFC added: “You didn’t wash your hands and now we’ve got Mrs Browns boys replacing MOTD.

“I hope you’re all happy with yourselves.”

TalkSPORT presenter Goergie Bingham added: “Jesus. Mrs Browns Boys instead of MOTD. That’s a punishment and a half.”

AY said: “Yep. The single worst thing to come out of this whole debacle. Anything but Mrs Browns Boys.”

With his Saturday evening suddenly free for the first time in a while, even MOTD presenter Gary Lineker got in on the act.

He wrote: “What’s the running order?”

As well as the Premier League being suspended, Uefa also announced that all Champions League and Europa League matches scheduled next week have been postponed.

Euro 2020 is also on the brink and could be delayed for a year.

Footy chiefs in the UK will make a decision on April 3 about whether to resume the season.
