And while yet to make his first-team bow, the 16-year-old has been a regular for Dortmund’s under-17 side this term, making 20 appearances to date.

The Blues have been chasing the German youth international to bolster their already flourishing academy.

But according to Bild, Manchester City now lead the way.

Chelsea and City have won three of the last four Under-18 Premier League titles between them.

The young Blues triumphed in 2016-17 and 2017-18, while City’s young guns reigned supreme in 2015-16.

Chelsea’s academy has produced players including Tammy Abraham, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori in recent seasons.

And they have also bolstered their current crop with the recent acquisition of Norwegian forward Bryan Fiabema from Tromso.

City’s most prominent graduate of late remains Phil Foden who, still at the delicate age of just 19, produced a man-of-the-match performance in Sunday’s League Cup final.

In addition to Foden, City fans have also had fleeting glimpses of fellow academy graduates Tommy Doyle, Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Eric Garcia and Adrian Bernabe this season.
