Barcelona closing in on free transfer move for 20-year-old Hugo Guillamon of Valencia’s reserves

BARCELONA are reportedly close to wrapping up the free transfer signing of Valencia reserves’ centre-half Hugo Guillamon.

The Spanish champs have been following the 20-year-old’s progress for some time, and he is expected to link up with them in the summer.

His contract with Valencia expires at the end of the season.

Guillamon was part of Spain’s U19 2019 European Championships winning team but has not yet become a regular at Le Mestalla.

The left-footed centre-back has played just one game for the senior side there, appearing off the bench in a 3-0 defeat at Real Sociedad.

But according to Sport.ES, Barca are keen for him to link up with their B team, where they anticipate him making swift progress into the first-team squad.

BRAITHWAITE MAKES DEBUT

The signing of Guillamon however probably won’t get the media attention as much as Barca’s latest addition.

The Catalan giants moved to sign Martin Braithwaite from Leganes after receiving special permission to buy a forward outside of the transfer window following the serious injury sustained by Ousmane Dembele.

LaLiga rules allow an emergency signing if the club can provide sufficient documentation to prove that their player will be missing for more than six months with injury.

Braithwaite, 28, quickly emerged as a shock target, with Barcelona stumping up his release clause and tying him down to a four-and-a-half year contract.

The move will come as a particular shock to Middlesbrough fans, who saw Barca’s new forward score just nine goals in 40 Championship games in an underwhelming spell on Teesside between 2017 and 2019.

He made his debut in the 5-0 win against Eibar at the weekend where he bagged an assist after coming off the bench.

Lionel Messi scored four times with Arthur netting the other.
