Man Utd transfer plans – with £274m to spend – will NOT be affected if club miss out on Champions League

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER claims the club will still splash huge amounts of cash this summer on the biggest stars with or without Champions League football.

Manchester United are plotting a squad rebuild at the end of the season and are expected to fork out around £274million on world class signings.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho is one of the names at the top of the shortlist with the Red Devils weighing up a £100m move.

SunSport revealed Old Trafford chiefs are also planning a £160m swoop to snap up Jack Grealish AND James Maddison.

Solskjaer is also in the market for a striker to provide competition for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

United are struggling to qualify for the Champions League football yet again as they currently sit in ninth spot, six points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Although that gap could be closed tonight when Solskjaer’s side travel to Stamford Bridge.

But even without competing in Europe’s elite competition, the Norwegian is still confident of luring his transfer targets to the club.

Solskjaer said: “The Champions League gives the club more resources, more money, that’s one thing.

“It’s a prestigious tournament to be in, of course.

“But doing as well as we can, and if we play well the rest of the season, and players that we might want are impressed by that, it might be easier to convince them to come here.

“But I don’t think one season – this season is the Europa League – if next season is with or without the Champions League, I wouldn’t say that’s the be all and end all for a player to sign for us.”

United could hand a debut to January loan signing Odion Ighalo tonight, who is in the squad to face the Blues.

Rashford, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay all remain absent.
