Lausanne, Switzerland, February 17, 2020 – Turkey’s 20-year-old sensation Ebrar Karakurt got the opportunity to shine over the weekend, as she helped her club of VakifBank Istanbul to widen the gap separating them from crosstown archrivals Eczacibasi VitrA in the Turkish League.
VakifBank swept bottom of the table Beylikduzu Voleybol Ihtisas 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-18) and as coach Giovanni Guidetti seized the opportunity to rest some of his key players, Karakurt got the chance to play a full game, scoring a match high of 15 points, including an impressive seven aces, as well as contributing solidly to VakifBank’s reception.
Karakurt, a gold medallist with Turkey in the 2017 FIVB U23 World Championship and a member of the senior national team since 2018, is now gearing up towards Turkey’s important obligations this year, including the 2020 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
She will surely be looking at replicating her performance of last year, when she was named Best Opposite of the 2019 VNL finals in China.
Karakurt’s performance on Saturday allowed VakifBank to widen their lead at the top of the table in the domestic lead, taking advantage of Eczacibasi’s dropping a point in their five-set win over Fenerbahce Istanbul.
