Leicester and Newcastle set for £15m transfer battle for Brentford winger Said Benrahma

BRENTFORD are preparing for a major summer fight to hang on to Leicester and Newcastle target Said Benrahma.

The Premier League duo are willing to pay £15million for the Algerian winger, who has helped the Bees to fifth in the Championship.

Other top clubs are also watching Benrahma, 24, who scored a hat-trick in Saturday’s 5-1 win at Hull.

Considered by many fans as the best player in the second tier, he has proved a huge bargain since arriving from Nice for just £1.5m in 2018.

Brentford will have to get promoted to have any chance of holding on to their star man.

Aston Villa appeared to be frontrunners for Benrahma early in the season.

BUZZING FOR PROMOTION

The Prem strugglers were reportedly willing to pay up to £20m last month after several attempts to sign him last summer.

Villa saw his ability at first hand last term, when he bagged 11 goals and 17 assists.

And with Villa going up while the Bees came 11th, Dean Smith’s chances of luring him seemingly soared.

Instead, Benrahma is hoping to win promotion with Brentford this time around – before his future is sorted out.

He missed out on selection for Algeria’s Africa Cup of Nations-winning campaign.

But his reputation has increased this campaign, with early-season reports from France suggesting he was keen on moving up to the Prem.
