Jose Mourinho reveals Harry Kane could return this season in major Euro 2020 boost for England

JOSE MOURINHO gave England a Euro 2020 boost by revealing Harry Kane COULD return this season.

The Spurs boss had feared his striker might be KO’d this term which would have made the Three Lions skipper a huge doubt for this summer’s finals.

Kane, recovering from hamstring surgery, may now feature in the final home game against Leicester on May 9.

Mourinho said: “I hope he will be able to. Is that the best case scenario at the moment? Yes I think so.”

Spurs wrap up their Prem campaign at Crystal Palace eight days later.

And it means Kane could have a valuable 180 minutes of competitive action under his belt before Gareth Southgate’s men kick off their Euros against Croatia at Wembley on June 14.

Kane ruptured a tendon in his hamstring in the 1-0 defeat at Southampton on New Year’s Day.

They host Saints in an FA Cup fourth-round replay tonight.

Asked when Kane could be back playing, Mourinho added: “Maybe Leicester.

“Maybe we will need that match for something. To be fourth, to be fifth, to be sixth.

“Maybe we need that match for something and maybe he can help us.”

Tottenham initially feared he would not return to training until at least April.

There’s no pressure, he keeps going, no setback. It’s just my feeling.

Mourinho on Kane’s recovery

Mourinho said: “It’s the first week of May.

“There is not a setback. Nothing has happened. Everything is OK.

“He’s having his treatment. There’s no pressure, he keeps going, no setback. It’s just my feeling.

“It’s better not to put any kind of expectations, any kind of pressure. Let it go and let’s see.”

The replay with Southampton has robbed both clubs of a winter break — not that Mourinho had planned to take his Spurs stars to sunnier climes.

He revealed: “No. We would have been training. No time off.

“Because I’ve been here for just ten weeks, I need to work, I need to prepare my team the best I can, so I wouldn’t give them the whole week.

“So in terms of holidays it doesn’t change much.”

But Mourinho, whose side do not play this weekend, slammed the winter break.

His team will play at Aston Villa on Sunday week, before hosting RB Leipzig in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on the Tuesday.

The Spurs chief added: “I don’t like the break especially because there is no attention to when you play Champions League.

“It would be much more normal for us to be playing this weekend.

“But no, you have a break but then you play against Aston Villa Sunday, not Saturday or Friday, but Sunday.

“So they gave you ten days of break, but then you play on the Sunday and the Tuesday. For me, the break doesn’t make any sense the way it is.”

Spurs will assess Dele Alli to see if can face the Saints after Raheem Sterling’s horror tackle on him on Sunday.
