Chelsea given huge boost as Christian Pulisic injury much better than first feared

CHRISTIAN PULISIC has handed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard a huge boost following an injury scare.

The American winger, 21, is now only set to miss a couple of weeks with a groin strain instead of up to a month as first feared.

Pulisic has not played for Chelsea since New Year’s Day when he missed several chances to grab a precious win away at Brighton.

He then suffered an injury to his adductor during training and has been out since – robbing Lampard of a key midfielder since.

Pulisic will still miss Saturday’s trip to Newcastle but could be fit in time to play in the FA Cup fourth round tie at Championship Hull.

He admits it has been a learning curve trying to cope with the relentless demand of English football – it is no surprise that in his debut season Pulisic picked up injury after the busy Christmas fixtures.

The £58million signing said: “I just think the wear it has on your body.

“I think the biggest thing I’ve learned is just making sure that you keep your body right, and you gotta really work on that because there’s so many games.

“There’s a lot of stuff involved. You’ve got to make sure that you’re healthy and ready to go all the time.

“It’s just going that extra mile for regeneration after games, doing the right things, eating right and just making sure that you’re ready to go.

“I didn’t expect to come here right away and have everything be perfect and come straight in and, you know, score ten goals in my first game.

“The beginning, it wasn’t always easy, and I wasn’t always in the line-up, but I just kept working.

“I put my head down, and I just kept telling myself, ‘My time will come’.

“When you do that, and you just keep working, it does. I was really happy with how things went.”
