According to I, the Blues will turn to Foxes star Chilwell, who is also being tracked by champions City.
The defender, who has become Gareth Southgate’s first-choice England left-back, is set to cost around £60million.
It is understood the 23-year-old is keen to wait and see if Etihad boss Pep Guardiola remains in Manchester until next season, with doubts over the Spaniard’s future.
Chilwell has been a pivotal part of Leicester’s campaign so far, as the Foxes sit second in the league.
His crossing ability and workrate down the flank had made him one of the league’s hottest prospects so far this term.
But Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers is adamant no one in his squad will be flogged in the January sales.
Rodgers declared: “There’ll be no one leaving in January. Categorically.
“I’m sure if we speak, they [the owners] will have the same message.
“It’s very clear – we want to keep this squad together. We want to ensure they stay around beyond January.”
It is reported by the I that Leicester have a strict policy of allowing only one key player to leave the club each year, a rule that helps keep stability in the squad.
