The 22-year-old linked up with Selfridges to launch the campaign – teaming up to help some of the city’s biggest homeless shelters – Barnabus, Centrepoint and Lifeshare.

It urged people to wrap festive boxes full of selected items, from hand sanitiser to thermal underwear, in order to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Rashford had already been proving his class on the pitch after taking his United tally to 16 for the season with a goal in the club’s 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday.

And the England international delighted fans with his contribution off it as well after revealing the success of his Christmas campaign.

He wrote on Instagram: “Very proud of what we achieved with #intheboxmanchester this year but also didn’t want to forget my roots at Christmas so really happy our family was able to ship donations to St Christopher’s Children’s Home in Saint Kitts and to see them arrive before the 25th.

“My Nana Cillian Henry lived in Haynes Smith village before she passed away and it means a lot to be able to do this in her memory.

“Hope everyone on the island has a great new year!”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was among the people quick to compliment Rashford’s effort, writing: “Just brilliant.”

One fan also commented: “Love this, great stuff”.

Another said: “You are the real hero, we love you Marcus.”

A third added: “Awsome Marcus proper manc.”

This is far from the first time Rashford has shown his charitable side, having previously worked with Unicef.

He also attended a gala with team-mates for the children’s charity back in 2017.

And he was hailed by fans for helping sort tickets for an American fan who had beaten cancer so that he could watch United for the first time.
