HARRY KANE became the latest victim of the infamous ‘armpit offside’ when VAR officials chalked off his goal past Brighton on Boxing Day.
A ball over the top from Harry Winks was latched onto by the England forward who rolled it calmly past Mat Ryan.
Fans at Tottenham Stadium celebrated confidently but replays quickly showed the tight nature of the offside call.
And once VAR laid down the lines to find whether Kane was technically offside, it was revealed his armpit had strayed past that of defender Shane Duffy.
The images also showed that the striker’s feet were in front of his opponents’ as they began to chase Winks’ pass.
Coming after 24 minutes of the first-half, the moment summed up a slow opening period for Spurs on Thursday.
And the frustration of Tottenham fans was evident online.
Spurs supporter Dilly tweeted: “God forbid that shoulder that had no effect on the play.”

Another, Luca, commented: “Here we go again…”
However others were clearly on the side of VAR.
Twitter user Josh wrote: “Was half a yard off.”
Finlay added: “Offside any day of the week.”
