Lausanne, Switzerland, December 11, 2019 – Based on voting by players and coaches, the FIVB World Tour Beach Volleyball Awards recognise the outstanding performers of the year. We now turn to the Best Female Blocker of 2018/2019.

Best Female Blocker of 2018/2019 – Sarah Pavan (CAN)

Six years after Sarah Pavan arrived on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour she became one half of the first Canadian team to win the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.

She and Melissa Humana-Paredes defeated USA’s April Ross and Alexandra Klineman 2-0 (23-21, 23-21) and key to that victory was the 33-year-old Pavan’s strength at the net.

At 196cm tall Pavan is one of the tallest players on the women’s circuit and she uses it to great effect to get up early and give her opponents as little space as possible to attack. Her long reach and strong left arm are also formidable weapons in the battle to dominate the front of the court.

Pavan started playing on the World Tour in 2013, moving from a career in volleyball in which she represented Canada. She reached the quarterfinals at Rio de Janeiro 2016 alongside Heather Bansley, and now as world champion has guaranteed a place for Canada at Tokyo 2020.
